Nice choice of words ::)

It wasn't your post that got the thread deleted, it was a latter one that exploited the fact that if you are going to insult a country, you might as well go the whole hog.  Your post stood up to that point so calm down, have a spliff and come back when you see reason.

He's talking about me. Voiced my opinion, tried to show my perspective, and backed out. The rest is history.

Nope, had nothing to do with you.  It was someone far more divine that put the cat among the pigeons - rightly so, probably.

Did I upset someone?

Oops, sorry.

[I wondered where that thread went: will someone bring me up to date?]

Not much to tell Christ, the thread just mysteriously disappeared - although I think it had something to do with the Bulgarians.

Holidays rattle real life dysfunctional families (and sometimes even functional families), and on line families alike.

Luckily, it did not explode there like it did here, although I did have to edit out some derogatory remarks posted by Gee about this site.

Gee, this PC argument has been carrying on for too long here and the Den. If you are a guest in someone's house, it is common courtesy to show respect and honor the wishes of the master of that house, regardless of whether you particularly agree with them or not. You would expect others to show you the same respect if they visited you in your home would you not?

Political Correctness has gone mad and over the top but
forums are multi cultural and multi national so unless you wish
to piss people off then be aware of the differences.
its not hard.

i found this link http://www.metafilter.com/95963/Welcome-to-the-Evil-Federated-Empire-of-Europe (http://www.metafilter.com/95963/Welcome-to-the-Evil-Federated-Empire-of-Europe)
with various maps. i wont post any but you can make your mind up yourself.

It did not really explode here, it was more that someone pointed out in a "work it out for yourself" kind of way, that if you allow insults toward one particular country - tame as they may be - then you have to allow all kinds of insults to all nations regardless of how humourous/insulting they are.  The later images that bust the thread were akin to what Goldie posted which would also have been removed in this post had they been displayed and not linked to.

Personally I do find some of it funny but If I thought I was laughing at someone else's expense, then it would certainly cease to be amusing.

If you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day.

If you teach a man to fish, he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day eat for life.

... but none are so blind as he that will not see.

The problem with being able to fish is: every now and then the chippy is easier and more convenient.

Interesting, this weekend has caused a lot of drama around sites and irc channels.

That's why I left IRC altogether, I hate online drama and disrespect and IMO, it's harder to moderate what's already said and done in real-time versus a forum post.

I am still at IRC,sometimes things can go very dirty depending channel and how staff members tolerated various things.

There is no return after hitting enter makes IRC sometimes very shitty place.
