"had it off" has a rude meaning in English. (... or at least it used to, when I was young enough to think/ talk about such things)

... just sayin'.

I thought you used the immaculate technique.

I worked memorial day, not till 10 pm though.  I'm working midnights at a residential home for mentally handicapped males.  I enjoy the work and the job, it's hard not to feel emotional for them, and I can admit to that being an ongoing and growing factor.  Great pay though and close to home.

Yup. Saves all the squishing and stuff.

... not an option for everybody, though.

I detect an intended double entendre.

Aha - so the language barrier isn't as high as I suspected!

"squishing and stuff".. you old romantic, you.

Bea, as I mentioned, I spent some time in the nuthouse during my detox. While the intake people were... let's just say less than professional, the caretaking staff were very kind, and I appreciated that, even though the graffiti in my room was bless'ed terrifying. Thankfully, a lot of that has passed out of memory, but it bent with me bad.

One even snuck me back my basketball shorts after the intake staff had stripped me of all but my t-shirt.

golly, I meant to make a lighthearted post about pikachu being too damn smart.

He figured out I can summon mom with my phone, and made noises every ten minutes until I complied. Little dude is bright.

I'm glad you have satisfying and well paying work, Bea.  I am sure you're a great caregiver..

8ully, I'm constantly amazed by how smart animals are and how effectively they learn to manipulate us.

Thanks Six, I am happy for the security in it.
I'm definitely nice to everyone, so I even have a hard time telling the guys what to do.
All of them are nonviolent and easily cared for.

My dad's dog used to know when he was coming home from Illinois, he'd get restless and start barking lightly every ten minutes or so.  Course it could have just been routine, dad did come and go the same times every week.

My daughter won yet another Mention in the provincial stage of the Math Olympics. I'm thinking:
a) Maybe I should get her a tutor (at least someone better than I am).
b) Maybe I should just relax and when she grows up she could marry a football player and I can retire in one of those condos in St Lucia smokester talked about.  ;D

I say definitely continue to encourage her to grow in her Mathematics knowledge if she enjoys it.  If that means getting her a tutor, or finding some other way to continually challenge her once she's "lapped" you, then so be it.  I'm definitely looking forward to more females in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields.  We're missing out on half of the world's collective brain power (and some may argue much more) which could be working to better our world instead of being stuck in gender stereotype.

If she likes mathematics you are all set, you don't really need tutors or assistance, she will find her own way. The trick that most schools (and parent, to be honest) miss is finding a way to make kids actually enjoy it - when they do, the job is mostly done.

If, on the other hand, she doesn't like it, tutors will further entrench the dislike and make things worse.

I sent the boy to a tutor as he's doing math GSCE early, and after a week she had to admit that she couldn't teach him anything. I asked if she could could teach him A-Level but the company she worked for didn't offer that.

He's pretty brilliant at math and most of his science subjects, but he's the laziest good-for-nothing that you've ever encountered. My guess is he'll waste his talents and end up living at home until he's 50.

It's his life after all.

Trust in the Force.

If the kid likes mathematics, 'A' Level is common sense and needs no teaching. Finding something easy often appears to others as laziness - the trick is to keep it interesting, rather than moaning about sloth.

Degree is when it starts to get interesting, and by then you are reliant on the professionals because that poo is hard. Fun, but hard.

It's probably less sloth and more social media/gaming. He does work (and works hard) when I ask him to as I've upped his wage to £30 a day. Considering he's only just turned 14 that ain't a bad whack. However, he only works a day every now and then so he isn't jetting off by himself any time soon. He does run the math even with this and works out how many he days he'd need to work for a new phone/comp/tablet. This is presumably so he can get back on his arse with better kit.

I personally think that our juvenile obesity problem is more to do with technology than it is to do with food.

I brought 8 bottles of rum home from St Lucia. You'd have no chance round here.

You might in a couple of weeks.

that's some weight in your luggage, unless you traded in the family
