I saw that Galaxy Note advertised on TV last night and I did start doing the numbers in my head. Bad thing is I still have some time to go on my present contract before I could get one through that, so I'd probably buy something one cash and used my Defy as a spare.  I might leave it while and see what else is on the horizon.

You people get excited about telephones?

Geez. Get a life.

[posted from my iPhone 4S 64 Gb. White]

I can't speak for others, but I need something to get excited about as the novelty of kids has worn off.

I'm more than happy with my iPhone.  I'm not a "mac guy" but I got an iPhone 3G several years back and it did everything I needed/wanted it to do.  Upgraded to the iPhone 4 shortly after it came out and have continued to be happy.  I'll probably upgrade to the iPhone-du-jour whenever this one seems too slow for me.

I am hoping tmobile will get the iphone since they are updating their networks. From what I've read they have lost about 700000 because they havent gotten the iphone. tmobile did say they had no plans to get the iphone though , so I dont know.

I want one with loads of buttons.  I don't like it when the end-call button is the same button used for the power switch.

The telephone I most want is a Nokia N900.  My friend has one, but he doesn't deserve it.  I hate him.

The Internet says that the USB port on the Nokia N900 isn't fixed securely, and is therefore likely to break off.  That's why I'm not ever going to buy one.

Unless I can get one for about £20 ($5).

Old but best place to post
Well as i inherited a Galaxy s2 (gt19070) tweaked it and updated the o/s.
I have decided to sell my Ipod 32gb classic and 32gb Ipod touch 3rd gen as The phone does the same thing and why should i carry 2 items around with me.Unfortunately i can only put a 32gb micro sd card in but i can live with this as how much music/audio books do you need on a card.
Using Sony media-go to govern the transfer of all music audio books and photo's.Easy to use and I can also govern my kids Blackberry music transfer and such.
So impressed with the Samsung I would consider a newer version eventually when prices come down and the size as well lol.
Have found if your careful with the installation of apps then the battery life isnt too bad.

so tmobile has the iphone now and it comes in different colors now to. but I'm not excited and I dont want one anymore, I do think I want the galaxy note 3. I probably dont need something that big but we've started to use the phone as a gps ( which is way better then our old one trick pony gps ). its suppose to come out this oct. and so is nexus 5. another cool phone and its cool to me because you can customize the color of your phone is the moto X

goldie, are you saying you used your iPod touch as a telephone?  I'd heard of Chinese nationals jailbreaking them and using them for that purpose.  I have an ancient 6G 3rd Generation one that is gathering dust, mostly because I don't listen to music as I once did when I commuted.

galaxy note 3
I have a Galaxy Note (GT-N7000).  I like the big screen, but I don't like the Android 4.1.2.  I find the Gingerbread version of Android easier to use.

The main problem with the larger screen is that you cannot go back to a smaller screen afterwards.  I look at my sister's tiny iPhone 4S and I say "what is that?  2 inches?  No, you get a life, madam!  I'll kill you!"

It took me a while to realise Android version names are alphabetical in order.

That's promising.  I just added google voice.  So far, I've been able to call my husband and can hear him talk, but I can't figure out how to talk to him.  Next stop, skype.  I'm really interested in using the computer for telephone interactions and need to figure out the logistics.

Purchased from http://digitalplayworld.co.uk/index.php/ (http://digitalplayworld.co.uk/index.php/) in the end.
Came rooted and no dodgy chinese apps installed.
Excellent service , spoke to him and he advised me which to buy. This wasnt hard as i was waiting for this phone to come back in stock.

Nice background image goldshirt.

Regarding what phone I am using, I use a Sony Xperia acro S.  It was da bomb in 2012, but like computing in the 80's it was obsolete an hour after I bought it.  It has a walkman on it.  It plays my music very well.  I have 16GB onboard storage memory (11.25GB actual) and a 32GB MicroSDHC card (29.8GB actual) for putting in the MicroSD slot included on the phone.

Firmware is supposedly the reason for such huge discrepancies between the advertised capacity and the actual capacity, but I don't believe it.  If firmware takes up so such memory, then make the things that much larger and deliver the customer what is advertised.  What I believe is happening is the companies know that the average computer users counts 1K as 1000 not 1024, and take advantage of this fact.  Whatever.....

No with that out of the way, I got a usb flash drive with a regular usb plug on one end and µusb plug on the other.  I can plug it into my phone or any other device with a micro usb socket and transfer files to the device.  Handy in numerous situations.
BUT, here is the deal maker, it was advertised as 32GB, and it is actually 31.6GB...*Shock* *Horror* *Amazement* the firmware actually takes up a realistic amount of space, not gigabytes for details of how to say hello and introduce itself!
Amicroe is the brand and it's useful for so many reasons, not to mention the extra 3-4GB it has compared to an average 32GB stick.

Back to the phone, it's an android phone running on 4.2.something and the phone handles it well enough for my usage, but I am not trying to edit video, run a network or play 3D FPS's on my phone, so power users and masturbaters may need something more this month than the Arco S.

Might upgrade mid 1st Q next year.

"usb plug on one end and µusb plug on the other" so a usb to mini usb ?
Agree on the capacity comment.

I dont mind Google on my phone as i sync everything from pc to phone and visa versa.Great for calender and phone numbers.
I wouldn't consider myself a power user.Photo's / Music / news apps ets O and phoning people. ;D
My phone came rooted so i have more control over what it does.
Had to increase volume in the engineer settings and improve gps  pick up , other than that I love it.
I wont be changing it until it goes bang.

I must say though that after 12 months i fancy putting Liquid Smooth os on it

I used to wonder what the directory named [usbdisk] was reserved for, now I know ;D

I am curious about mobile computers and am pretty keen for the platform to mature, I am old and would like to see the stuff we were promised was the future of the 1990's before I die ;)
I've got this old phone I might root just for the exercise but I would prefer to put the hours into playing video games it seems!

I've looked and looked and looked for their product outside of Australia with no luck, which is a shame really.  There is a Canadian arm of Amicroe, but they don't have the same products at all.  it would be nice if there was some service that buys the foreign product and sends it to you, like amazon but better.

Title: Re: Cellphones 2012

The jump from 32GB to 64GB changes the filesystem needed (32GB usually goes with standard FAT32 while the jump to 64GB uses exFAT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exfat)) so I'd make sure your phone can read exFAT before purchasing them if you plan to solely use them with your phone.

after a quick shop around no it doesnt support exfat.

just ordered a 32gb stick, it'll do the job

As per all phones , love or hate. well review on the web
http://www.trustedreviews.com/google-nexus-5_Mobile-Phone_review (http://www.trustedreviews.com/google-nexus-5_Mobile-Phone_review)

go for the biggest memory as cannot expand.
Pricey for what you get but unsure how much where you are.
you can buy better for cheaper, but its a personnel choice.
I love android as it is so customizable .

I have this one http://digitalplayworld.co.uk/index.php/brand/iocean-x7-elite-5-fhd-screen-with-443ppi-2gb-ram-32gb-rom-1-5ghz-quad-core-mt6589tcpu-13mp-camera-android-4-2-smartphone.html (http://digitalplayworld.co.uk/index.php/brand/iocean-x7-elite-5-fhd-screen-with-443ppi-2gb-ram-32gb-rom-1-5ghz-quad-core-mt6589tcpu-13mp-camera-android-4-2-smartphone.html)
