New BBC countdown tag.

(1/3) > >>

smokester:
I have installed an extra little BBC tag that may be fun to play around with and here is a description and tips on how to use it.

The tag is called "countdown" and it's purpose is to give you and active counter that counts down to a specified time, at which point the counter will reveal the text you entered between the tags.  It is not secret text as I presume quoting the post would reveal the text so you will probably need to put the word "Expired" or "Time's up" to show a game has ended.  I am going to pilot it in the mini stumper game but you could use it to bump a thread I suppose? - you could always give 24 hours for someone to post a guess (whether correct or not) if you feel a game of yours is being ignored.  If no guess is offered you could then claim the points or something but if this is to be implemented it will be up to you lot to thrash out the details.

Here is the tag and where to find it:

And this is how it works:
The format for the tag is: ( month - day - year - time ) so it will look something like this [countdown=2,11,2009,21,00]Timed out[/countdown] This will time out at 9pm GMT on the 11th February but should recalculate depending on your own clock setting (please make sure your local time is right if you use it).  I will copy the code and use it below so you should be able to work out if is working ok.

Test run:  [countdown=2,11,2009,21,00]Timed out[/countdown]

PS. I did not script the code for this tag myself, so don't blame me for the spelling mistakes.

Sounds interesting...

All you really need to do is copy the blue code from my original post and change the date and time accordingly.  I had to check back as I had forgotten whether it was day or month first and I'll probably copy and paste my own example from now on too :)
