Post by: brickbatz on September 19, 2012, 02:43:20 PM
The Firefox add-on WOT, the Web Of Trust gives this site a [Very Poor] rating.

Seems it's due to Dareks67' solitary, and inaccurate suggestion that we are a phishing site.

I'll send Dweez after him.

This post on Mozilla has someone not being too happy with WOT and a possible way of resolving it?

The service is completely inaccurate, and open for abuse by everybody.

There must be a system in place to take over this major shortcoming or otherwise this addon is a fail.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (20120827).

Our reputations tell you how much people trust websites and the rating system is highly resistant against manipulation, which is probably why you decided to post here instead. You can learn more from our FAQ:

No thanks, Chrome won't protect you from malicious sites any more than Firefox. WOT isn't built into Firefox, it's a third party add-on. Now I'm wondering how many of the sites I shied away from, because of a warning, were in fact good sites.

The phishtank website the comment posted says it's a few directories in "www.diasfora.co.uk" (/themes/core/... etc.).

It's also saying the suspect file cannot be found.  I wish it'd make its mind up.

I checked and there was a hangover folder from a hack we had a while back that'd been emptied.  Perhaps it had that cached.

We're firewalled now anyway.

I hate how booze just vanishes.

Might I suggest a thread title change? ( Diasfora slandered by Firefox Add-on "WOT")

or is this section spider blocked? I think it'd be neat to shake things up through the venue of Google.

Even better, I've made it the news so not only can this thread be spidered (it's public), but in a while your suggestion should come up as the site/index page description.

Hi smoke.

Hello Bea.

On this subject, we are definitely clean and I am hoping that once Phishtank's cache is updated they will see our true status.

Regardless of what might be lurking in one's site files (the Wordpress sites I host get hacked on a monthly basis and getting every little character of malicious code out can be tricky, even though the threat has been deleted), I don't think anyone can use the terms "Verified: Is a phish" unless a phishing attempt has actually occurred.  It's like the false positives that anti-virus programs sometimes give when they don't recognise a file.

Thanks for the heads-up with this Brickbatz as it seems WOT have now rescanned our files and we no longer have a bad reputation.

Another plus is it makes Darek look a bit of a twit.

When I saw that I thought WTF? Now WOT says Not enough ratings for this site.

* I registered an account with WOT and gave us an excellent rating across the board.

If you have WOT installed in Firefox, click on the icon then View scorecard for rating details. You can register, rate and comment there.

A bit worn out and creaking at the hinges, but otherwise ok.

Nice to see you around Hmed, I hope you're well too.

Right, installed WOT, not seeing the problem.

Gave it a good rating, and a short review. Will now be uninstalling the add-on. Do people really need such a net-nanny?

I have NoScript disabled for now. If WOT shows a warning I enable it before going to the site.

I found Noscript a real pain to use. :-\

It does seems somewhat counter productive.  I have been buying a few things online as usual, but now I get a WOT warning for some sites I visit, sites I know to be pretty safe.  I expect one person has given it a bad review and nobody has bothered writing a good one so the mud sticks.  I know this as a WOT warning I have emptied my basket and bought the products elsewhere (I'm so impressionable).

He's just some slob with a keyboard and an internet connection, as far as I can tell. Only "The Shadow" and Darek know why.
