That place looks fabulous.  Let us know what you thought.

I just had leftover matzoh ball soup from the Seder I attended last night.  It is delicious and can't beat the fact that it's so easy to heat and eat.  Now -- two matzoh balls later -- I feel like a nap.

I'm off to Veeraswamy tonight (it's the first time for me) so whatever I'll be eating, it's bound to be very good.

Abigail (2024)

Woof, this movie was dogshit. The outline has bones but the movie does not. The idea of a criminal organization using a vampire to dispose of loose ends was neat, and some of the vampire powers were unique. The way thralls are controlled was a short and fairly chilling moment, ruined by the occasional departure to humor that this movie should have avoided. They're never afraid to puncture a moment of building terror with a shitty one liner.

If you can see it for free, there are some interesting effects, but as a movie this is a solid non recommend.

I feel bad for the actress who plays Abigail, she's clearly working her ass off throughout the whole film, but no one could have saved that script.

Giancarlo Esposito is fully wasted, if you've seen the trailer you've seen 90% of his character. They can't all be prestige!

Despite re-routing several ships to other ports, there's still added costs that are hampering supply chains for vehicles, coal, tractors and all kinds of other goods.

Strangely, I couldn't find any updates in the NY Times about the recovery efforts or even the plans to open even a limited channel.  So I found a Baltimore station that says the temporary channel has limited width and draw, so 300 ft wide and 20 feet deep w/a vertical clearance of 135 feet.  But that eliminates the kind of container ship that killed the bridge in the first place.  They're working on a larger channel that they're trying to open by the end of April.

I guess there's 2 bodies left to find?  It's pretty sad that most of these workers were immigrants who were just trying to make a better life for their families.  They were filling potholes on the deck surface, I guess, when the collapse occurred.

The Harbor Tunnel doesn't allow containers of flammable gas, so people with RVs or industrial vehicles have to take a long way around to go north or south.

It's a major mess.  I'm curious about who will end up paying for this.  The shipping company that owns the Dali (no relationship to the surrealist painter) have filed a petition to limit their liability (they had 6 months to do this but managed to file it in 6 days).  If they're successful, all they'll have to pay for is the cost of the vessel & its freight, minus repair and salvage costs.  So, probably under $44 million.  That's ridiculous.  As far as the bridge goes, "oops! sorry about that..."

A guy goes into a doctor's office wearing nothing but a piece of cling film around his waist. The doctor says, "I can clearly see you're nuts."

I'm curious.  Why did you buy this instead of just regular ground beef?  I suspect you'd have a greater degree of control over the seasoning with the ground beef.  It probably takes more work.

I've been mixing my own chili powder and it turns out well.  I dug around online and found some recipes for it and since I had most of the ingredients already, I threw it together so I can put it in chili or guacamole.  I like that you can control the individual elements and dial down or up flavors that you want to emphasize.

Foil packed. Had quite a bit more of it tonight.

I stirred two six ounce packets into sloppy joe mix hoping it would blunt the seasoning. It didn't.
Also bought a can of liquid cheese thinking I was going to do chili cheese dogs. The cheese was HORRID, and I'll never buy pace nacho cheese sauce again.

The chili dogs turned out okay, but very spicy still.

The product is referred to as "Hereford beef crumble" but is sourced from Brazil. I'd say it's about on par with stagg chili. I don't see much stagg on the shelf lately.

I sadly had my opinion confirmed, another worker has been recovered from the bridge debris, and he was in fact in the work vehicle.
The progress on the bridge cleanup seems glacial, but they are lifting 40-ton chunks of the bridge at a time. They were saying that the crane they use for that is rated for 100 tons, but that in structural engineering terms, you never want to push the envelope on such things.

The current ARMY plan for the area is to clear a temporary channel that will allow single lane traffic to the port, which will be run at night, while recovery and refloating will be attempted during the day. I was going to say that the events seem scheduled out pretty far, but May is sneaking up on us alarmingly quickly.

Oddly enough, I think Schwarzeneggers obstinate position was preferable to modern California politics. He was elected to essentially pump the breaks on a distasteful vision of the future, and he did exactly that, to the benefit and detriment of California. He was absolutely a protest vote, like when people elect a dog to be mayor on the understanding that the new mayor will not be pushing an agenda, but instead will be a photogenic good boy.

I feel like the current agenda of progress at any price to be highly damaging to the state. My county has been obsessed with phasing out cars and putting in bike lanes, and locals despise the "regional plan". They want ample parking, without meters. 101, a state long artery is damn near clogged in my old hometown by green lanes, while traffic has been thinned to one lane going either way.

golly, this isn't the thread I thought it was.

I watched a Danny Mcbride video earlier, and found it amusing that he was essentially seduced by Bill Murray on an airplane flight, but managed to get him to do a scene on his show in return.

Kenny bless'ed powers is usually good for a laugh or two.
