Title: a bargain or not
Post by: goldshirt*9 on April 21, 2011, 01:36:39 AM
today i have been given a FREE pc.
2 x geforce 7800gt ( pci , 256mb ddr) graphic cards. asus A8n-sli motherboard and attached cpu / fan (unsure what cpu it is ) 2 x corsair 1024 400mhz ran / heatsinks attached dvd burner / driver discs / sound card / manuals. case / fan and power supply no hdd all in bits. :D basically he has 2 sons who think they are good at pc work but are useless. ;D
is it a bargain for free - yes but is it any good ???
will try to build over easter and see what happens.
only need to purchase a hdd ( sata i think as it has sata / ide connections ) will keep you abreast of my errors :D :D :D :D :D :D

That looks like a sturdy piece of kit if nothing else, and by the looks of it, it was originally going to be a gamer's machine was it not?
I have been thinking about building a comp akin to Dweez's and be done with upgrading anything for the next 5 years, but I have also been considering a mac now as I am getting to that kind of age.
:)

i believes it was originally built for gaming .
m/board and power hooked up ok. having trouble with the wires from front of case to m/board , circled in red.
(http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg70/goldshirt9/c7403c8e-1.jpg) none are the same colour and the manual and unsure which is + / - :D :D will look again in the manual , a little busy right now sobering up from a hectic night in Preston :D :D
will give to my son for gaming.( will only use 1 graphic card though ). may have the other for my pc. ;) and will sell his old pc or give away ???

well i finally put together the pc. put everywhere where it should be ( hasn't blown up yet ) :D :D :D :D :D :D
installed W 7 64 bit dark edition and all went fantastically . Son was glad he could play portal on it ;D
only put 1 graphic card in although i am tempted on the 2nd card , all i need is a gizmo to join them up ??? not my pc and not being a gamer i am unsure if it actually does anything.???
