When I ordered this on Friday, I didn't opt for the guaranteed Monday delivery at £10, but rather the 3-5 working days for £5.

It's arriving on Monday. Go figure.

It arrived this afternoon and is still in the grey plastic bag.  Inside the bag is the box, and inside the box are the goodies.

I think I'll open it when the kids are at school tomorrow. In fact, I'll buy a cappuccino on the way home to aid me.  With whipped cream of course - foreplay just wouldn't be the same without it.

I finally opened the box and set it up this afternoon, but Windoze 8 just killed the mood.

I'll hang onto it just to keep up with the young folk, but a partition and Win 7 is on its way.

I say suck it up and just keep using Win8.  Throw on ClassicShell and you'll barely notice Metro.

ClassicShell was installed with the first 3 minutes (thanks for that Dweez) and I am already starting to warm to Windoze 8.

OK, so here's the problem:

I still want to install 7 on a partition (for some software and localhost reasons) but the UEFI could cause a problem, right?

Do I set the bios to UEFI and Legacy OS, install 7 on a partitiion and then take my chances?

Do I backup Win 8 (it was pre-installed with no disks) and then install 7 and then re-install 8 as the secondary system?

Do I nuke the drive, install 7, download and install 8 and hope the key in the bios activates it?

I haven't had to mess between UEFI and Legacy yet so I can't speak on that.  I do know that Windows8 comes with Hyper-V (you just have to enable the role) which would allow you to set up a Windows 7 VM.  Depending on the resource requirements of the software in question, that might suffice.

As for dual-booting, I stopped doing that years ago in favor of VMs (first VMWare, then VirtualBox, now Hyper-V as an option).  I much prefer to have both OS' accessible to me rather than having to shutdown and boot into another.

Before you do anything though, I'd make a full disk image of the system so you can restore it back to current factory config if something goes wrong or if you just want to revert back.  I idle in the ##windows IRC channel on freenode and tons of people come in asking for help on how to restore back.  If you don't care about all the poopla that came with it from the factory, you can also just make sure you have the following and do a reinstall yourself:
1) the license key of your Windows install
2) the media of the exact OS version that came with the computer (OEM, Pro, Ent, etc), that's the only version the license key will work with
3) Optional: OS drivers for at least the network card of your system so that you can get online and get other drivers as needed (Optional because the odds are good one of the standard drivers that come with Windows 8 will work fine.

I think Hyper-V is only for the pro version. The product key is now apparently hard coded into the bios for pre-installed machines.  I grabbed it anyway using Belarc.

I have the network driver and Samsung have a driver companion piece of software called SW Update that you download to get your installation drivers, so that should be ok too. 

The real issue is that having 7 beside 8, rather than the other way around, can stop you booting into either which wouldn't be good.  I want have separate installs so that Windows 8 isn't running, which it would be using a VM.  I'm not entirely sure I need to do that, but I'd prefer it none the less.

I'll try to install 7 on a partition and see what happens, at least that way the drive will be fairly intact.  I'll grab an image of it beforehand to be safe.

Thanks for for mentioning ClassicShell. I was hoping for something like that, and now I don't have to worry about updating to 8.1.
