Title: Advanced Dungeons & Rabbits.
Post by: smokester on December 03, 2009, 05:11:28 PM
I found this game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Dungeons_&_Rabbits) that was developed for phpBB and although it was sort of given up on a couple of years ago, I found a recent tweaked version that I installed offline to have a look at.  It still isn't updated for the latest version of phpBB but it looks quite interesting in the 5 minutes I have spent checking it out.

Has anyone ever heard of this before or even played it as I might chuck it in a subdomain for us to mess about with?  Here's a screen that sort of gives you an idea what it looks like and what it does:

This is interesting as it runs using PHP and is akin to a MMORPG without the graphics. It would probably be too much to keep up with but I'll install it anyhow and give it a whirl.

I'll check its stability on my local machine for a bit and see if I can get the pet addon to work too, then I'll install it live and let you know.

I'd be up to play it.  Not sure how much time I can invest in it, but it's worth a shot.

By all accounts it looks like quite a personal affair, what with the usual getting stronger by fairly mundane visits to the towns etc.  But there is a mod that allows admin to create quests that I might see if I can get, and that might give it longevity.

There is a request over on the SMF forum for someone to port it to SMF.  I can't see it happening, or at least any time soon, but if someone does give it a shot I reckon it would look and play much better on these forums rather than phpBB.

Unfortunately the version of this I have is incomplete and the addons that are needed to make it work correctly are no longer available (at least they aren't for the moment).  However, I have installed a little MMORPG that looks quite good fun although I have no idea what impact it will have on the server.  Because of that I am going to stress test it first so if there is anyone who would like to help me do that, please PM me for the address.

We should be able to interact with each other in the game to a degree, but anyone caught in the hills killing low-level boars to gain experience points will be pwned by the admin...
