This problem is partially discussed in a thread on the Noid but only partially, plus after googling it I realized i couldnt find what i was looking for. :-[
If any one can shed light on the subject I'd really appreciate it: :)
=====================================================================================================
Its a Torrent of Fallout 3 ~ 5.8 GBs plus and update of ~ 360 mb. I need to burn it to DVD-R 4.7 GB (obviously 2 are
required). How do i split/span the ISO (5.8 GB) into 50/50 or 60/40 so i can burn it in two parts to 2 (4.7GB) DVD-Rs
together with the update of ~360 Mb on the 2nd DVD, and be able to reunite the ISO later on my PC to play it.
=====================================================================================================
Why not mount it with Demon-tools or Alcohol and play it? Because i want to store it on DVDs so I can use it later
(have a crowded HDD plus there is the eternal danger of losing data if you dont have it backed up ).
I'm not a complete Nooby, but iI have never burned images larger than the capacity of a DVD-R 4.7 GB. I have ImgBrn,
but if you guys use any other software and recommend it, I'll gladly use it :).
Thanx. 8)

PowerIso will let you split a maximum image file size of up to 64GB. But I haven't tried to split anything, it's pretty straight forward to use.
The program it's self is just over a 1mb, you know where to find it. ;)
Hope this help.

I was going to suggest powerISO as well. Very good app, and it gets the job done well.
Just a suggestion but, why don't you just burn everything on a dual layered disc?
-
I detest PowerIso but I've been doing the "t" thing for a long time and have no clue why another archive format was even needed.
-
at the moment i have a box full of SLs, and i'll have to go buy the DLs which is waaay to HARD :P :D,
they had strange things in the reviews about PowerIso, like it corrupts the DVD drive or the drive wont work when you un-install it? ??? i mean that cant be serious right?
-
They're actually really easy to use once you know what to do :)

I've been using PowerISO for three years now, and none of my drives have ever been corrupted :-\
You probably saw it, but someone on Demonoid suggested doing a split .rar archive.
As long as all you want is a backup for storage, this would work perfectly.
Just fill one disk with part of the archive, then put the rest on another disk.
Whenever you want to access the backup, just copy and paste all of the archive into
a folder onto your computer and extract it :)

I use Daemon. Load them up and use my regular nero program to convert. whatever works for you I guess
-
couldn't you compress the files into 1 dvd. :-\
dvd shrink springs to mind.
i've never burn't games so am unsure if this will work
-
I think DVDshrink is only for movies :-\
PowerISO and MagicISO both have options to compress files as well.
I dunno if it'll get things small enough to fit on one disc though :-\
If you're looking to play the game from the DVD you've burned, you could
always use a Dual Layer DVD (as long as your burner supports that) :-\
:-\

that would seem the best solution.

DS have you found a solution to your problem that suits you best yet. Let us know the outcome.

Thanx guys! & indie, here's what i found/suits best for me:
ISO ~ 5.8 GB > WinRar > Archive > Split > Volumes > ImgBrn > onto 2 DVD-Rs SL 4.78 GB ~ each.
So, problem solved.

Cool. Glad it worked out for you :)

one last thing:
the basic thing in this query was the splitting, WINRAR can do it, but even with a powerful pc(loads of ram and processor), the archive splitting takes a good 3-7 minutes. I tried many splitters and i have found this one:
HJ Split
www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/
hjsplit.en.softonic.com/
its a very reliable and FAST splitter and joiner plus its very small. Try it!
