I have an 18 year old friend I have taken to looking after, she reminds me of my daughter, because she is closer in age to her than to me. Guaranteed I won't be Cool Hand Luke'd into feeling the drudge that some unfortunate people my age suffer from this place, but I do see it. Now, before you log in, the rectangular field at the bottom of the page only lists the names of posters in recent posts, not the topic/thread in which they posted. It's leaner. Not particularly a problem, but less information.
You can always look at the specific topic category to see the name of the last poster. None of the posts or names of threads are visible until you log in. That does afford a greater amount of privacy.
It's definitely happened within the last day. It used to be possible to see the names of the threads and the last poster active in it. Now we see categories and names but nothing else. The bottom rectangle has names of posters only.
The little faces with "New" next to them also indicate recent activity within the categories, but it isn't possible to see in which threads it took place.

Illinois is also named after the local tribes who originally inhabited the area.

There's a town in southern Illinois called Cairo (pronounced Kay Ro). There are multiple references to the Nile delta and Egypt in the area near the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. The kids are doing fine six. My daughter is adjusting, it just takes time for her, she is a creature of habit.
My son is with his father and his new brother and sister, his father's girlfriend and I have been close and they have been together 5 years or more. I trust them with him, and I have the option of getting a well paying job now without finding childcare for 2 children. Once I have the job and my residence for 6 months or so consecutively, then my son can move back with me. His father and I decided this was best until the move was settled. He is doing great, his attitude and motivation are amazing. We miss eachother, I've been to see him twice in 3 months, we miss eachother so much <3 I won't let him miss me too much ;) just want him smiling and living well. My daughter is a tough little girl and a very practical one. She understands that life throws curve balls and changes can be big, I'm so proud of her. I am impressed by her emotional maturity levels despite her language skills needed proper tuning and therapy. She missed school and therapy this year since March, a very practical girl, can be pleased easily by love and attention and food ;) I'd like to find an advocacy program, I hear they have more here but I'm still swimming in all the paperwork and i.d. proofing with programs that I have already signed up for. I'll get this straightened out, we all will.

I think it was about a Euro per litre when I was on the island. The price had risen from .85 over the year I was there. I don't envy you those prices. It's kind of pricey here, but we pay per gallon. I think the last time I gassed up it was 3.99/gallon (and that was a deep discount), so slightly cheaper than what you are paying but California has some of the highest prices in the nation. I think it averages around 4.50 here.

I'm from the generation that doesn't find that uncomfortable: I still see it as "humour", and I see the white guy as the racist butt of the joke.
Same principle. Back then racism was socially acceptable, as was homophobia and all the other -isms that Alf Garnett exhibited; but the point was that his position was always untenable, this point being made largely with humour.
Today we have arrived at the position where if I say "it is unacceptable to use the word ------", I can't actually use the word in that sentence, because it is unacceptable. Madness is not coming, it has arrived.

My problem with all of these "-ism"s is (like everything) that they aren't homogenous. There are different "required approaches" for each of the flavours of -ism.
For racism (but there are exact equivalents for every "-ism"), there are some folk - even in the "disadvantaged" "minority") that actually just want colour blindness, but there are also some that require affirmative action to (e.g.) "make up for history". There are those that want everyone to live together, and those that want each culture to be preserved discretely. Black people must be able to play white roles, but white people are never allowed to play black roles. People of colour (there are even sections that demand different words be used, and these different groups never agree, so one group or other can always be offended, whichever language is used) are allowed - nay required - to be allowed access to all cultures, but white people aren't allowed to "culturally appropriate", or "blackfish", or whatever the in-vogue issue is. It gets worse when there is in-fighting - any black person that succeeds is an Oreo: this appears to be unavoidable, as most "-isms" are simply an excuse for some people be offended, and anything that removes that offence has to be outlawed to preserve the indignity.
I don't, and can't, pretend to understand the whole transgender thing. At the heart is the dichotomy: "there should be no restriction on gender, but I want to be this particular one". "Women" don't exist, as they are "persons with vulvas", but the boy that wants to be a girl doesn't want to be a "person with a vulva". he wants to be a girl.
People that want to be neither - or both? - are beyond my comprehension.
This really does seem to me to be like me wanting to be an olympic swimmer, or a premiership footballer, or a mermaid: unfortunately that wasn't what I was made to be, so I have to suck it up and make the best of what I am.

Apparently it's a result of Brexit but looking carefully at my invoice the German company didn't state I'd paid the VAT. In fact, in one email the contents of the email has the breakdown of the costs clearly showing the 20% VAT, but in the attached PDF (and the invoice accompanying the parcel) it's bundled so the border force wouldn't automatically know I'd paid. I get the feeling that European companies are doing this intentionally - what I mean is: they are doing just enough as they are obliged to in their own country, and letting the U.K sort the mess out over here. I printed that email that reflected the VAT and sent it to the border force. Easier to buy from China direct (Aliexpress) and have never paid for import duties.
Nothing will induce me to voluntarily have any dealings with China.true but China (shops) do stock items I cannot get anywhere else, hard to believe but their cycling sizing is excellent for me and the shop i stated does stock phone cases for my Chinese phone, even ebay ships from china. Dont buy alot now but when I had to I did, in fact try not to buy anything from anywhere ATM.

I can safely say that swimming in the ocean isn’t my first instinct, seeing it though, I just want to see it. I want to show it to my children. It would take me a few foot dips to have what it takes to overcome my open water fear. I’d love to though.

Glad they were able to revive you, 8ully. The Pacific is way too cold to swim in here w/o a wetsuit. The currents come down from Alaska, so my interaction has been limited to walking on the beach out here. The Atlantic on the East Coast was warmer, although I never found it super warm, until I was swimming in Florida. The Caribbean was the best for swimming. That's the best exercise I've ever had, as it's so relaxing and you can float around for hours if you get tired. Bonus: you get to watch the fish.
Pools can be fine, although the chemicals they put in them aren't so great for the skin.

I was watching the rugby this evening and during one of the long "clock off" periods they played the Spice girls - Wannabe in the stadium. It sounded absolutely dreadful without a morsel of vocal talent being heard.
It's no secret that you just over produce a song with poor singers to disguise it, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time - especially when it's played on a massive sound system.
Phones are a different matter in that they generally have some programming that will allow you to find the owner. I've never understood why the bonehead who took my phone wouldn't give it back once it became clear that it was a brick, and after I'd basically blanketed his area with reward posters.
