Vancouver 2010
« on: February 12, 2010, 09:49:08 PM »
So the Winter Olympic Games are on!
I hope Canada finally wins a gold medal on native land.  :P

On a serious note though, it's really sad that on the day of opening, Nodar Kumaritashvili from Georgia died in a crash accident during his training run.  :(

I am trying to watch Olympics, but timezones between Olympics and me cause sleeping problems. >:(

Looks like this Georgian sportsman broke his neck when he crashed.

It is very sad that this young man lost his life.  It's also not a stellar way for the Games to start off.  I'm sure he will be remembered throughout the proceedings though.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and teammates.

The International Olympic Committee and luge officials have taken criticism for blaming the accident on Kumaritashvili's failure to make tactical corrections during his run, and for saying they were changing the course not to make it safer but to soothe the emotions of the athletes.

^ I did think it was insensitive that they quickly released that statement. And also they'd tried to say he was young and inexperienced. Olympians aren't made over night, it was wrong to say he was inexperienced as a way to pass off blame.

Plus the news showed the accident, and supposedly posted the clip on line. Why would they need to do that?! ??? It seemed like an obvious attempt to get ratings, and website hits :(

That's sad. Plus, when they want to exploit something, it's justified. But political violence they hide from people. It's so wrong.
