Title: Things that DIDN'T make you laugh today
Post by: 6pairsofshoes on May 22, 2024, 07:37:15 AM
Surely there's something annoying that your day would have been better without.

I'll start:
Speeding tickets.

I took the unicorn* in to get the TVs fixed - "we will need it all day, sir".
Next day - "you had better plan for us to have it for today as well, sir"
Day three "it may not be ready until tomorrow, thank you for your patience ..."

* my latest Jaguar

I feel that I have betrayed the point of this thread ...

Yes, I laughed today

Day 5: still no unicorn, and no prospect until at least day 8 (Memorial Day weekend).

Stop sniggering at the back.

It must take them a while to strip out all those immaculate parts under the hood, and replace them with old tat they bought from eBay.

Better check the odometer when you get it back.

Better check the odometer when you get it back.

Ha!  That reminds me of a similar plot from Ferris Bueller's Day Off.  The mechanics took the kids' dad's Ferrari for quite the ride.  The velocity is in kph
The kids propped it up and tried running it in reverse to get the odometer to reverse.  The results were catastrophic of course.

Day 8. Still no sign.

This is getting silly.

Let's hope it's taking so long as they're taking special care and attention.

To get that circlip out that they dropped in the block.

Day 10. Still not laughing.

Maybe they're trying to clone it?

I'm beginning to question the existence of said unicorn. I mean, most people imagine them.

Smashed the living daylight out of my Note 10+'s screen yesterday, and it turns out a replacement costs more than the phone is worth.

Not funny but at least it gave me the opportunity to buy the note 22 ultra, which is the nutz of a phone. And only £180 more (B grade) than a screen replacement for my old phone.

Bugger!

Sorry about the death of your phone. I still long for my iPhone 13 that someone preferred to keep as a brick rather than return it for a reward.

ignore the above "cost of repairing campervan"
The mechanics are having trouble removing brake discs due to seizing
Still await the van back and we have had to cancel our night away todat.
Dreading the cost  ??? ???

It turns out that one of the (ridiculously expensive) new bits that they fitted to the unicorn is fried, and they need to replace it (at their cost): I declined to give the car back to them until they have a courtesy car available, as last time was beyond a joke. Thus the unicorn is back off to the garage on 1 July, for an undefined period.

You never know, you may end up preferring the loaner.

That is a theoretical possibility, but there isn't just me to consider: her indoors and the rugrats have to buy in too!

Always pay attention to "her indoors", may be your car but  ??? 8)

Finally retrieved my van after being in the garage for 5 days(weekend included).
The Brake Discs had seized to surrounding faces, so a pulley was used to attempt to separate them but failed, So heat and sledge hammer was used, again failed so heat and the pulley finally worked.
2 young lads working there showed me the video of their attempts and how they they finally managed to remove the disks,  :o :o not something I wanted to watch.
But shows the theory of metal galling perfectly, especially as they showed me the old discs.

All is now well except for the £500. it cost  :'( :'(

Car repairs are expensive.  The regulator in my driver's side window failed and it cost me $500 to get it fixed.  $300 was just for the part.  The entire door had to be taken apart in order to reach it.  Not a great design.  It is nice to be able to open and close the window again, though.

Glad you finally got it resolved, goldie, but ouch!  I'm sure we all could find more pleasant ways to spend the money.

Count yourself lucky. Last year my gearbox, dual mass and my clutch all went at the same time. Cost me £4.5k to get it back on the road.

I know how expensive clutches can be  :o :o.
Hopefully that's it for now 🤞🤞
