I use my PS3 for watching Blu-ray movies.
Any recommendations for movies that blow you away with the picture and sound quality differences between Blu-ray and standard DVD.
-
I'm still using 8mm and an old sheet stapled to the wall. Can't wait till we get something to hear it with.
-

Don't plan on replacing the DVD's I have with Bluray, but there are some that I will.
Always looking for a bargain. ;D

I need to follow a lorry that has really shonky back doors, it's the only way I'm getting Blu-Ray. :-\
-
I have a PS3, but my TV is a bit too old to see a difference between dvd and blu-ray :-\

You're the man!!! I cant relate to blue ray without a superior TV.n Seriously!! I dont need that image in my home. Literally everyone I know has a nightmare story to tell about their NEW TV imaging system. No matter what kind it is. It f*&%s up and costs a fortune to repair...........Ill wait thank you.
-
that's bad about the TVs.
i don't know about anyone personally that's had trouble
you do need a strong signal to get a good picture.
-
I don't have a PS3 or have watched an entire movie in Blu-ray, but I'm pretty sure Blade Runner would look damn awesome in 1080p.
-
maybe maybe not.
its a pretty old film anyway so i'm not sure.
depends on the quality they can impose on the film.
i have been looking at one to buy though
-
Only have an .avi of Blade Runner, I will add it to my wishlist.
-
let us know of the quality ;)

It is my suspicion that flat screens are not built to last, they are only meant to last 10 years at best. I still have a CRT from 15 years ago and it is showing no signs of wear and tear and is big enough but doesn't spoil me. I am going to buy a HD flat screen soon but only as I need some more space in the living room. But as for a PS3... I have only had a PS2 since this August just gone :-\
-
A lot of people don't realize that the plasma screen TV's have small gas canisters in them that need replaced every so often.
The LCD one I have say's it's good for 37,000 hrs of viewing, haven't bother to work it out in years.

A little over four years of viewing.
Plasmas are also prone to burn in
-
unfortunately nothing is built to last these days
-
i've never watched anything in blu-ray yet and i won't be able to afford a blu-ray player in the near future.
-
^ get a PS3 ;)

It will play .avi files from a disc or memory stick.
-
cool
-
eragon is worth watching on Bluray.
Maybe I should have called this a PS3 thread, but another feature of it is that it upscales to 1080p.
Watching The Lord of the Rings trilogy, you can count the scales on the Nazgul.
-
missed you all at the weekend, sooooooo busy >:(
you should put up a tutorial on playing movies on the ps3.
took me nearly all of sunday to play a movie on a psp for my son.
fantastic picture but what a pain in the ass that is.

When I get a chance I will PM you the two folder names you need in the MP_ROOT folder for playing .MP4 and .AVC films and a good prog that only takes 1/2 hr to convert any film from disc to psp. ;D

I figured it was a typo but Ctrl+F would only search the current page. You are far better off using the search facility above for references.

Where you choose which page to read, you can choose ALL and see every comment in the thread.
Still. Dark Knight.

I'm not quite set up for BR just yet, I have a PC made out of spares hooked up to my TV atm, it's a little bit noisy atm... going to get an HTPC case at some point and then a BR drive and I'm away.
Sunshine will probably be one of the first due to my obsession with Underworld.
-
sunshine on blue-ray is a visual treat.
i would recommend it totally
-
For sure, the audio is a big deal for me also John Murphy & Underworld.. Although there are hints of "No/Echo From Space" by Jack Dangers in there which is also a good thing.
-
surround sound is a must.
i watched it last week and just get lost in the movie .
one of my top 10 .

Another one for the wish list.
Your PS3 is compatible with 7.1, don't know if another 2 speaker in the middle of the room will make that much difference. :-\
-
The audio setup I have have planned is gonna cost a few grand, the one I have is pretty good just 2.0 though but it is just intended for music...
-
The LCD TV I have has TruSurround XT, but I think I like my speaker set up better. :-\
-
I've got an LG 32" 720p something or other.
Audio set up is the higher end of mid range atm but I'm going for something a little more custom.. Audio in (PC/Decks/whatever)> Mixing desk> Individually amped studio speakers.
-
Do you watch stuff on TV straight from the PC.

Sometimes, HD rips... The case I have atm is a little bit noisey but I also use the PC to play games via an Xbox controller which is nice.
-
I bought a PS3, which at the time was cheaper then most BluRay players, but I play games as well.
With the USB ports and the fact it will play .AVI's from disc or mem stick, it was a good buy.
-
How much are blue-ray players now days??
About ?140, Readers for PC though are around ?50
-
That would make more sense if it was in $ lol
About $545.060 East Caribbean Dollars , Readers for PC though are around $194.812 East Caribbean Dollars

"Roommate" at your age? How are you ever going to get regular sex if your don't have your own pad? :)

It's just Circuit City's brick and mortar stores that are closing. Their online store will stay open. Also, I've heard of some of the stores pulling a scam. They mark their products up, then mark them like 40% off. Just be sure to do your research when purchasing from them.
