Title: Photoshop Tennis Round 1

Many people are looking to improve their photoshop skills (or any photo editing program)  and I have found that the absolute best way to learn is by playing a game!  Over on Demonoid, AlienUK brought us PHOTOSHOP TENNIS! The premise is simple, a group of photoshoppers Or anyone who wants to learn how to photoshop (or any other good photo editing software) take turns in altering an image. Get it? if not see example below.

Rules--

1) ALL content made must be appropriate I mean Diasfora doesn't have many rules, but lets not get carried away!!!  ;)
2) Must stay in the original file size dimensions. 1024 X 768.  If you pick the starting photo, make sure it conforms to that size.  When editing, DO NOT RESIZE! 
2.5) PNG format works best for the videos at the end, so please make sure that when you save your photo work, you save it in PNG format.
3) Each round lasts two weeks.
4) Each turn must change the image from the last turn, but still retain elements from the previous image.
6) After you do your turn you must wait for 2 alters to be made, or 3 hours before doing another alter.
7 ) Once you start editing a photo reserve a spot (post "RESERVED" or something to that effect while you are editing) to make sure no one jumps your post.
9) Reserves last 3 hours. Unless you request extra time, someone, after 3 hours can reserve and start playing.  so if you NEED Extra time, it can be allowed if you are almost done... However, be sure that you make a post saying that.

JH Is there anyway you could go a couple of shades lighter than this? Its gonna be hard to blend in new images with the dark blue. It looks cool though!!

Yeah, that's why I chose such a light color to begin with because it hides some of the seams. :)

Not that I'm objecting to what you did J...  ;)

I was playing a bit, but couldn't get the colors just right, given the splintered lighting effects, so I changed up a smidge!  LOL

So.........whats the status here? Are we continuing with this pic, Is this the finished product, or do we want to back track to an earlier point. Doesnt matter to me just curious. Here is a starting point if anyone chooses "back-track.

Ok I try to explain this for you ohcheap1.

It starts with a picture the next person alters the picture in anyway they like, as long as it retains some part from the picture from the previous post. And on it goes until it is decided that's as far as we would like to take it, then another round will commence.

This does not include back tracking but only a follow on from the last posted picture, hope that helps. ;)

If you wonder where that picture ended up that you just posted look at the tv screen the bloke with the boobs looking at.

Its just the way Photoshop Tennis as always been played. It first came into being to help teach and encouage people to use photoshop and develop there skills. Hope that answers your question it would be a shame to see it change format. You don't have to change most of the picture but the option is there if you feel the need.

I only ask as I even got the lighting right on spidey, and I even considered setting up a quick 3D environment based on the original room to composite a serpent or dragon with shadow and proper lighting effects.  That wouldn't be worthwhile if the work was lost later down the line.  I might start my own "reverse" game, whereby you start with a blank canvas and each artist contributes something to create a final piece of art that can be saved.  I would give some PS time to that.

that sounds like a good idea i'm in.   but a tad busy this will jump in later on next week.  What I like doing with this tennis when time permits is turn it into a video that's something we can keep.


Anyhow later guys bed beckons ;)

edit: what we should do with this game is have a theme each round so it has some form of structure.

Bear in mind that EVERY incarnation is used in the videos at the end... 

If you take a look, particularly at the video from round 4 that we played on demonoid and is in the OP, you will notice that we changed all sorts of things but we used the video to show how it all morphed from one to the next to the next... etc...

I absolutely LOVE playing with this, because It actually FORCES me to become familiar with photo shop and others...

Incidentally,  if you go to youtube and run a search for "you suck at photoshop"  this goof made these videos and they are really eye opening regarding what is possible with these programs!!  Check it out, some of them are also amusing to watch...

I had considered that and I noticed that in the demo video that there is a character composited, and whoever did it seemed to go to the trouble of creating the correct shadow cast too. However, I strained to see it at the resolution and had to not blink while it was there.

I'm not saying that this isn't a good game and good practice for some creative ideas, but your time is surrendered to the game, rather than the final product.

I wanted to replace the dark carpet with a river beginning with a waterfall in back but I couldn't figure out how to manipulate/reshape images.  I think I've figured it out now so after work slows, I'll give it a go (with the latest pic of course).

Not to go on but when I download your picture it's jpg your host is reconverting it not good.
We asked for PNG as theres no compression. I don't know what your problem is with photobucket but all I will say is every picture including yours i have no problem hosting with them.

So that begs a question if I can host your pics on photopucket why can you not???????

Its no big deal really as said it was to keep the pictures compression  free, so each turn is as fresh as the first. Well that was the idea ;)

I like it lol now if only we could get Paul to make subtle changes like that.....we'd have a formidable team ;) Hey Paul got no where with the vid yet bent my external hard drive and now 2 weeks downtime!!!!! will take a turn when i got cs5 up and running should be 5 hours or so. ;)

it took 7 hours to download PS from adobe  >:( as for after effects only works on 64bit ;( that was another 4 hrs download time from adobe. you're edits are just fine Paul just trying to up the anti as i think we can do better and better edits ;) I got ps5 running playing around with the content-awareness tool it maybe me but it don't seem as good as it does in demo's ;(....
