Just got a new error (at least new to me) at around 6:40PM EST.

That message now appears because the host suggested I update the site files even though 2 domains running different versions are having the same problem.  I can update the database but I don't think that is the cause of the problem, as it seems that it sporadically loses some of the connection to the database.

They are now telling me that it is because of what I have set as the database username on another domain - which would be funny if it wasn't so important.

I am getting nowhere with the host so I am going to request migration to a different server or just cancel this account for a U.K based account which is more expensive but far more solid.

Hopefully this update will post when I press the button, but if not I'll mail it out.

I'm going to move us to a different server soon and I have decided to out the site into maintenance mode for a day while it happens (to avoid XT and myself getting trapped in an alternate dimension - even though I quite enjoyed the experience).

I'll newsletter your email accounts when it is due to happen and don't forget that you can always mail me at [email protected] if you have any problems logging back in after the migration,

Got a new one.

Do you have a test site exhibiting the same symptoms?  Maybe upgrading it to test might help?  Are all your sites running the same levels of software?

Oh, btw, I'm still getting the SMF connection issue fairly often.  I haven't mentioned it because it's already been mentioned several times but just letting you know it's still going on.

Not to worry about that as I was just updating the DB to match our site version.  There is definitely some very iffy configuring going on with our server as it lost the connection with the database 18 time while upgrading? Maybe you should tell them what's what Dweezo?

Apparently the problem has been corrected so can anyone who gets an error from now on, please post it here so I can confirm whether the error has been fixed or not.

Ah, I should have realized you were probably upgrading software and such.  I didn't get any errors this round of perusing the boards.

You've probably noticed but we have that shaky database error recurring again.  It doesn't knock us out completely and I'm sure it's just a configuration file on the server that has a bug and should be easily sorted out by the host.  With our fingers crossed that is.

Server clock was playing silly buggers apparently which screwed with connecting to the database. All fixed now I am told.

Yeah, time differences are pretty important when dealing with databases.  I haven't been on a lot the last few days because I've been in a training class at work that's goes all week but I did notice an SMF error the other day.

We were hacked again this morning and this has been happening a lot to me lately mainly with Wordpress sites (which is not that unusual).  It seems it was an automated hack that can somehow get into the SMF software without too much effort.  I'll try and find the hole and plug it and thanks for reporting it Dweez as I may have been out all day today and not seen it.  I have to go and disinfect the place now - anyone have any extra strong bleach going spare?

Man, they copied dozens of write enabled index files to every folder and sub folder on the site, presumably so they can hack it again easily whenever they choose.

I say 'they', but most of these things are automated bots - at least they are with Wordpress hacks.

I'll see if I can beef up security.

I just had an hour whereby I couldn't connect to the entire hosting company.  After some research, apparently this sometimes occurs for international visitors (they are based in the U.S) so I wonder if any of our American friends friends witnessed this? Though by rights they should have all still been asleep.
