Really boring today (it being Sunday and all) with simple roast chicken thingmabobs for everyone and nut cutlets for me, and steamed carrots, broccoli and yorkshires to accompany.
Dessert was toffee mouse with bananas and a tin of fruit cocktail added, topped with grated chocolate.
what the heck are nut cutlets? .. are they like soy patties?
Do you buy them or do you make them yourself? They look very good. I'd like to try them but they don't exist here.
I make my own soy patties bc ready made ones tend to be too dry and thin.
Do you buy them or do you make them yourself?
There's a recipe for them here (http://www.gourmetbritain.com/recipes_entry.php?item=387).
Never tried it so don't know if it's any good.
Bratkartoffeln
What a good idea Skadi! I'll try adding black beans. It might add moistness and sweetness too. Sometimes I add bulgur or lentils to soy patties.
My husband could live on that dish only.well we would get along just fine ;D
I use black beans for lots of things.
Monday I did cook Salmon. Tuesday ate out Mexican food. Last night, cooked cheeseburgers, red bean and rice, and spinach salad. Tonight since I have a snow day off and extra time, I'm cooking a brisket, mashed potaotes and gravy, green beans, and fresh strawberries.
And what time shall I be coming over for dinner? ;)
dinner:roast pork, black beans and yellow rice. my niece was totally loving the crispy back fat of the pork roast. Ooh and we had tostones with garlic oil sauce.Roast pork and tostones! I just drooled. :-[
Crispy pata for dinnerYUM!!!!! :P I swear I'm such a pork fiend.
Tonights dinner was hot and sour soup, dim sum, fried rice, Chinese broccoli and bok choy w/ beef.
Dessert was coconut pudding and fried sesame seed balls.
the flu I was suffering has legged it.
mince pies for pudding with some Mango yoghurt.
Mince meat with mango yoghurt? Don't get me wrong, I'm not critizicing, just trying to understand.
...but he says that about every dessert he eats.
Sounds like a feast!I know! It was a little indulgent for a weekday. :D After much consideration, my sister bought a new car (her 9 year old car had nearly 200,000 miles on it) and we had been in the dealership for hours that day, so we were really, really hungry.
Tonight I am making a simple penne with tomato sauce - mainly because I am worn out from working and I can make that with minimal effort.
Thanks God I have some wine left.
Not sure whether to have a red or white along with that
Poutine.different
Last night I made a Cholley (Punjabi) for us while the kids had a ready meal of their choice (they both opted for spaghetti and meatballs). I made our curry and served it with a light biryani (half biryani half plain rice mixed together) and did some onion parathas too although those were frozen ones made by Taj.
Washed it down with a bottle of red although I can't remember what grape and the bottle's out in the recycling now. All in all it was a lovely meal and made the missus very happy.
I need to find someone who cooks. I hate cooking and this thread reminds me of what I gave up.
Today was dinner/lunch at my mum's. She did some fantastic smoked salmon salad for starters, and for main, she did a very original cous cous with roast chicken for everyone, with these massive potato wedges baked in olive oil. There was also some tzatziki to accompany and instead of chicken she did some poached haddock with leeks and ginger for me.
Dessert was a lemon posset with strawberries, and there was a couple of bottles of bubbly to wash it all down.
And no washing up!!!
last night i went to a french ish restaurant
Caf? Roug? .
I had lardons
What's a yorkshire?
My father brought helado (gelato ice cream) but HAD to put passion fruit flavor in it. WHY?! :'( :D

I'm trying to trim my waist to what it used to be.

...I have had some onece that was quite overcooked and was a bit like stringy tofu...
My husband: "Honey, I need to lose weight. Please tonight just salad and/or soup". And then he goes and eats a chocolate alfajor for dessert.
Scratch the above, I'm going for a risotto instead.
So, it's the dreaded Maccy Ds for dinner...
What do you eat? You being a vegetarian are in more trouble when you go there.
I'm not deterred though. I have a bunch of other stores near me where I can hopefully find a better brand before trying to make it myself.
OMG had fried squash flowers with ricotta.
french onion soup.
Tempura prawns
Last night: Gnocchi di papate ai quattro formaggi. My 2nd favorite dish in the whole world.
Like this-

bon appetit.com has some good recipes and marthastewart.com

Nothing. I'm alone at home (kids and mom are far, far away) and I'm not in the mood to eat.cocktail = fruit maybe ∴ food , all solved ;D
Unless vodka cocktails count.
I used to eat the hell out of fresh veggies....I need to get back to that.
Last night the family wanted an English fry-up for dinner (although most of it was grilled). So I obliged by giving them: Sausages, Bacon, Tomatoes, American style chips/fries, Beans (with onion and peas (I do that to get some vits in)), and Eggs. I had some Quorn ham as a substitute for the meat and all in all it was a real treat and tasted fantastic.so wrong , but its making me peckish
English cuisine may be a little boring and unadventurous, but by heck it's comforting.
a home made chicken Dopiaza curry with Bismati rice and home grown chilli's :D

Fungi Trifolati
This reminded me of a way I prepare mushrooms when I can get hold of big Champignons, Portobello or Porcini.
I cut the stipes, cut them small and sautƩ them in oil+butter with garlic and green onions. Then I fill the caps and put them in the oven. They're heaven.
^ I don't now which one of you I envy more. It's 19:45 I still don't know what are we going to eat. And I'm drinking beer on an empty stomach.other way around, i envy you ;D
other way around, i envy you ;D
I don't know if I could take my daughter to such a place without having to hear "when are we leaving?" every 10 min.
I just wish I could afford half of the attractions.
Isn't it better to just be able to relax with your family than slave over a hot stove preparing an elaborate meal?
Today is my mum's birthday. I'll take care of the cake but they're dreaming if they think I'll cook much more than that.
it's my son's tomorrow and he will be double digits for the first time.
Aww, he's going to reach puberty soon. Say him happy birthday!
perhaps, watching The Avengers :)
food fights and fun
/me throws food randomly
the biggest disappointment was there was no chocolate dessert :( . how can you not have a chocolate something dessert.
Ah, I'd kill for a chocolate mouse right now...
"mouse" or "mousse"? The former don't really do much to kill a craving. Unless they're rabid chocolate mice.
I did a pie tonight and I put too much salt in it and now I can't stop drinking water.
Chana masala, string beans and potato curry, basmati rice and garlic naan.
home made chili and biscuits :)
i like butter and old cheddar cheese on them, hot out of the oven :)
I have some medical tests tomorrow and tonight I only had a vegetable soup, bread and strawberries. The truly bad thing is I couldn't drink alcohol. :D
Good luck with those tests XT.
Thanks goldie! I've just came back. Two of them had good results. I have to wait for the results of the other 2.
Basil pesto on linguini fini.
As my grandpa used to say: bocatto di cardinale! :)
Spanish, made to sound like Italian, used mainly in Argentina?

potato pancakes tomorrow.
Potato pancakes are shallow-fried pancakes of grated or ground potato, flour and egg, often flavored with grated onion or garlic and seasoning. Potato pancakes may be topped with a variety of condiments, ranging from the savory (such as sour cream or cottage cheese) to the sweet (such as apple sauce or sugar), or they may be served ungarnished. Potato pancakes are sometimes made from mashed potatoes to produce pancake-shaped croquettes.[1]

Cheese tortellini with basil pesto. Nom!
I'm English, it's Friday, so dinner will definitely contain fish and potato to some degree.
A little earlier I cooked baked Pollock with lemon, canary potatoes, steamed broccoli and carrots, and a parsley and padano white sauce.
Washed it down with a Wolf Blass Chardonnay.
We'll have dinner at my brother-in-law's (as we do on many Saturday nights with friends in common).
I'm 90% sure we'll eat some kind of antipasto, asado, provoleta (https://www.google.com.ar/search?q=masas+finas&client=firefox-a&hs=7Ui&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=OWA7Ue_TJoiE8ASB_IFw&ved=0CDMQsAQ&biw=1067&bih=541#client=firefox-a&hs=rpN&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=provoleta&oq=provoleta&gs_l=img.3..0l7j0i24l3.1715208.1718302.0.1719841.9.9.0.0.0.0.214.1303.3j4j2.9.0...0.0...1c.1.5.img.ajC2bKlHkjI&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.43287494,d.eWU&fp=2327c55d9a343bc&biw=1067&bih=541) and salads.
I'm 100% sure my brother-in-law will burn the grilled vegetables.
I'm also 100% sure the red wine will be fabulous.
I'm in charge of the dessert tonight and since it's way too hot to cook anything I'll buy either ice cream or petit fours.
All in all a promising evening.
I want your life.
smokes, you can learn to cook.
You can have it now. Cause I have a big headache this morning. :)
Pfft! He probably can teach all of us how to cook.
I probably would have arrived with a hangover.
I actually wanted to be part of your social gathering as it is the real stuff of life.
Almond crusted tilapia with a creamy buttery sauce, fresh berries and fluffy mashed potatoes with ravenswood Zinfandel.
So really it was just home assembled...lol, more or less.
It's like black coffee but alcoholic.
No. Green flash Double stout black ale.SOmetimes, deep down, I am jealous of you.

Green flash Double stout black ale.
Broiled salmon left over spinach pasta sautƩed onions garlic mushrooms and peppers.
I ate a lunchable today and it was disgusting. The best thing was thecold double stuffed oreos. Lunchables used to be my favortie when I was kid.
My husband calls those "Mommie hates me."
We made potato gnocchi with my daughter tonight (and they were superb if I dare say so myself). She kept coming and going from the kitchen to the laptop. I don't want to go see the state of that keyboard. ::);D ;D ;D ;D
Supermarket didn't have hot dog buns. Employee could not help me because she did not speak English. Googled it.
panecillos de perros calientes
I phrased it out, decided nope, and went home.
(Elaboration: That reads back to me as "Bread Roll, The dogs spicy")
But I fear the grill.
mixed green salad w/sunsugar tomatos, avocado and vinaigrette dressing
basil tomato pasta sauce on linguine
pluot/nectarine galette
the need to burn all this off is looming large.
Maybe if I workout every day till December 2014 I'll burn out all the extra calories I ate these hollidays.
Coney dogs for me
Sweat and sour chicken
An acquired taste surely. ;D
scrambled eggs and english muffin :(
Why the sad face? I like that. That's my dinner when I'm alone at home.
seared cod with brown rice, carrots.
I second that, I have an ant problem. I can't get it under control with and killer because of my son, I am too afraid to put it in the kitchen.
But yes, I am going to have to move again.... how the landlord made the ants stay away while we moved in I don't know, I've also had to put mouse traps out.. and Oh, I figure it's because we are actually using the kitchen now, and the ants smell food.
Leftover Stromboli. I was just bless'ed sick of burritos. So I baked all that crap up in a crescent roll dough.
Poor lickle anty wanties. They've got families you know.
....you'll get the idea.
leftovas
Did the canned roast beef and bbq sauce sandwiches again. I drain the absolutely rank fluid it's packed in, fry it up quick in the fry pan, then pour some bbq sauce in it for flavor.
I was strongly against this stuff the first time I saw/smelled it, but is super quick, and it's about two bucks for a 12 ounce can.
I wish xt, it was just the day before left overs.
Yeah, I got it. That's why I added the cheesy face. Silly joke. Sorry. Its okay sometimes jokes go right over my head.
Chicken and bbq sauce sandwiches.
Today it was a bit more healthy as the chicken was prepared fresh rather than can style. That being said, it was essentially the same dinner as last night.
lots of left overs
pesto chicken tenders
left over veggies
fries and onion rings
and macaroni salad.
Shake N' Bake anything used to always taste great when I was kid. Not as amazing as an adult now.
...sourcing dasheen is difficult and expensive, so most of the time I substitute it with cassava.
Sweet potatoes are another "provision" that is a good substitute, but a minute to long in the water and...
the watermelon was not sweet :(
I made angel hair pasta with zucchini, onion, garlic and toasted pignoli. I begin by cooking the vegs in a large paella pan and then toss the cooked pasta into the mix, sprinkle w/pecorino romano. It's quick and easy. The zucchini is julienned into thin strips, onion in small dice and garlic sliced. Once everything is prepped, it goes together quickly and makes a satisfying meal.
What are teen burgers ?hamburger with bacon, lettuce, tomato, onions, and cheese on it, plus the usual condiments. on sale here now for $3, we're in the middle of a pizza and fast food war here, not cool for the waist line ;D
that sounds good but we have a e.coli scare right now. so I am avoiding beef.
Except for the sushi rice...
The news said that the problem was there wasnt a proper place for the farmers or produce pickers to wash their hands after using the bathroom.
Red leaf lettuce salad w/persian cucumber, avocado, fig and home grown tomato and vinaigrette.
Toasted focacia with assorted cheeses, sliced pear. Dessert: apple crisp.
nothing amazing, chicken salad sandwich with fresh spinach and chedder cheese.
smokey, i want some soup,
made Swedish meat balls the other day but they didn't turn out well.
I thought it was too watery so I added cornstarch but I added too much. I tried to thin out but not very good.
I think that chicken tikka masala is actually British food - I'm not convinced that it has ever seen India!
at the moment air sauce and wind pudding
I want to eat at your house!
We will probably have a green salad and some homemade tomato/thyme sauce over pasta. The damn rats ate my first ripe cherry tomatoes of the season, so I'm on the warpath. Wonder how they taste, skinned, gutted and marinated then grilled?
That sounds pretty good, the rat recipe in the video clip.

Makes a change from burgling the homes of well known musicians.
He was a 21-year-old waiter when he stole Mr Youngās Ā£4,000 guitar collection, alongside a prized platinum disc.
Italian-born D'Acampo stood before a judge in 1998, and was sentenced under his real name, Gennaro.
He was caught after his DNA matched tests on cigarette butts he had dropped in the now 53-year-old star's bedroom in Mill Hill, North London.
on naked and afraid this guy went on a rat killing spree and ate rats for most of his 21 day stay on the island. I think he said he tasted it like chicken. Maybe Island rats are cleaner than city rats ? :-[

rainier cherries
The creamy light yellow to medium yellow-orange fruit develops a red blush and is ready to harvest late-June through early-July.
I like them better than the traditional cherries.
let the strawberry's soak in the Pimms then eat, so divine
...with fried egg over medium with thinly sliced shallots and shiitake mushrooms...
That's a whole pastry shop. :)
Talking about calories gone wild:
Last night I did a gratin dauphinoise on steroids (potatoes, cream, butter, sauteed onions, garlic, and 3 kinds of cheese).
For dessert I did something typical from my country. It consists of layers of ladyfingers (savoiardi/ sponge fingers) soaked in moscato wine (Port or marsala work even better but they're way more expensive) and layers of a dulce de leche pudding, and topped with dulce de leche (the more the better). A calorie bomb!
Mixed some mayo in with the ground turkey
I'd think that mix would make the burguers break apart when you cook them. Interesting.
Marinated, Chargrilled Artichoke Heart and Cherry Tomato Salad with Red Onion Confit
Roasted Red Snapper Fillet, Mushy Pea Risotto and Ginger, Chili and Garlic Pak Choi
Homemade Profiteroles filled with Vanilla Ice Cream, topped with Hot Chocolate Sauce
Revuelto Gramajo.
There's no Wikipedia link in English. If someone's interested I'll talk about it.
I was looking at it here:

I found reading about Julio Argentino Roca quite intriguing.
Let me sum it up: he was a bless'ed SOB of the worst kind.
[ot]Yet streets and cities are named after him. ::)[/ot]
Something to do with this?

Because I was yearning for old childhood dinner. I brought a can of beef raviolis and they didn't taste as good as I had hoped.
I brought a can of beef raviolis and they didn't taste as good as I had hoped.
That sounds pretty good, brick. Is the grill easy to clean? I was wondering if the cooking surfaces came off for cleaning.
I can do a thing with loaves and fishes.as long as their from birds eye i'm in :)
I can do a thing with loaves and fishes.
You young 'uns. Can't appreciate the simple things.
Back in the day people enjoyed the food, not the condiments.
The Galloping Gourmet. You are older than you look, padawan.
Fish.;D ;D
After all, it is Fryday.
Got my gal a cooper cook set. I'm waiting on her to make biscuits and gravy. Breakfast for dinner every once in a while.

She has everything? Get her a storage unit.

... or a broad spectrum antibiotic.
The pans wouldn't work on mrs. christ's induction hob.
Not her job.
That's a shame, she might have seasoned the food.
Hey ho.
I'd have to get her a bigger cooker.
To be fair there is only one of him.
Sunday roast today with breaded basa in place of meat.interesting never heard of.
Gardein
could be similar to Quorn
Gardein Crispy Mandarin "Chicken" with onions, celery and basmati rice.
Gardein makes delicious frozen meat substitutes. We like that we can haul them out of the freezer and have a tasty dinner in about 15 minutes. I don't know if they sell this in the UK, but it's worth experimenting with if they do.
I wouldn't have thought that pee protein counted as vegetarian. Or as palatable, for that matter.
Haddock and chips all round at our local chippy. Not forgetting the mushy peas and a curry sauce.quality :)
It was. I think next time I'll keep it simple just olive oil and salt and pepper. But the skin didn't crisp up.
How did you normal cook yours ?
