Title: Have your local time added to your sig. Please sign up!
Post by: ohcheap1 on June 03, 2009, 03:32:54 PM
THIS IS A REQUEST THREAD
The time settings must be inserted by the site Admin so please post the following info

Smokes did a really cool HTML config to have your local time added to your signature stamp. Please post your username, local time, and if you want any pics to remain on the sig, if you are interested in this update.

I would LOVE to see everyone do this. It's an awesome reality check when you see it in print. Plus if you are lazy like me, you simply dont want to think about how late/early it is in XX's country.
Just sayin........

Just copying some stuff I said in the other thread, and this should really go in announcements and stickied.
Quote
Couple of things to take into consideration: Firstly you can choose a clock from here (http://www.clocklink.com/gallery.php) but can we stick to the fairly slim digital ones please, secondly, I do not want to make the allowed characters to large (set to 300 at the mo, most of which will be used up by the code) so adding other quotes (they usually use a lot of characters) along with the clocks I would also advise against. Adding your normal signature image in conjunction will probably be ok, but I am not going to start trying to style them one by one (meaning where things are positioned - unless explicitly laid out for me).

do I really need to post my user name in my post?  ::) ;)

local time:  3:07PM

I would like one similar to smokes' and next to my sig if possible.

Thanks guys. :)

There ya go hmed.  Let me know if you want any changes (i.e., date format, color, size).  I believe your time is correct now.  I really liked 5008 on this page (http://www.clocklink.com/gallery.php?category=DIGITAL) but it didn't have the date stamp as well so I went with this one.

PS, Dweez use the flash embed not the js versions, and I have made the sigs 500 chars long now.

There you go laama. This seems to be an ok method and there doesn't seem to be any descernable effect on the load time or computer resources.

Ok, I did flash embed for hmed but just c+p'd jackalope's.  I've changed his to flash embed now.

Ok, I did flash embed for hmed but just c+p'd jackalope's.  I've changed his to flash embed now.

It is cleaner code and leaves space for an image or 2 without jacking up the sig characters.  It was good to see that embedding with js also worked though.  Thanks dweez.

I ask as that site makes GMT = GMT+1?  Maybe it's a different GMT than the one Greenwich uses?

On Demonoid my clock is an hour slow, maybe they don't change summer/winter times at the same time as us in the UK(or at all), could be SMF depending on where their based  :-\

I'm referring the the "clocklink" site and I know DST changes from year to year, but GMT is surely GMT?  This forum does run from the time on the server but you could set the overall offset in the settings here.  No point now as it may screw everyone's times up.

That's why you have to opt in AJ, as only senior managment can use the HTML tag and we wouldn't mess with your sig without approval.  So you want one then? and how far ahead of GMT are you?

(Man, I'm to baked and hung over to read the headline... Or maybe the mass-PM nonsense got the better of me... LOL)

CET...

think that goes under -1, or something like that...

Maybe same one Dweez has, or something...

There should be adequate space behind the maiden-SIG...

yeah, when you select the clock design you want, you can customize the date and time however you'd like...

btw, how the heck do i insert the time thingy?? I tried inserting this code into my signature and it just makes a link
Code: [Select]
[flash=192,16]http://www.clocklink.com/clocks/5003-orange.swf?TimeZone=EST&Place=&DateFormat=yyyy+/+mm+/+dd+DDD&TimeFormat=hh:mm:ss+TT&[/flash]
I also tried putting the actual code that the site provided and it didn't work either

atomicrabbit, actually you couldn't have done it yourself since only smokes and I have permission to post HTML.  In the future, if you make any changes to your signature (and profile...anything on that page of your profile settings), just hit smokes or I up on PM and we'll fix it for you.

Wow, that was spooky as I hadn't seen your post yet smokes when I made mine.

As for requests, if you want it and I can do it, you can have it.

Just for the record, at least that particular one can be resized, you just have to change in the code yourself.  See my current one for an example, it's set to 15x15.

And if possible, ad it behind my maiden sig...

Neither needs to be centered...

That was the first clock I used when I was trying to get this to work, and it hadn't shifted at 100x100 so I gave up on it.  I realise now that it is only the height measurment that has to go below certain ratio to make any difference as is probably only 60px to begin with.

And if possible, ad it behind my maiden sig...

Neither needs to be centered...

What do you mean "behind" AJ, we don't use divs?

Oh and I wanted to stay away from the more fancy clocks, as if we all had them I would guess it would effect the pages.

And it does effect the pages. When Im on the "kneetop" I have a slower loading rate. It doesnt bother me but I didnt notice the difference in timing.

The comp I use for the net is fairly low spec and flash sites go from making the page stutter, to grinding it to a standstill.
