Title: Geemonster's American car thread
Post by: Geemonster on October 12, 2009, 12:47:16 PM
I live in the UK and i've always loved American cars,or Yank Tanks as some refer to them.
Here's a couple i've taken with my fone recently.
Feel free to add your own.

Also a 1969 Dodge charger

That should be quite a rare car now, The Dukes of Hazzard must have went through a lot of them.  :-\

1970 Corvette StingRay.

AC Cobra, they are both 1965 Shelby Cobra's.

The CSX 3303 is 'The Super Snake'

Fast and Sexy.  ;D

"An AC Cobra Coupe was calculated to have done 185 mph (298 km/h) on the M1 motorway in 1964 and reputedly contributed to the implementation of national speed limits in the United Kingdom"

Well at least we can go faster than the Yanks at their paltry 55MPH ;)

Shelby only made two 'Super Snakes' one for him self and one for his close friend Bill Cosby. Cosby wanted to be the first black man to do 200mph. This was humorously documented in Cosby's album titled "Bill Cosby, 200 M.P.H." Cosby gave the car back after driving it once.

The car an alleged 800 brake horsepower (bhp) and 462 Ft pounds of torque at an astounding low of 3000 rpm. Officially rated at 0-to-60 at 4.5 seconds, legend and lore have it as doing that in a little over 3 seconds.

I allways appreciated the 1977 Trans Am.

I drive a custom 1993 Jeep Wrangler California Custom edition.

Another friend had a Lincoln Continental a few yrs ago.
For just under a year i was part owner of a Cadillac coupe De Ville,a 1973 model.
I lost the few pics i had, when you move about a lot these things happen.
Here's a pic of one, ours was black with a beige vinyl roof.

Of course though,,my dream car is a 1957 Chevy Bel Air,,,Racing red with a white convertable top.
The back seats were big enough to catch every social desiese to man! lmao

I'd like a 1969 Cadillac Coupe De Ville & of course a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T.
Title: Re: Geemonster's American car thread
Post by: Robin-Graves on October 12, 2009, 06:15:41 PM
The Coupe De Ville is nice,, rides damn smooth.
The Charger RT is only good for wrapping around telephone poles at high speads,, the handling sucks.
But as a strait line top end car,, you cant beat it for the time it was made.

Definitely!
The Caddy was a glider and those sumptuous leather seats just swallowed you up.
It was different because of the column change gears and no handbrake,a pedal brake instead.
I loved it and was gutted to have to sell as my business partner and friend were too poor to run it,after we hit a bad spell.
The R/T i'd like with all the original bits on,it'd be the car i'd take to Birch aerodrome where you can drive it fast.
Title: Re: Geemonster's American car thread
Post by: Robin-Graves on October 12, 2009, 06:24:33 PM
Oh yeah,, the R/T youd need alot of room to turn it at speed.
It was big, bulky and handled like a truck due to the limited stearing capacity

The 68 Shelby handled pretty good, infact it outsold Corvetter and Mustang due to its performance that year

^ I saw more then one car this weekend that reminded me of you. Now I just have to sit down and think of which cars they might have been :P I have good guesses.. but a couple I need to search and see if I'm right. And I didn't have my camera with me when I saw any of them :-\

I want a nice 1973 Trans Am  with all kinds of goodies in it,, like machine guns, mine droppers, and a flame thrower on each side.
Missile launchers would be favorite too.
I hate these Oklahoma drivers.
America will give a blind man and his dog a license to drive.

One I saw this weekend was definitely a balack and white 57' chevy. Another I was too far away from, but it was a red and black muscle car. I'm not sure if it was a GTO ..or something like a 68' Dodge Charger. The I've see more then one International Harvester pickup around. One was a beatiful nice nasty orange. The other was a lovely faded red an white.

I know its not a muscle car,, but here is my baby.

A 1993 Jeep Wrangler California Custom Edition.
5 speed manual transmision, variable 2 and 4 wheel drive transfer case and a nice 6 cylinder fuel injected high output engine.
 And only 56,000 original miles.
I inherited it from my late father when he passed away.

^ It?s pretty :)

...not exactly a Jeep, and it?s not American?. But the Jeep pic reminded me how much I?d like to have an old Volkswagen Thing. Amybe I could have an American mechanic retrofit it electric and it could be born anew in the US ;D

Those were cool.
You know, they were suposed to actualy float,, they were built to be water tight so they could be used as millitary landing craft.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_W8 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_W8)

I remember this car from mags a long time ago. It always bothered me. It not only has an unfortunate automatic transmission,  but although the car is left hand drive, the lever is still left of the driver.

WHY?!?!?!
