Goldie and I have gone over a few of these but I was wondering what everyone else was thinking of these films? The ladies in my family had an OSCARathon weekend and watched
The Martian
Room
The Danish Girl
Brooklyn
Bridge of Spies
Joy
Revenant
Spotlight
The Big Short
The Hateful Eight
Opinions varied across the board but I think everyone enjoyed/ was entertained the most by The Martian. I think Revenant is going to sweep at the Oscars because of its larger than life qualities but not everyone agrees with that. The Big Short was a great film. Took a complicated (for me anyway) issue and did an excellent job of being factual, yet entertaining.
Which will you be rooting for?
Here are the nominees:
BEST PICTURE
The Big Short
Bridge of Spies
Brooklyn
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Martian
The Revenant
Room
Spotlight
ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE

Matt Damon, The Martian

Michael Fassbender, Steve Jobs
Eddie Redmayne, The Danish Girl
ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Cate Blanchett, Carol

Hi, OC1! How are you?
Unfortunately, of all those movies I've only watched Mad Max: Fury Road, The Hateful Eight and Spotlight.
I liked all 3.
-
One vote for Trumbo.
-
Mad max received more awards than The Revenant :o must have given out some good goodie bags
winners of the four main acting awards were (l-r) Mark Rylance, Brie Larson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Alicia Vikander. Would have put Eddie Redmayne in there but hey ho Leo's time.

I actually picked ALL of these and Im VERY surprised!! However, Tom Hardy was the ONLY clear winner for supporting actor and I think he was robbed!! Goldie we touched on Danish Girl and the fact that the only thing I liked about the film was her and the photography I think. Lol!! Room is an incredible film. Put it to the top of the viewing list if you havent seen it. I watched that one twice.

I genuinely think all of the Mad Max Oscars would be better served by other movies. I want to know who's sleeping with/paying off who for those awards!!

Hi, OC1! How are you?
Good! Hows life lady? I cant believe you havent seen more of the "list". Thats not like you. Lol!
-
I think revenant may have been viewed as Oscar bait, when Fury road was meant to be a film? How was bridge of spies?

That's life getting in the way of my movies, girl!! :D

I'm very intrigued about that movie. I've read the words "claustrophobic" and "heartbreaking" in some reviews. Is it?

Ummmm.... both are accurate but not feelings that were experienced by me personally. Its life as you would imagine it. I think I know you in that regard. How you feel about life and wanting your child to experience it.

How was bridge of spies?
Brilliant film!! It was all encompassed by the era that it was lived in. I thought everything about it was consistent. The music, the cast, the characters, the wardrobe, it was very good.

So 2017 awards are about to descend upon us with their usual pomp and self gratitude.
Interesting after last year's boycott.
To be brutally honest looking at what is up for awards I'd be struggling to guess what will win.
I loved Arrival,La La Land (because its different atm) and that's it, Hacksaw ridge was so so and haven't seen the other nominated movies for best picture.
I would guess and more than likely be wrong but my are forecasts
Best picture - “La La Land”
Lead actor - Denzel Washington, “Fences”
Lead actress - Emma Stone, “La La Land”
Supporting actor - Lucas Hedges, “Manchester by the Sea”
Supporting actress - Octavia Spencer, “Hidden Figures”
Is anyone really interested in any of the others ?
