I was surprised how upset I was today when my microwave of 25 years packed up.  I'd had it so long it sort of symbolised immortality.  Now it's broke, anything can.

smokester, congratulations on your microwave longevity.  We have an old clunker that we inherited 12 years ago from its second owner.  It's still faithfully heating coffee and the occasional frozen meal.

I still miss it to be perfectly honest.  The new one I bought is functionally equal to the old Panasonic, and remarkably, doesn't look that dissimilar. The problems is though that the new jobbie beeps so flippin' loudly that it's like an alarm clock going off.  Hot chocolate late at night tends to wake up the children.  And the neighbours.
