Ingnoring that fact that spellcheck is given any credit, when I post rare words I always check they exist in the common dictionary.  Jack's does: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/exequy

However, that rule, if it were introduced, would not apply to proper nouns that are also viable and as you have already indicated.  There are other strange words that also have their own wiki pages but not dictionary entries - so they are another grey area to add to the list.

Maybe you should just exclude proper nouns and ask for words to appear in one of the popular online dictionaries?

Gonna have to give that a ponder...

The problem, as I see it, is that the non-English speaking members would be at a great disadvantage,
seeing how English is a second language, and the exotic parts aren't part of common English classes, far as I know...

I'm really not sure how to address the language barrier with this game. But I generally won't use a word now unless I can find it on 4+ distinct pages with mostly similar definitions.
