CMF, is Kotio male or female? And I've always loved that muted-amber color...  :)

Dis here's ma boy Butters:

This is the only photo I've managed to take of him where he didn't turn his head the moment I snapped the pic.

Pros: Purrs almost constantly, sometimes so loudly you can hear him across the room. Also likes to snuggle so it's a fantastic combo...
Cons: Will not eat delicious chicken, but will eat a plastic grocery sack like other cats eat delicious chicken.

I have no idea. We found him. He found us, actually.
One night, while I was watching the TV, he scratched on my door, I let him in and, since then, he never left.  :)

My girl Gretta has cataracts in both eyes now and cant really use one of her back legs due to dysplaysia but she still my baby. Her 13th birthday is coming up on February 5th.

Wait till MaxD shows her crew. Fantastic!!

OK if your sure you want to hear this.

My wife works for the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) and everybody in the small village where we stay, knows we are both fond of animals.

Spoiler (hover to show)

It is maybe a good thing that I never discovered who done it as I would have got a longer jail sentence for what I would have done to them, then they would have got for doing what they had done.

Wow, indie that superglue thing makes the mind recoil.  :-\

I mean, it's clear the person didn't want them, but did they have to make sure they didn't have a chance? That's bent up...

But Lucky turned out to be a beautiful cat (I am partial to blackies, by the way).

Basil is awesome. Does he like his tummy rubbed? I would hope so with fur like that...  :D

By the by, I am proud to say that my apartment does not smell like cats.  :)

That's what made me really anger.

If they didn't want them all they had to do was knock on my door. Every animal the wife brings home, even ones that belong to other people I say to her "can we keep it" like a big kid.

A tip for anyone who's cat uses the wallpaper as a scratching post (they are love or hate the embossed stuff), spray citrus air freshener of the wall where they scratch.  ;)

Not really stipulations, more like he'd rather we not have them.  3 of the 7 units here have cats, a total of 10 cats between the three places and they only got to have them cuz they moved in with them.

You all have beautiful animals  :)

Your story is really upsetting, Indie.  I always wonder what kind of person would do
such a horrible thing  >:(

Here's my collection

Aslan:  The regal and crotchety king
(http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/frankcapri/Album%202/Aslan-1.jpg)

Dinah:  The weirdo.  My wife and I doubt if she's even a cat (or from Earth for that matter)

Lucy & Meeps:  The little spy and the big lady respectively
(http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/frankcapri/Album%202/LucyMeeps.jpg)

Peeps & Susan:  The huntress & the queen respectively
(http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/frankcapri/Album%202/PeepsSusan.jpg)

Oops: The punk (this cat is a scallywag and a big fat meanie pants)

Currently we have another cat living in our garage that we call Quacks because his meow
sounds like a duck.  I swear that homeless cats can smell a sucker a mile away  :D

It's not bad at all.  Most of them spend a lot of time outside, and I clean the two litter boxes we have every day.

I was wondering how he can find somewhere to sit :-\   :)

That actually is a bit of problem especially since it's cold right now  :D

Well, at night she stares up at the sky with this vacant look in her eyes, and her behavior is
decidedly un-catlike  ;D

Jack I also thought I would suggest you looking into "plastic bag lite" for butters. (http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/8/8_1_29.gif)

Frank, awesome crew 'o' cats!

Speaking of cat smell a neighbor lady of ours had so many cats that she lets them live in her garage and their litter pan was a hard plastic kids swimming pool!!! She passed away a few years ago and I never did find out what happened to all the kitties. We bacame friendly when she saw us walking our shephard, Gretta. She had a champion shephard too. Beautiful dog. When that dog passed, people in the neighborhood actually went to visit her with their condolences. They were great friends, she and her dog...Lisa and Reesa.

I had one cat, Perkins, who chose me one day while I was out in front of my house. He stuck around until he softened up my folks who let him stay. He turned out to be probably the best cat I ever owned.

In no small part due to the fact that he refused to do the whole 'litter box' thing and preferred to slink of somewhere in the neighbor's yard to do his business. The neighbor had a gaggle of cats already and never tended their yard, so no one was the wiser.

All I know is he never went in the house and I never had to clean up a litter box.

Perkins spoiled me actually...  :D

As far as Butters is concerned, I will not be making it any easier for him to eat plastic.  ;)

And frank, that's quite a lot of kitties, and my favorite so far has to be Dinah, I've been known to stare at the sky and wonder how the hell I got here.

The Punk sounds like he needs a date with a squirt gun...  :D

is he mean to the other cats?

are there many homeless cats in the us?
you all keep saying that you were chosen by some stray cats ...
in my district there are no homeless cats or if so, i've never seen any in 7 yrs !
there are of course cats who are allowed to go outside, but they will just come and cuddle a little before we each go our way.
thinking of it my cousin who lives in another part of town, very close to a big park told me that she had 2 or 3 homeless cats coming into her garden for some time. ..
Title: Re: Post your pets
Post by: frankcapri on January 20, 2009, 05:27:15 PM
is he mean to the other cats?

He's right awful.  All he does is lope around looking for things to punk.
It's his way of life.  Sleep, eat, punk.  When it gets warmer, he's staying outside for good.

are there many homeless cats in the us?

I dunno if every place in the US is the same with cats, but in the place where
I live, there are many, many stray cats.  It's mostly from stupid owners who
don't fix their animals and just let them run loose.  In other cases people move
and just leave their cats to fend for themselves.

My parents and I have a deal worked out with a nearby vet who charges 15-25 USD
for neutering and spaying.  In our respective neighborhoods we've decreased the potential
numbers substantially, but it's a really bad problem in my area.

I don't know if it has changed since I heard this a few years ago, but in California,
cats are legally considered feral animals like possums or squirrels.

It's the same in Scotland.

Hit a dog (they are considered pets) with the car and you have to report it to the police, but not cats the are classed as wild.

Don't know if it's the same in England.  :-\

Title: Re: Post your pets
Post by: frankcapri on January 21, 2009, 02:31:22 PM
It's really sad.  Even if the cat has a collar with a name on it, the person who
hits it isn't legally required to notify anyone  :(
Title: Re: Post your pets
Post by: indie180 on January 21, 2009, 02:38:57 PM
I'm afraid not.  :(

Under the terms of the Road Traffic Act you must report accidents to the police involving Dogs, Goats, Cows, Horse, Ass, Mule, Pig and Sheep. Also an accident involving injury to a person whether in vehicle or otherwise.

But not wild animals  :(

I'm a neat-freak so I can't handle them in my room. That's one less room for me to clean.  ;D I can sleep with them when I sleep in another room with a bigger bed, just not mine. I'm lucky that the cats like to sleep on their cat tree/scratching post or in the FR or LR.

You find it difficult to go on extended vacations MaxDreamer?
No. I have a really cool neighbor that takes care of the cats when I go on vacation and I take care of hers when she goes on vacation. And the dogs get boarded at local kennel.

I finally got to look through the whole thread and have concluded everyone has beautiful pets!  ;D

@ indie, that story about Lucky is horrifying.  >:( One day the people that did that to Lucky will get punished one way or another.

@ Frank, your Aslan looks like my Pudder (Evil-doer#2, having three legs doesn't stop him from causing chaos). And Peeps looks like my Mateo (Evil-doer#1).

They do look similar.  I got Aslan in Fresno, maybe Pudder and him are related  ;D

If you don't mind me asking, why does he only have 3 legs?

They might be distant distant distant cousins or something.  ;)

He was a couple of weeks old when someone found him in a shopping mall parking lot with his right front leg injured. Most likely he was hit by a car. The vet tried to save his leg, but it was too badly mangled to do so. She amputated it from the shoulder blade so he doesn't have a stump/nub. I can attest that he doesn't miss his leg, nor do the other animals notice he's different.

I always had cats up until I was about 30 but have been too selfish with my life after that to take on another one.  All this looking at other people's pets has made me yearn for a little moggy of my own again :'(  Hell I have the space and the back garden and I am a stones-throw from Battersea dogs home (yes they have cats too) so maybe I'll look for one this week :)

This is/was my baby who passed away on boxing day, :'( :'( :'(

the vet asked me have i used any new non stick pans,
i said yes ,and he stated that new pans give off a toxic poison that
can kill birds ,and a breeder lost 8 birds in one day just cooking dinner.

i will never buy another non stick pan  >:(

Was he an African Grey, Lemmings? One of my old roommates had one and that bird was great. Would cling to me and walk around the apartment, sit and watch tv with me, and also pooped everywhere. One downside I guess. That is really good info to know about the "non stick" I had never heard of that before and my sister works for the EPA!! Usually Im the first to hear these kinds of thing. SO sorry, it sucks having to say "Goodbye" to one of your family.

he was always waiting for an opportunity to

peck me,and with a 60lb pressure with that

beak ,i understandably avoided it.

Cute pets, lemmings.  :)

Buster is a boxer, right?  My cousin has one and he is a huge nutty spazz.  :D

I used to have a cockatiel but he died when I let a friend take him of his cage. He got scared, then tried to fly back to his cage but missed the door, flew into the wall at full speed instead and died.  :-[

Thanks lemmings. It happened a long time ago, I still feel a little guilty about it.  :-\

When my cousin used to bring his boxer over to my house when my dog Goliath was alive, my cousin would always comment on how calm Goliath was and why couldn't his dog be like that.  :D Goliath was kind of a snob when spazzy dogs were around him. He didn't like to play with them at the dog park either.  :D

Alright, now that I can take pictures, I can properly show all the animals around 'nyah:

These are my 2 cats, they are literally brothers (meaning they have the same mother, not that they're black - shame on you!) so they've known each other all of their lives. Their birthday was on January 27 so they are now 5 each. Yes, Butters is giving the stink eye because he's being woken up, and yes, Tweek is sticking his tongue out at you.  :) Collectively, thay are known as...

And here's my buddy's dog, Seamus.

He's a very sweet boy, even if he and The Boys haven't become friends yet. He's very smart, but he was abused when he was a pup. One of his ears is 'broken' meaning that it won't stay up, so that's why he looks like that. Reported it was broken by the man who owned him previously who, as the story goes, held Seamus by the collar and smashed his fist into Seamus' head repeatedly.  :-\

I have never owned one of those kinds of cats. The kind that let you do everything to them. My sister has a new kitten, about 6 months old, and my niece literally carries him around like a baby doll. My cats have always been "unless I give you MY permission, you will NOT touch me" hhhhhmmmmm.......come to think of it maybe Im putting off some kind of vib? :)

i always find it interesting how we people in the Occident get all fired up about animal cruelty, not that i'm for it certainly not, but during my stay in india, i've met a lot of indians who would mock about this character trade: they would see that people would get all worked up about the bad conditions of stray dogs, while the people in the surrounding village were very poor and therefore in agony as well. i always thought it's easier to focus on the suffering of an animal than human beings, at least for me it is. seeing a bunch of dogs suffering of scabies and malnutrition and being kicked at if they come to close isn't a nice sight.
i hope you won't all start yelling at me now  ::)

I've seen things similar to that in a few places especially parts of the Caribbean.  I have always thought if I won the lottery I would set up a sanctuary for the animals or something, and it would be the job of the government to look after the people as they are usually the cause of their suffering.

I've always been partial to calicos ..  not sure why ..  I think all cats are cute ..  but when it comes time to pick one out ..I've always gone towards the calico ..

Ive always felt very fortunate that my cats have been able to be indoor/outdoor cats. We have a nice size fenced in yard so the overweight thing has never really been a problem. Not gonna lie, Im sure  on occasion they go over the fence but they are always within ear shot away. And Ive never lost a pet to "the road"  :'(

ohcheap ..  I wish I could have indoor/outdoor cats ....   my first one was ..  we live in an area with lots of woods ..set back from the road .   but still everytime she didn't come home before I went to bed ..I'd be a nervous wreck ..  wondering about the road ..  or about other animals ...   so now my cats are just indoor ones ..   the only drawback is the litter box ...  (btw ..the first one, Izzy, dies of old age ..nothing sinister ..but still scared me ..  I'm a worrier at heart ..)   ;D

^^ You know I thought about this after I posted the above message and truly think I have been very lucky. My first cat I had from birth-22 years (Libby) and she was indoor/outdoor the whole time. Of course in her old age she would only go out when I was with her and she would stay within 2 feet of me at all times. The 2 I have now, I dont know, but when I call them they are inside in less than a minute. Again, luck I think.

I know Panda' has seen these pics before...

This is/was Tabby..

She was my wifes 10th birthday present, she died a couple of years ago now, she was a breed of snow cat who hated snow but loved Kebabs and Mushy Peas.

This is/was Vegas ...

Half Bengal, more dog than cat, was incredibly protective of Mrs. z during pregnancy died way too soon from an untreatable disease. I miss him.

We have another cat called Hazel, I prefer to call her Undead Monkey, you know the monkey (Jack) from Pirates of The Caribbean, she is like that but shy and brown.. hence no pics.

She's had a couple of litters in her time and views him as a large kitten, keeps her distance but watches over him and lets us know when he's upset.

Smitten is another way of putting it.

Lucky does that with the doors inside the house. He used to jump up and paw the letterbox, one chap and you knew it was the cat wanting in, but we got a new door so now he just scrapes the poo out of it.  ;D

Smokes, do you remember this post? Ive been going back through and wondered if you ever did anything about this?

Smokes, do you remember this post? Ive been going back through and wondered if you ever did anything about this?

The missus' sister and family adopted a cat shortly afterwards, a three legged one no less (it was actually sent down by the RSPCA from Scotland), and as our kids spend a good deal of time round at their house we thought we'd see how they acted around it.  They are incredibly affectionate towards the moggy so we could in theory get one of our own if we decide to, but I don't feel we are ready just yet.
Title: Re: Post your pets
Post by: indie180 on September 15, 2009, 12:25:26 PM
I knew a three legged cat from it was a kitten (lost a front leg after a dog got it when it was a kitten), it didn't hold it back from having a full and active life. It could run like the wind, climb anything and the muscles it had in that one paw were incredible.  ;D

I used to have a two mice:

One was called Salt, the other Pepper.  Those names were chosen because I feared White-face and Black-face wasn't very PC.

I posted these pictures on the SubDemon, but that doesn't exist anymore.

When I first got them, I kept them in a Hamster cage which I bought from Wilkinsons (a shop that sells cheap stuff - most of it broken).  Because this cage wasn't built for little mice, Pepper always managed to escape.  Once she disappeared for a long and I was very worried about it - frankcapri made jokes about this >:(

Eventually, I found a very large storage box for them and returned the cage.

Here we have Pepper on one of the random bits of cardboard I used to leave for the mice:

Here we have Pepper preparing to escape.  They jump fairly high and she nearly made it once. Nearly.

Second attempt XD
(http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff252/chekovsulu/mice/pepper11.jpg)

Pepper inside the Weetabix box:

Here is Pepper before jumping off the top of the Weetabix box:

Here's salt in the little ball they enjoyed rolling around in.

Here she's on it.

She's looking at the webcam here:

And sniffing it here:

She used to hide in here a lot, she was a bit shy:

When they were both in the green ball, it never went anywhere - they wouldn't cooperate.

Pepper didn't want to run anymore.

It was hard getting these pictures, they wouldn't stay still.  I eventually had to return the mice to the original owner :(

...This is our lil puppy during her first year with us. God I love this dog. Lift your glass with me to toast Gretta. CHEERS!!
I had no idea doggies grew up so fast!  :o

Well, I've kinda been slacking about pulling the pics of the pets off the camera, but here we go...

Here's a crazy picture of The Boys where the flash caused their eyes to glow. I think it's neat how you can tell that Tweek has yellow eyes and Butters has green:

And this pic was taken mere seconds after that last one and shows my pal Seamus hoping desperately that the cats will come downstairs and want to play with him (they don't :D):

And here's ma boy Butters in his version of a pig's poke - the dirty laundry basket. He got especially excited when my sister asked me to wash a couple of things for her and laid them in the basket with him. Now he can bask in the smells of his two favorite people's dirty laundry at once! Her skirt was covering his head for awhile and you could hear him trilling beneath it it was purring so hard. Crazy cat!:

I am RE-posting this in honor of Gretta. She passed away this week and we are really having a hard time with the loss even though I know that it was for the best. She was riddled with tumors, deaf, partially blind and severe tooth decay in one molar. But that meant nothing when I look back on the glorious life she led and how happy and proud she made us for 14 years.

I love you girl........... :-*

Without going into details, cause Im not really into crying, our girl is having some failing health issues. Did Gretta like to swim or did you coerce her into the pool.  :D

Well, she was trained quite well and did pretty much everything we told her to do but keeping her out of the water was near impossible. As you can see, that was a swimming pool. My husbands aunts pool. She saw us swimming and jumped right in. Head went under and everything. Hilarious!! We knew every watering hole near by. She would swim in the dead of winter if we let her. She did accomplish that once when my husband was hiking with her. He was looking the opposite way and the next thing you know -> she was in a paddling around. Crazy dog.  :D

Socks's son i've called him Chester, here he is,he's as  symmetrical as you can get.
White front paws, white rear legs under the knees,a white spotfrom his nose that turns into a white V on his chest that tapers into a white stripe that runs down his belly to his balls.

Incidentally he'll have a brother or half brother in a month or so,a ginger Tom.

Did Socks come to you when you called his name when you lived together? Im not being pesimistic but if he didnt then Im not sure he will now. He was such a lover, someone has probably adopted him and is taking good care of him. Do you have "animal shelters" where you live? Have you checked there? Did he have any tags on him?

You're probably right Cheapie, there are a lot of old people where he went missing.
No tags,im not into collars on Cats, especially long haired ones.

Im not NEARLY that pleasing and compationate. You, of all people, should know that.

"Thanks" everyone for all the well wishes and compliments.Took her for shots today and they are placing her at approx 12 mths. Her size makes her look young but her teeth, followed by her disposition, paw size, definately says older. So she is going to be an unusually small shepherd but you know what? I couldnt care less. We love her already.

I had a Siberian Husky (well actually I had 3 of them along the years) and she chased (and caught, and killed  ::)) a whole family of raccoons. But we all know they aren't actually dogs but something between a wild beast and a dog.  :D  They gave me a lot of headaches in some aspects but they were really good in others.

My thoughts exactly! But I guess if you dont have a home you will find one whenever the need arises.

That's why we cut our Yucca plant down. Never found an animal it, but better safe than sorry.
Why is it unsafe? I think its actually a teenage raccoon and this was it first apartment because it didnt do a very good job of picking it out.

It didn't do a very good job.  :D

The reason xto gave is the reason we cut down the plant. We didn't want to find dead animals in the backyard because our dogs definitely would've killed them. Plus, rabies. No one should have to deal with that.

Really?! That also happens in England?  :-\

'Fouling of the public footpath' is the #1 anti-social behaviour problem in the UK, and in congested cities like London, the problem is even worse as you can imagine.  I have to walk about 150yrds to take my kids to school and have to dodge at least 10 heaps of slowing disolving dog crap on the way there.

Much as I love animals, I have come to the conclusion the dogs have no place in urban society.  They do not have the space or facilities that they need and with ever increasing dog attacks on children, my opinion is that all dogs should be strictly licenced, chipped, and pre-requisites laid out to those who want to keep them in built up areas.
Title: Re: Post your pets
Post by: goldshirt*9 on October 03, 2010, 01:47:58 AM
i agree with the chipping of dogs and a licence.
its the owners who are at fault with the dog poo.

i have had to hit a dog on the local park when the owner let it off the lead and it went for my dog.

arguments occur and trouble ensues.

There is a cat on my street that, as legend has it, arrived in the back of a removal lorry about 10 years ago and probably came from too far away to get back.  It has since set up a network of homes to eat and sleep but refused until lately, to be pinned down by any one household. However, about 6 months ago it appeared with a collar on and looks better groomed than before, so I guess he's surrendered his playboy lifestyle for a place in front of the fire and telly.

Hi, Gee!  :) Probably he's doing OK. My best friend used to have a cat (died of old age btw) that used to disappear for long periods. Sometimes it came back in really bad shape but sometimes it came back healthy and beautiful. Years later my friend knew (by chance) its other "owner". The person lived more than a block away and care a lot about the cat. And it wasn't even a friendly cat! Lucky scallywag!  :D

dog and Guinea pig in the same house.
how do they get on  ???
Title: Re: Post your pets

I used to have a Guinea pig and a Dalmatian in the same house. Nonetheless they never "mingle" so to speak.

Post by: ohcheap1 on November 07, 2010, 08:29:20 AM
Well Hazel gave him a lick the other day. Of course Anna freaked out about it and screamed at the dog. I think given the opportunity the dog might do alittle munching but shes also pretty bright. She has figured out that if she messes with the other creatures in the house a wrath will fall on her.

Its been one hell of year for our extended family members = pets. My daughters best friend died last night. Little Shadow. She was 11 years old and honestly the love of my daughters life. Although I desperately miss this kitty my heart is breaking for my daughter. I have never seen her as devastated as she is over this. Just holding out hope that this is it in regards to loosing anymore pets. I dont think we can handle it.  :'(

a mommy cat had was laying in my driveway, and I was watching her and her kittens out my window. The kittens were jumping through my bike tire wheels of my parked bike, running in the grass, and chasing her tail.. I wanted to go kitty-nap the one that looked like your kitten. But the mommy might not have been too happy ::)

Yes apparently a cross with something,, no idea what, but he snorts like a pig and has a squashed nose/face.
possibly pug cross ??? looking at a few pictures on tinternet this could be right ??
he's 3 years old and very energetic .nothing like my Bichon who's a lazy so and so.
seem to be getting on ok, the bichon just go's on the stairs to get away from him.

He's just excited as he's been in a cage for a while.

This is what's left of our dog after her haircut.
Her last achievement was chewing up my father's hearing aids. Aprox. cost for both of them: U$S 2500, custom made (of course), insurance doesn't cover the damage (of course).

Oh Mishca.... That is SO sad. Ihad a cat that lived to 21 but 16 years for a puppy is AMAZING! What a great life you guys shared together. I know how hard the end is (see my whining page and pics when my baby died) having to make the decision to have them "relieved" is the hardest thing youll ever have to do but you do it for their quality of life. Big hugs to you and your family for your loss.

Guinea Pig my friend, not hamster. And Yes he has a wife. Her name is Howard. My daughter wanted them to be name after Vince and Howard from the Might Boosh. The sex had nothing to do with it. For those of you that know that show, we know we name them incorrectly but when we got Vince we thought he would be the only one but he got lonely and of course to complicate things we got a black one and named it Howard.

Heres Vince when he was about the size of a hamster though.

Title: Re: Post your pets
Post by: ohcheap1 on April 10, 2013, 09:45:41 PM
Nope. That was the deal, had her fixed before she even came home. She and her 5 babies (pregnant when she was dumped) had been abandoned along with about 18 other piggies in a box in front of a Pet Smart due to the freakish stupid hillbillys who had the original Mom and Dad and never bothered fixing them. When we went to find Vince someone to hang with the original plan was to find another male but as you can see he is a total bull and just went crazy on any males we introduced him to. He and Howard have gotten along famously since day one. I dont want to go into their intimacy issues......... just to personal. Ha!!
The day they first met. Love at first sniff.
This was the only male the got along with and as you can see he was just a baby. My guess was when he got older Vince woulda beat the hell outta him so we passed.

Guinea pigs like to hang out outside on the lawn where they like to chew on the grass.  They are really zippy little runners, though, so it's important to keep them in a bounded space.  And they breed like rodents, as we discovered when we adopted a female refugee that turned out to be pregnant.

They are very easy to care for except for the nails. Im terrified to clip them but when Annas home she does it really quick. Their life span is 5-6 years, but I have a feeling they will last much longer.

I didnt have the patience to potty train them so letting them out on the floor isnt something I do. Snuggling is the only time they come out/they have an outdoor pen too. Little lawnmowers and Im not kidding. Ha!! Youve seen Vince, snugglings not his thing. Now..... headbutting is. Howard is a lover though. She puts her head under my chin and make the sweetest sounds.

We kept them.  Then one of the males committed incest and we ended up with even more.  Eventually my parents got pissed because we didn't clean the cage enough so they gave them away.  We had them for a few years, though.

We would let them out in the house to wander around on the floor.  It was really funny when the mother g pig would walk away with 2 of the 3 babies.  The third would suddenly realize it had been left and squeal repeatedly until the mother came back.  There's a real family sense with these little guys.

Never leave that "to chance" my friend . Part of being a good pet owner is to insure this. If you have to take your pet to a class do it, if you have the ability to do it on your be consistent. Oh, and congratulations. Its a good feeling.
Title: Re: Post your pets
Post by: mishca09 on April 16, 2013, 08:20:04 AM
I have one those retractable leashes and I practice all the time by calling him and when he comes over I give him a treat. However his ears seem to be clogged when he's around other dogs and I have to call him more then once. And when I let him off the leash again this morning , he started to go over to people to people to be petted, but I'm scared someone would try to take him, so I have to figure out a way to stop him from doing that. So we still have work to do.

Cane Corso - Holly Moses- a beast of a dog, never seen one, why do they cut the ears ?

they look much better with floppy ears.
WHAT you dont like the bear ears she makes him wear, lol

Honestly, I only saw the bear ears the 2nd time I saw the pic.

they look much better with floppy ears.

I think so too.

Cane Corso - Holly Moses- a beast of a dog, never seen one, why do they cut the ears ?

Docking and cropping... what can we say about that...  ::) :(  They look meaner and all that.

It's supposed to be a good watch dog and they live in the outskirts, etc, etc. A good alarm system would be better for that purpose if you ask me.
They already have a German Shepherd that apparently is a good guard dog at night (I've always seen him during the day and he must think he's a chihuahua cause he tries to jump your lap!). They also have an old Boxer that's in very bad shape and miraculously (or bc they won't give up on him) made it to 2014.
They sent me a pic of the puppy and it's so black it's blue! Gorgeous animal. Apparently the 2 teenage daughters are against the cropping of the ears. He, he, my guess is the dog is pretty safe.

he had surgery yesterday and I was able to bring him home today. He's still a little out of it and he didn't quite believe I was there to pick him up from the vets office.

His other testicle didn't drop and the vet said it would be best to have it removed. So they removed the  one that didn't drop and the one that did. So, he is now a neutered pup. He is a year old.

Yes , he got them out yesterday and this morning I took him to the park so he could run and get dirty. He loved it  and he got to see one of his friends and they ran around for a bit. But he's gained weight at least half a pound this time around.I'm hoping now that he will be back on his regular excerise schedule he will maintain his weight. I know sometimes the dog or cat can gain a lot of weight after being neutered.

This is my 17 yr old girl asleep on my chest. We've decided this will be her last week of struggling to stay afloat. Has been deaf for 2 years and most recently her hind legs cant keep up with what her front legs want to do. We believe that animals have a sense of pride and dignity and deserve to uphold that in their passing, Miss Kit Pet-her-paw (named by our daughter because she liked to have her paws stroked) will be leaving us with only the best of memories. Im typing this one handed so I dont disturb her. If you could hear her purr right now even you might get alittle misty.

I know how most peoples pets fall into the feline or canine persuasion but I have a little babie that I love so much who is suffering with an abscess on her neck that is close to the size of her head. Ive had to wait almost 2 weeks to save the money to take her to a specialist who can perform a removal surgery in hopes that she will survive. Guinea pigs life span is only 4-6 years and she is 4 so I guess its a fools game at this point but I love this silly little creature and I want her to spend as many days with my family as I can. I get it.... most would say "Its a rodent why bother" but I love her and her male partner. 3 cheers to Vince and Howard that they will be able to share their golden years together!!! (Howard is a chick by the way....blame my kid.)
They miss each other so much as they have to stay separate so Vince doesnt get any of the infection that she is storing.

What was the origin of the abcess? Was it a tooth?
Title: Re: Post your pets

What was the origin of the abcess? Was it a tooth?
Yes, is was but unlike my mental image of a tooth that has abscessed the format is very different. When I think of an abscess tooth I think of what its like for humans but unlike us these creature have a tissue mass that starts to grow and then releases a HUGE amount of infected fluid. Her jaw looked like she had a golf ball, a hard golf ball stored in there. When the vet looked at her teeth she had broken one and they think that was the cause. Of course the guilt that overcame me was unbearable. HOW did I not notice she had a broken tooth?!?! The Dr did say that this can all occur very quickly and its not surprising I didnt notice but I hold my piggies daily, I should of noticed. She also had her teeth clipped. AAAHHHH!!!!!! But after that was done she ate consistently!! Crazy! We took her back for surgery today.

Well, she made it this far. And the best news is the vet was able to get the entire abscess!!! It had started to attach to her jaw so this was a miracle. Now the next few days are crucial for recovery. She HAS to eat in order to pull through this. Fred minced up some veggies really fine and shes SO sweet. She standing over them smelling them and I can tell she wants to eat but shes just in to much pain right now. You can see the surgery staples in her neck. They run from her lower lip to the base of her neck. This lil girl is a fighter. Wish us luck and send those good vibes this way.

3 cheers for our Howard!! Hip Hip Hooray!!

It's very good to hear your pet is doing fine, OC1. She's definitely a tough girl. This is like surgery in an 80-90 yrs old. Surviving anesthesia was probably the toughest thing. And now she's eating?! It looks like she's going to be all right.

I'm glad the vet was able to operate.  I spent a ton of money on my last parakeet's surgery, but she was too far gone, cancer ridden, and died on the table.  At least I felt I'd done all I could for her.  I hope your Vince will soon bounce back to normal.

Its devastating isnt it 6P? I mentioned recently that I had to put my 17yr old kitty down. I was NOT ready to say good-bye to another loved one so soon. Howard is the girl that had surgery and like Mischa mentioned Vince is her partner.

We use fleece for Vinces bedding. Thats one of his pads so when he free falls it doesnt get on the furniture (which is vinyl not fabric. I learned my lesson) Hazel's (dog) best buddy was Kit our cat that passed and Vinces (guinea pig) wife/partner was Howard. So they have really started helping each other through this rough patch. I personally cry every day but its getting shorter each time. Those freakin animals held my heart in their little furry hands.

Vince is the boy in the pic with Hazel up there Howard (I know its confusing) was the one who didnt make it. I came home from being away for 24 hours and she could barely stand, she was that close. I held her for a few minutes and she died in my arms. Still really, really sad for me and the fam. Vince, her partner, is making due with the big furry kid above. But God I miss her. Kit was indeed my cat that I lost recently. But she had lived an awesome life and as much as it hurt to say goodbye I felt I was doing the right thing. Howard, well that is still a spike in my chest. Honey looks like she's really fun to play with.

My bird has decided that he's in love with my hand.  This is sort of weird.  I have to tell him to knock it off.  The more annoying aspect of it is the love bites.  He thinks my hand is another budgie.

Not so fun.  At least the bird doesn't generally increase my laundry bills a good deal.

He knows how to get out of the cage, but he's not strong enough to open the door.  Still, I know when he wants out because he grabs it with his beak and rattles it, like someone in prison.  He is kept in when we aren't in the room, or when we are eating (he will hover over your plate and try to land on your food or your hand if you try to swat him away).  Mind you, he's funny as hell and has a sweet disposition, but there are times he's kept in the cage for his own good and for our peace of mind.
