earth hour vs water hour..?
« on: April 01, 2012, 02:44:38 PM »
Is it just me, or does this not make sense?

Earth hour I can get, large part of town goes black, raises awareness, etc, etc...

But leaving your facet alone... FOR ONE HOUR... how exactly does this magically clean the water in a 3rd world nation???

Don't get me wrong, helping developing countries is Nice and good, but "water hour" is just silly, IMHO...

I don't think I've heard of water hour.  I suppose it's also just for raising awareness.  Leaving the taps alone for an hour seems a bit too easy.

This website seems to suggest you think about or discuss water usage on the day: http://waterhour.org/

I don't think I can take it seriously either.  Maybe when I have children or something.

Water hour can only be a short lived stunt in my opinion as it is:
a) pretty pointless
and
b) completely pointless.

Earth hour on the other hand does have the possibility of becoming a socially accepted way of living, forcing the majority to fall into line else face the scorn of their peers. If that happened it would make a tremendous difference overall and I'd probably sign up willingly - long term that is.

Have a nice day, I had one yesterday with my little "water hour" concept.

lots and lots of people bought into it, including you two.  ;D

I concede that I initially gave it merit and got "done" by the AJ, but I didn't really buy into it as such hence my comments above.  I think I may have, just about, got away with it. However, I believe I can see some egg on Chek's chin.

* dweez raises his hand

He got me.  Honestly though, I wouldn't put it past some of these moronic groups to try and organize something like this.

Lost me at "facet".

I love it when someone gets the last word in first.
