I'm thinking of sunnier climes.

And more sleep.

And women.

And booze.

And...

who broke the washing machine because
he didn't know how to work a toploader and
didn't care enough to ask me to show him

Whether I'm making the right decision about my son's secondary school.

Pretty sure I am, but it's uncharted territory for me.

I found out today that he has also qualified for a grammar school but not in the first batch of offers, so now I'm all of a flutter again.  Grammar schools can do as much harm as they do good, especially if your child is borderline by way of talent, but the opportunity they offer is unsurpassed within State run facilities.

agree totally.
If he is good enough then state schooling is a must.
BUT my son has excelled in a state school.
If they want to learn, they will.

London schools (like in other big U.K cities) can have all the best intention and commitment to the students, but can be very dangerous places due to a handful of individuals that in turn nullify all benefits and opportunities that the schools are meant to offer.  Staying in one piece can be an achievement - and unfortunately you don't get marked on that.

Unfortunately, the anti is much higher in Lambeth and Wandsworth.

One way or another my son will be going to school in Sutton, which is altogether a much leafier and nicer part of London.

I don't want to go to work.
Estragon: I can't go on like this.
Vladimir: That's what you think.
