Seconded, without Shatner there would be no Star Trek.  I'm sure you now CMF that the original pilot that didn't feature him (in fact Leonard Nimoy was the only surviving cast member) essentially finished Star Trek before it began.  Sure he is arrogant this and selfish that, but all Star Trek fans owe him a debt of gratitude.

A top rate Star Trek cast member. Without him Shatner would not be able to hold his title but Shatner is still Star Trek.

I think you all forget that Star Trek is not only TOS. You have also TNG with characters such as Captain Picard and Data...
Data kinda reminds of Sheldon  ;)

Patrick Stewart is a thespian of the highest order, and another good example of how a single actor can make a show legendary, against all the odds.  If he happened to an arrogant cry baby, would his part in TNG be any less worthy?

No, his part would still be legendary. I will just not respect him as an individual. I have never said that Captain Kirk is unimportant. I just said that Shatner is a jerk in real life  :-\
