right then .
can i run a printer on a usb connection and a parallel printer cable. ???
reason.
the printer is connected via a belkin network usb hub http://www.belkin.com/networkusbhub/ (http://www.belkin.com/networkusbhub/) and allows 3 desktops and 1 laptop on Windows XP / vista around the house to print and read an external HDD drive.
my desktop is dual boot Windows / Ubuntu Ubuntu Karmic koala.
Trouble is my Ububtu wont recognise the belkin hub and i cannot find a link / post to make it work.(doesn't work in wine also, as i have read in a post somewhere)
so i thought i could use the parallel port in koala and the usb in xp.
On my xp side i have disabled the printer port in settings manager so in theory i shouldn't have a clash of
printer connections.
i dont want to buy another printer just for my Ubuntu side of my pc,although they are as cheap as chips and i could use bluetooth options to print via the laptops.

I once connected my old Lexmark Z32 printer to two computers - one on USB and the other to the parallel.
It worked fine, except that if I wanted to print with the other computer, I'd have to switch the printer off and then on. That wasn't a problem for me.
So I think it will work.
Would it not work if you connect the printer with just the parallel port, without the USB port?

as i have posted i still need the printer to run on the hub for my children and wife.
i need the printer to run on xp and ubuntu via a cable.
i'll just go for it
