dweez needs a UK favor
« on: February 13, 2013, 03:40:11 PM »
My brother recently re-bought Marvel Alliance 2 for Playstation and when he went to get the DLCs/Add-on packs, he found the ones he wants are no longer sold by the US Playstation store (Capcom bought the rights and evidently are being douches) but they are available on the UK Playstation store.  He set up a new Playstation store account and said he was UK but because he tried to purchase them with a US credit card, it still failed.

I was wondering if smokester, goldie, or any other of the members from the UK could do me a big favor and purchase me a 10 pound UK Playstation Store card and PM me the code on the back.  I can transfer money to the good Samaritan's PayPal or whatever account.

Of course I could do that for your bro'.

May be tricky tonight s I am cooking twice and then watching a movie with the missus. If she nods off (as usual) I may be able to sort it later.

Good deal man.  I told my bro it could take a couple days.  Thanks!

Ok. It seems these things aren't that easy to order as Amazon didn't have one yet and many of the deals  that supposedly existed when searching, didn't.  Another thing is they seem to come in £25 and £35 denominations, however, I found a site that will give you £5 reduction off  one purchased from Sainsburys (one of the top 3 supermarket chains here) and they do have them available.  I'm not sure how long it would take to arrive as the weekend is nearly upon us.  Shall I order one as you'd get £25 for £20?  The alternative is I pick one up from a "Game" store tomorrow and that'd be for a £25 minimum I believe.

<edit>Scratch that, the deal expired a while back it seems.</edit>

£25 is fine (or if the deal mishca found is still valid).  To be honest, I didn't even know if they had £10 cards or not, he just said the stuff he wanted came to £9 and change.

Whatever is most simple for you.  If he has to wait awhile, it's not biggie.

Why are they charging nearly £14 for a £10 voucher?  That's a 40% markup which is ridiculous in my opinion.

I think the £25 and £35 denominations are the physical cards you scratch to reveal the code, and other amounts are online only.

I just discovered the "Game" in Wandsworth has closed, so I'll have a ring round and find where I can grab one.

It's also possible your brother's PlayStation will reject the dlc if it is region locked.

I think Plystation store allow a re-number of downloads of the same item item.
doesnt he know someone who would trust him to put their account on his PS3 for a download of wanted add on ?
I have a account on mine and sons PS3 so i can download the additional packs for both of us.

Not to get too far off topic but I want to throw in my 2 bits about Capcom; they are douches. I found their games unplayable on PC (Resident Evil, for example) and they don't seem to give a damn about accommodating their PC-user customers.

Steam will flat out ban you if they find out you're buying out of region. I used to buy games for brits all the time, now I'm squeamish.

The reason being, to combat piracy in certain regions, steam was selling games for steam sale level prices. They found out people in the $50 region were buying games for $2, and punished them for doing so. This reminds me of how in San Diego we pay out the ass for gasoline, simply because they can.

I found that I can buy a £12 one fairly locally at a HMV store.

I might be able to grab it tomorrow if my household Gas check gets done early.

We have a bit of a problem here.  I went to the HMV store today but they told me they cannot sell the PS Network cards or any cards or vouchers for that matter, on account of HMV currently being in "administration".  They then directed me to a WH Smiths which had £20 ones available, but before I purchased it I asked if I could mail the code and if there would be any problems using it overseas.  The directions on the back of the cards seemed clear enough although did not mention anything about out of country use, but when I told the assistant I was forwarding it to someone in the States, she looked a little concerned and said she thought that could definitely be an issue and remarked that on the front of the card there was a Union Jack which she took as only for the U.K.  She suggested I research it beforehand as they could not refund the purchase if it didn't work over there.

What should I do now?  Is there a way of confirming whether this is going to work or not?

I would say dweez's brother when using the card would be directed to the uk store to download the add on.
I think that is.

The cards are like these and I can see that it clearly states:

Quote
Product Description

Please note this code will only work on UK PSN accounts. Once your order has been despatched it can not be refunded so please ensure you will be using this code on a UK PSN account and store

I think we do have a problem.

I read that thread and at one point it links to this site:

http://www.pcgamesupply.com/buygames/sony-playstation-network-cards/

It says "any region" cards and dweez may be able to get the £16 from that site himself at just a couple of pounds extra.

I can always grab the one from Smiths if dweez thinks it's worth the shot.

He researched the web for this and set up an a UK PSN account.  He found sites he could buy UK cards from but thought they were shady so I told him I'd try and do it this way first.  Is pcgamesupply a respectable site?

It's the site listed in the last post of the thread that Goldie linked to.  The member of that forum isn't spamming and his input looks valid, so going by that, I'd say the site is ok.

As I mentioned though it isn't that hard to get them locally, it's just that disclaimer that bothers me.  If pcgamesupply guarantees them, then they may refund if there's a problem.

Why don't you drop them a line beforehand and check whether it's going to work.  If they walk you through the procedure, then I could still buy the one from Smiths anyhow.

I'm fairly sure my bro has done his research and, disclaimer not withstanding, it should work fine since he set himself up a UK account.  I'll give him that link and ask him what he'd rather do.

Update: My brother was able to purchase and download the DLCs but turns out, even though it let him download them, they can only be used with the UK version of the game...so NOW he's on the hunt for that.  Lol.  Thanks again for all your help guys.

Dude, I am so sorry for you and your brother, PSN is as predatory as the other "direct download" providers. It's a scam to cut back on disk burning and maximize synergy.

And yeah, then they pull the region horseshit.

And all of them do this. It's not Capcom being scumbags, it's the bless'ed lawyers.

A few months back, Rockstar had to pull Vice City off Steam because Sony Music Entertainment had no idea that Vice City would still be popular now. When they found out rockstar was porting it to cell phones, they threw a fit and demanded the Michael Jackson music be removed.

So rockstar had to put out a new, Michael Jackson free version of vice city.

bless'ed LAWYERS.

Lawyers are driven by people that have money.  Blame them.
And there is no way I would give more than ten dollars, (I own four ps3 games) to ps3 network for a digital piece of their pie.  I will only buy discs, so that I may play regardless of my ps3 dieing, I will still have a disc.  Also, I only paid 10 dollars in a couple different instances where I needed an account online to play the game.  Otherwise, I would never give them money, especially not to download their games, and not actually own the game.
On the flip side of this nonsense, I have given LOTRO, or Turbine, my money.  baaahh.
