Galaxy 5 s won't format microSD cards.

(1/1)

8ullfrog:
My mom had an original galaxy s, which came with a samsung brand 16 gb microSD card.
I had an htc Thunderbolt, which came with a 32 gb Kingston microSD card.

Both sticks work, and can be formatted in my galaxy tab 3 tablet, but trying to use them with my galaxy 5 s phone results in "unsupported sd card"

It says they need to be "securely formatted" when I tap okay, it starts at 20%, which I KNOW means it will fail. Formats do not start at 20%.

Sure enough, it fails, and the format wizard disappeared like it was never there.

Advice online seems to be "go buy a card reader for pc" or "buy a new sd card".

I'd like a solution that doesn't boil down to "spend more money".

no help from me I'm afraid, had similar in an old Samsung and i formatted sd card on PC them formatted in phone and all was well  ???

smokester:
I gave up with Samsungs altogether after both my wife's and my S3 just played silly buggers. Her S4 ain't much better.

You can get the card readers for a $ so it might be worth doing that to check whether it's the card or the tablet. At least then you'd know what your outlay to fix the problem might be.

8ullfrog:
Sorry to Necromance, but I bless'ed hate tech threads where they never post the solution.

The phone was still under warranty so I got it replaced.

Might have to do it again, this one has screen burn because of black notification bar. Very noticeable on white background.

8ullfrog:
it's the blue pixels.

Oddly enough, the one that had the busted SD slot did NOT burn.

Hell, that's probably why this one was in their refurb pile.
