Title: Spiders
Post by: Diabolico on October 04, 2009, 06:37:01 AM
Been noticing more tegenaria gigantea (giant house spiders); saw another one yesterday, it had six legs, probably lost two legs in a fight. The information I read, states they run, but this six legged spider kept running after me:

Probably the scariest spider since I looked out my window and saw a araneus diadematus (garden spider), building a web on my front window:

Post pictures of spiders you have recently seen, or have made you go WTF!!!

Ive raised spiders before,, they are fascinating .

We have alot of jumping spiders here.
I currently have a black widow with an egg sack in a sealed vivarium. She is VICIOUS! I love her to death.
I know we have the big black and yellow ones here too,, they ake HUGE webs,, sometimes six to eight feet in diameter.  Theyer pretty after it dews or some fog starts to burn away.
Ill take a pic of one of the webs and post it here.

the wall before putting them on now.  :D :P

how many gross things you could step on in a single day and then bring all of that into the house and all over the carpet. Makes my skin

Not a big fan of spiders.  Creepy crawly things creep me out.

BTW, my brother was bitten by a brown recluse on his back near his waist (doctor believes he must have rolled over on it in his sleep).  It didn't turn into necrotizing fasciitis (as it can) but he started getting painful, discolored lumps around his groin area.  After a few days, he called his doc and was told to get to the hospital right away.  Luckily the doc recognized the symptoms and my brother was treated right away.  The doc then told him that if he ever experienced something like this again, contact him right away, night or day.

We have only small spiders here and none of them aren't dangerous to humans or larger animals than small butterfly.

Spiders are unknown world to me,maybe I should check them closely.

We are lucky because we don't have those kind of monsters here.

Black widow looks to be very nasty toxic spider.
Title: Re: Spiders

Black Widows are nasty business.  Not as nasty as some of the spiders native to Australia,
but nasty and prolific enough that they concern me when I find one in my closet  :o

On a related note, from what I read, the Golden Orb Weaver spins a web of similar
strength to the Black Widow.  If you haven't ever felt a Black Widow web, I can tell you
it is quite strong.

Thanks (?)  :D for those other pics Smokester.  That spider seriously does not look real.

blech :-X

The two biggest spiders I saw near the lake. One was a black widow when I was liitle, I saw it fishing. The other I saw a couple of years ago.. it was so big I wouldn't look at it.. so I have no idea what it was.

It's weird.. I think spiders are really useful and beautiful.. but there's something at a primal level that just really bugs me about them. I especially hate it when they do that hoppy jumpy thing ???

true.  :P

I guess I was referring more to the environment of it all.

I mean the whole thing was taking place in someone's yard.

That gives a different feel than watching it or filming it where it would naturally occur.

Maybe I'm too soft.  :P

And I doubt a behemoth like that would die from skipping one meal for the day.  :D

Back yard's are a wilderness for a host of wild thing's, granted not all are as big as the politician. Every day is a struggle for life and death to some creature or another.

I don't know much about spiders. if they are like snake, one big meal might last then a few months.  ???

I would of swore that the spider eating the bird was fake until I showed the pics to my daighter and her Dad. He told me that in some latin american countries that this is not unusual at all and it very well could be legit.

Now that spider that wont die living around our mailbox doesnt seem quite as creepy.

The Spiders you need to avoid are Phoneutrea Nigriventer.
  The Brazilian Wandering Spider.
These things aren't afraid of people,in fact they'll rear up on their hind legs and run at you.
80% of bites are fatal,they're very aggressive.(http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg286/Geemonster_2008/PhoneutreaNigriventer-1.jpg)

The only good thing about Black Widows is that they're relatively docile.
You have to really scare the crap out of them to get them to react.

The bad thing is that they like dark secluded places, so if you're not
careful and stick your hand somewhere that hasn't been accessed in
a while, it might scare the Black Widow and you get bitten.

I learned at a very early age to always check where I was going to put my
hands.  In later life, I learned to wear gloves when I do any work outside.
Those awful gits build their homes in the weirdest places.

 :D

sorry,I couldn't resist my own stupididty.

in all seriousness though, I agree. They love to hide and most bites are the result of accidnetly stumbling upon them and pissing them off or scaring them as you've said. I killed three in the past year, all hidden in places where someone might have treaded and ended up getting bitten. I'm glad as a banana spiders get along so well with me. But when they're not looking , or expecting it..... >:D

I know, right? :D

If I saw that in real life, I doubt I'd stay around to make sure it's a dog and not a giant spider

I wouldn't. I'd drink a red bull and fly away to safety.  ;D

Nah!  From my experience, spiders for the most part arent that aggresive.
Ive had terantulas in the wild actualy crawl over me. I was just something in their path and didnt really pay me much notice.
Theyre just big fuzzies to me.

Trust me Robin Phoneutria Nigriventer is the most aggressive Spider in the world.
Aggressive enough to rear up on their hind legs and run at a full grown person.

I used to raise Egyptian Emperor amd Whiptailed scorpions.

They are really cool.
Nothing like a scorpion thats 30 centimeters long and can kill a mouse for its tea in less than 30 seconds.

Me and my son and youngest brother used to get bored. I was home for a few weeks due to injuries and nothing was on tv that summer.

I remember we used to play the frog game, we would go looking for frogs and keep score .
Scoring depended on size, color, breed and time of day or night.
Also we made it depend on what you were doing when you found it, and its overall health.

Like I said, we were bored.
We got to where we would catch wood spiders and terantulas and toss them into the open windows of passing cars of people we didnt really like ( 90% of people we knew lmao).

One guy didnt notice for three days that he had a big 8 legged fuzzy in his truck .
His date found it when it crawled onto her lap while they were making out one night.

That was funny!!! :D :D

^ frog spotting actually sounds fun, not boring.

I actually looked up simple green just so I can be informed and in case I wake up one day to a wasp  :D

LOL.. heh it's biodegradable so might not have harmed him :P ..the intent was just to knock him out of his high spot so I could grab him ::)

Most bugs and spiders I find inside, I catch and release outside. But I've gotten mild reactions to some bees and wasps before, so they don't get redemption since I don't want to risk getting stung :D

I can have quite hideous reactions to mozzies, wasps and other stinging critters, so for them I take the gloves off.  I do however, open a window, point to it and say in a loud, stern voice to invading wasps "I will give you 5 seconds to leave my house or I shall be forced into killing you" - sounds a weird thing to do to an animal with no grasp of English but 9 times out of 10 they quickly leave.  I can bellow so maybe the vibrations I make in the air is enough to put the willies up them?
Title: Re: Spiders

The times I've gotten stung by bees or wasps were my fault ::) I either laid on them, or stepped on them. So, they weren't really being evil on purpose :D

And I have a small voice that doesn't carry well.. so the booming voice thing would not work for me >_<

Ive had wasps and thing sting me for no reason other than they are mean bastards.
So I dont sho them any mercy.
The wasps we get in Oklahoma are HUGE! Big red things that can do some real harm.

They look like small red japanese Zeros trying to kamikazi something.
Ive seen them sting a dog to death. This past summer a toddler was stung 16 times in just a few seconds. It almost died.
