I can't say I'd heard of it but after reading this in Metro:

Spartacus 'too rude for British TV'
Spartacus: Blood and Sand features graphic sex scenes, full-frontal nudity, explicit orgies....

and the fact that I can finally get to see Lucy Lawless in the noddy, it won't be long before I can offer some critique on the subject.

I just watched episode 1 of this. It was mostly awful. The dialogue is horrendous, as was most of the acting. On the plus side, there was plenty of female nudity on show, I lost count of the number of sex scenes, 3 or 4 I think, and the fight scenes were okay.
The worst thing about it however is the fake cgi blood effects. Every time a wound is inflicted it is shown in slow motion and unfortunately this highlights how bad the blood effects are.

4/10 (one for each nude lady)  :D

Nudity in film is just not the same without a good narrative and some quality thespians.

That's 'thespians' I said..

I'm not watching it unless I find out there's lots of equal amounts of male nudity.

I believe episode two has plenty of full frontal male nudity.

I think she was the only woman in that first episode who kept her clothes ON!  :(

It is equal ;)  the sex scenes are realistic for the time period I would guess. But for me I love the period it's set and just like the production  the CGI blood scenes work for me. Being squeamish and the blood looking like something from a comic book i can watch. It's also to me anyway has a good story to follow. Not to mention John Hannah a strong British/Scottish actor playing one of the leading roles. It turns out Andy Whitfield who plays Spartacus has cancer so season 2 will be delayed :(

Quote
LOS ANGELES, March 9 (Xinhua) -- The lead actor of "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" Andy Whitfield announced Tuesday that he had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

"I'm receiving excellent care, and am feeling strong, positive and determined with an army of support behind me," the Welsh-Australian actor said in a statement.

The disease was discovered during a routine checkup as he prepared for the sophomore season of the cable series. Premiered in January, the series' first season finale is set to air on April 16th.

The second season was scheduled to begin shooting shortly in New Zealand, but has been postponed to accommodate the actor's treatment, according to Starz, the network.

"Doctors have stated his condition is very treatable, and was detected in its early stages," the statement said.

Whitfield gained his first prominent role in the Australian supernatural film "Gabriel." In "Spartacus", he plays the part of Spartacus, a soldier condemned to fight as a gladiator and who ultimately leads a rebellion against the Romans.
