"If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice."
Not as a statement of indesisivness but a credit to having an open mind.
-
I told you I was ill...
-
" Yeah,,try and collect that money now, sucker!"
Or something to that extent
-
I already had this planned out by the time I hit high school.
I want Christina Rossetti's poem Remember on my headstone. I quite haven't figured out how to manage it because I want to be cremated.
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
-
I haven't thought about this much but I like the one Phil Laak (pro poker play) has chosen.
"Into this world without my consent. Leaving this world against my will.''
-
I told you I was ill...
That's what my dad wants on his, too :D
Like subvinorosa, I'm going to be cremated :P
If I did have a tombstone, it would say something like, "I'm watching you while you take a shower."
I saw a creepy one once that said, "As I am now, you soon shall be, so prepare for death and follow me"
-
How about the music notation to "DOnt Fear The Reaper" by the Blue Oyster Cult
-
"Here lies an atheist, with no place to go"
----------------
"Mark the right one when science has an answer"
[ ]"There is a God?! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK"
[ ]"Told ya suckers! Sucks to have lost those Sundays huh!?"
-
That's what my dad wants on his, too :D
It is of course a quote from the inimitable, comic genious that was Spike Milligan, and I believe it is on his headstone.
-
"Back in a sec."
-
wow i've never spend a thought about this yet ..
:D maybe something along the lines of:
que sera, sera
-
im probably going to donate my body to a medical school, so students can use my body as a learning tool to help them care for patients better. and poke my liver to see what a lot of drinking can do ;D
-
NEXT!
-
"Back in a sec."
christ's will probably read "Have a nice weekend, see you Monday". Actually knowing him he'd start quoting Newton and the difference between the Judean and Julian calendars...
-
christ's will probably read "Have a nice weekend, see you Monday".
Damn, that's a better phrase, I'm bummed I didn't think of it first. ;D

On his headstone?
Is there room for that? :D
-
Is there room for that? :D
He's got a mac, stonemasonry is not beyong their capability.

Hmm, quite a serious thread you have goin on here OC1,
why did you start such a serious thingy? at this point always remember what the Joker says "Why So Serious"? plus with fools like us around ya you'll never run outta happiness :)
as for the thread, my 1st thought related to the subject since i havent seriously thought about a headstone yet was in some school grade eons ago when i first read a poem about Gilgalad, i really liked it, gave me the kinda feeling that this thread gives so i'm gonna contribute that for some good fun:
Gil-Galad was an elven king
Of him the harper's sadly sing:
the last whose realm was fair and free
between the mountains and the sea
His "sword" was "long", his lance was "keen"
his "shining" "helm" afar was seen
the countless of heaven's field
were mirrored in his silver shield
But Long ago he rode away,
and where he dwelleth none can say,
for into darkness fell his star
in Mordor where the shadows are
:(

I was thinking something like " HA! Screw with me now"
Or maybe something somber " Here lies --------, a true friend to all"
But knowing my luck they will make a mistake like " Ding dong, the bastards gone"
-
...to be continued...
-
Maybe say nothing,,,,maybe just be a middle finger sticking up
-
On the headstone? Or really your finger sticking up from the dirt? ;D
-
Can I do both? lmao
-

loved the true friend to all, ding dong, the bastards gone made me lol :D
didn't get the: see you on monday post though ?

OK by me. You might have to get that approved by the mortuary, tho. I did my headstone.
-
cremated for me but their are so many worthy quotes and poems.
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am the song that will never end.
I am the love of family and friend.
I am the child who has come to rest
In the arms of the Father
who knows him best.
When you see the sunset fair,
I am the scented evening air.
I am the joy of a task well done.
I am the glow of the setting sun.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!
i'm into poetry
-
I like it. :)
-
an easy book to read is
The Nation's Favourite Poems. bbc books i think.
they do more but its a good easy start
-
I've always loved the 'do not weep for me' one.
In my travels I've always made it a point to visit old, old graveyards to read the headstones. Often odd, eerie, or humorous. Always glad I took the time. Only in Germany there were places I wouldn't go. After a 3-year research project, I couldn't.
-
How about " Reserved,,no parking"
-
hahaha. Nope, not for me. Mine's already done and waiting...
...to be continued...
-
That just sounded,,,,morbid
-
Why?
-
Yep.
-
I was planning on "Let me out you bastards!"
I think that it is a reference to an obscure religious figure, and his habit of not staying dead.
good morning, I should have gotten that 'see you Monday' reference. doh
-
My mouse has the hiccups
-
.....mmmmmk........

I know when my dad died it was hard to do the headstone thing.
It made it so,,damned final.
We finaly settled on " May your soul fly free,,youve earned your peace"
He did three tours of viet nam as a SEAL. He could never come to terms with what he had done or seen over there, and the trouble here since he was a veteran of over there.
We thought what he had on his headstone was appropriate
-
That is seriously beautiful and touching.
-
I came up with the idea of it.
Strange thing too,,there is a song by Poison that kinda described him,,Something to Believe In.
We had it played at his funeral,,to this day I cant listen to it,,and its a really good song too.
SOme people didnt apreciate it,,but I didnt figure they would understand anyway.
They didnt even like what we put on his headstone,,they said it wasnt what he would want.
It caused quite an argument
-
Shame how death seems to bring out the ugly side of families.
-
Yeah,,
I know when mom passes,,me and my brother are going to sitin the driveway with loaded guns, andshoot the first relative that comes and tries to vulture anything.
When dad passed away,,we had to chase people off who came up wanting stuff that was his. The will wasnt even read yet,,and allready relatives were lined up wanting this and that.
Im still fighting with this one idiot that wanted dads guns.
Fortunately for me im the one that inherited them and dads jeep.
My relatives are rediculous,,i dont even claim most of them.
I want THEIR heads stones to read " Gone,,LOST,,and FORGOTTEN"

i'm intrigued as to what these places are or could not go to ???
-
The death camps.
-
Those places must be horrible to be around
-
I didn't go, I knew I would be too affected.
-
I dont do cemetarys that well either.
I havent been to my dads grave since he was interred back in 2006
-
I like the old old ones. I did a shoot a long time ago in a very old one on the East Coast during an eclipse. Damn I wish I still had the pics.
-
visited Belsen a couple of times.
not much there to be told. have a few photo's. one of Anne Franks gravestone.
all i saw were mounds of heather and a little plaque stating how many people were buried there.
my wife has original pics when the camps were liberated. :o these need to go to a museum.
thanks for the answer though.

Thats incredible!! Im sure the Holocaust Museum would display those photos. Kinda gives me cold chills just thinking about it.
-
i / my wife will give to a museum but not Belsen.
there's almost nothing there.
they are chilling to look at. i looked at once and then refused.
parents went to Auswitch - ok nothing to be upset over.
but when they then went to Birkenau it really upset them.
-
During the movie "The Reader" one of the most interesting parts was when the kid went to the camp and walked around imagining. I know its morbid but sometimes you just have to put a face on things to really see them.
-
i havent seen yet ,but its on my to do .
if anyone wants i could post the pic's i have of Belsen , i've about 10 .nothing bad.
-
Please do.
-
i would love to see any, if not all, of the pictures you have. i would greatly appreciate it.
-
i'll post in them in the members photo thread.
give me a day.
-
Yeah, same here of the dudes that were caught and tried. Sorry, if I don't lighten up a bit this just twists my stomach.

yes it was a sad moment in history. we learn nothing.
any way back to the thread.
i would like on my headstone
Dont call me
I'll call you.
-
Dont call me
I'll call you.
Thats a good one.
i'd like to put "Don't Worry, be Happy" on mine.
-
It's things like these that, no matter how painful it may be, we must remember it. This way, we can better help prevent it from happening again.
-
i'd like to put "Don't Worry, be Happy" on mine.
So you want to annoy people after you are dead? :)
-
One would hope so dweez.
-
So you want to annoy people after you are dead? :)
First, why would that annoy people?
Second, i would love to annoy people from beyond the grave ;D
-
i'd like to put "Don't Worry, be Happy" on mine.

That song came out in '88........I think it would of been residual effects by that time. I was done with acid by '85.
-
Yeah but even so there are the free ones called flashbacks...just trying to help...

The term flashback implies that I actually remember something......but ya know, I really dont. Well, one time at the park.........Nope, dont remember that either.
-
Noooo, at least not to my experience, it just consists(ed) of the high, not an actual repeat. That should perhaps be my headstone....
-

To become a distance memory.
Go love again
Live again

Waste of money! The headstone would be good only for 3 days.

Lol, I seriously almost posted the exact same thing yesterday...Great mimes think alike.
/me walks against the wind, gets caught in an invisible box, then a spectator shoots him with a gun using a silencer (required)
-
A viking funeral will do just fine.
And then, if you want a stone in the middle of somewhere that's mine, I'll have to wait to write the last words.
