Good to know
« on: October 19, 2009, 12:48:29 PM »
I got this email a few hours ago. I think it's very thoughtful and important that a simple message like this gets passed around. So I'm posting it here in case anybody is interested if not for personal use then to be informed. Thanks all.

Quote
INFORMATION EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW........
Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue

STROKE:Remember the 1st Three Letters....S.T.R.

If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.
Seriously..

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening

Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away). She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die. they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this...

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. It is sunny out today.)
R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS..

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

I have done my part. Will you?
A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read. -Mark Twain

Just pray it isn't a hemorrhagic stroke.  Those are the ones with the high kill rate.

A lot of people survive an ischemic stroke.

If you've ever experienced stroke like symptoms that went away, you may have had a transient ischemic attack (TIA).  Take heed and consult your doctor.

A stroke will affect only one side of your body. If you have experienced weakness and loss of sensation on one side only, best to consult a neuro.

And don't forget Physical Therapy will help after a CVA.

As we were lowering my grandma's casket into the ground and I was weeping my eyes out, my kids patted me on the back and stroked my hair while whispering "It's okay, Mommy.  Life's like that.  Everybody dies.  We all die, anyway."

We all laughed after the funeral.  Turned out I wasn't the only who heard them say it.  My relatives did too.  And we all had the same reaction.

I don't mean to sound callous, but everybody dies.

Wasnt that Type O Negative?

People think Im a littlemorbid since I were alot of shirts with skulls on them, and my decorations in my home are a a bit gothic looking.
I learned a long time ago that if your afraid of something, you give it dominion over you.
Dont fear anything and you live free of fear.
I dont fear death, its a logical end to somthing thats not quite logical.
Not to mention it helps when there is an afterlife to look forward to.
Death is just a transition from one state of being to another. Energy doesnt disipate, it transforms to another type of energy. Life has GOT to be oneform, and death transforms that energy to something else.
I dont welcome death,, i just dont fear it anymore.
Most of what I fear about death is not accomplishing what I want to do with what time I have left.

Ok,, so thats a bit morbid,, but atleast im not sacrificing cats like some do lmao.
I keep my standards low.
That way im never disapointed.

That is SO fantastic Sub! I dont know which emotion would take the lead in that case. Pride for having such awesome kids or sadness for losing my Grandma. Probably pride though cause you know your Grandma was most likely looking over you says,"What incredible Grandkids I have. Just listen to those little munchkins of hers".  I have to tell you that the Grandma that I was closest to died almost 20 years ago now (wow, thats freaky) but I literally still think about her everyday when I do something that she taught me or remember fun adventures that we had together. Of course I wish she were still here to make more memories with but Im eternally grateful that she helped make me the woman I am today.

ALL HAIL COOL GRANDMA'S!!

My grandma loved my kids mainly because they were good looking. ;D

She was half gone already and still refused to have ugly people around her.

My grandma turned wierd when she reached 70.

She would allways get up at the butt crack of dawn, walk out to the mailbox and yell obceneties for a minute, walk back in and go back to sleep.
Said it was her way of protesting old age.

I liked that old woman,, she was awsome. She bought me my first leather jacket , said I looked like James Dean or something.
The older she got the cooler she got.  She passed away back in 2001,, I still miss her.
We used to watch horror flicks together and things.. when she found out I went into pro wrestling she came to a show and defended me,,literaly,, with her fist....
Cant buy a gramma like that with all the money in the world.
I keep my standards low.
That way im never disapointed.

Not if you're in the hermit club you wont! Well I guess she could be a member too.

Not trying to drone on about the family life Gee but that really sucks. Is it just your parents that you are estranged from or your brothers and sisters too. Any extended family? Grandparents, cousins, etc?  And I dont want to point out the obvious but dont you think it might be difficult to get close to someone not having had anything to compare it to? Damn....Im getting out of my psychological league here. Well, Im offering you a big hug!!

My sister is a lying coniving trolop that will do anything to ruin anyines life ( she messeged Tracy and told her I had twins from a 16 year old and wouldnt pay child support and that im a pedophile hoping Tracy would drop me).
She has stolen me blind on several occasions.

My brother is a bullheaded idiot that lives in his own world. Its either what he thinks or its all wrong and he makes a big deal out of it.
He has recently been on this jag of wanting to kill himself ( sometimes I wish he would so I wouldnt have to hear about it anymore).
My youngest sister is a bisexual drug addict that gave up her son and my youngest brother is stuck in video games 24/7.
My mom is a saint and my father was a massive disciplinarian.
Ive had a wierd life as it is I guess.

And Gee, you already have met awesome women.  What do you think the ladies of Dias are? ;D

As for relatives, I can live without most of them.  One I wouldn't even mind seeing dead.  She dies, I celebrate.  And good luck to whoever is running Hell.
