So I'm thinking then I can account for one third of my life. :D What I'm now thinking is how much of my life is spent waiting for transcoding, Importing, Exporting oh and downloads and uploads. I know I fixed mine. I was using an old, but really good, ethernet controller and the rj-45 connector just fell off (solder points broke). Luckily the mobo has 2 integrated ones.I only understood "I know I fixed mine." The rest went over my head. :D

If it is a desktop and it won't turn on it is more than likely the PSU. You can pick them up for pennies (unless it's a Dell Dimension c521 >:( >:( >:() and they are easier to fit than counting to 10. It is worth trying before you shell out as there is virtually no outlay. PM me if you need assistance.

Goldie, you should be able to get a USB (female) to USB mini usb that should let you connect the USB-F to the card reader then the mini usb to the device. Just make sure which mini-usb connection it is.

That's what I linked him to above but I believe the Apad ships with a lead that adapts the mini-b port to usb which I think he has. The problem Goldie says he is having is that it doesn't like the Card read via an adaptor and wants to find a dedicated usb mini-b type card reader that I don't think exist.
I can't really think of why a standard card reader isn't being picked up by his usb adapter; it might be the adaptor or it might be worth trying another card reader. Could also be that the chewed, in-built, card reader port is confusing the card reader drivers if it is spitting a physical error.
I'd drop it again and claim a new one on the house insurance.

I've "buckled" already. Work has been good but hectic and it's easy to fall back on the routine. But my resolve to quit is still strong and I'm getting right back on that horse.
I stopped by counting the minutes since my last cigarette. When I got to 60, I started counting the hours (then went back to minutes because there wasn't another around for ages). When I got to 600 I tried hours again. When I got to 1000 hours, I moved to days, and so on. The large numbers kept me going ("I can't go through another 1000 hours/ 100 days/ whatever so I'm going to keep going ...")
Nowadays I don't count any more, but I am perennially tempted.
I'm thinking whether I should phone some clients and book in the work they need doing, or just take the rest of January off.

There's a popular salad in my country called Waldorf salad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waldorf_salad). It's a must on buffet meals. We don't put neither grapes nor lettuce in it though.
There's another (interesting) one: grilled onions and oranges. I was shocked when I saw that on a table once. But I must say I enjoyed it. I think the dressing had some mustard in it but I don't remember.

I would like to tell you that it's just history repeating itself because that it actually happens to me much of the time I am in line to do something important, but that would be to "look around" the actual problem and just comfort.. Which, the problem is that things fall into place to abruptly stop you from achieving what ya need to. What are the things? Not that I am asking you to tell me, but to think about what the cause is, or causes. That's the stuff that needs worked on.
I never did watch Doctor Who. I just keep to the same shows when I find them, I find it hard to venture very far from documentaries and raw and terrible humored cartoons. I do love the vividly creative though.

How much Windows 8 is pissing me off...but much of it is my system arrangement. Before switching to Win8 from Win7, I had 3 computers set up, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Ubuntu, sharing one keyboard and mouse using a great application called Synergy. I was also tunneling the Synergy communication using SSH as 2 of the 3 computers are on my work's open network. Now with Win8, where everything is SOOOOOO different (that annoys me, but I was ready for it...my reason for switching already was so that I could learn it so as to help others later down the line), I've been trying to get the Synergy set up back working but haven't been successful. That being said, I am forever typing on my Synergy keyboard when I mean to be typing on my laptop keyboard and it's starting to rub my last nerve.what kvm switch do you use for Windows 7 and ubuntu, or does Synergy sort the windows 7 problem

Synergy is a software based km (KVM withouth the V part). I still use a separate monitor for each computer. Synergy just transmits the mouse's location, relative to the monitor boundary. Once the mouse reaches a monitor edge and crosses over, Synergy then "switches" it to the adjacent monitor/computer. Keyboard focus follows the mouse focus.
Below is a recent setup I use at work (I've swapped some monitors out recently.

Left to right, monitor-wise, I have Ubuntu, laptop and 2nd laptop monitor running Windows 7, white screen is Windows Server 2008 R2 (Running as the Synergy Server; this is the computer that the mouse and keyboard are physically attached to), and right-most monitor is Gentoo. There are 2 mice there, but I just use the second for when I boot up the laptop as I haven't automated the SSH-tunnel I use for the Synergy connection so Synergy doesn't connect right away (and my laptop dock has been deactivating the touchpad).
I use an SSH tunnel because the Synergy communications is plain text. For a setup where all the computers are behind a personal or home router, it isn't that big a deal but for my setup above, the 2 right computer are behind a router and the Ubuntu and Gentoo are on my works open network.
I've been using Synergy for 3-4 years now and even help out in the #synergy channel on the Freenode IRC network. I honestly don't know how I ever functioned without it.
A few points of interest if you decide to try it out. There is some bugginess. For my linux installs, I try to use the 1.3.x level of the Synergy client while using the 1.4.x on my Windows install. I tried using 1.4.x on the linux distros but experienced a well-known bug where the key-modifier keys (Caps Lock, Shift, Ctrl, Winkey/Super/AltGr, and Alt) sometimes get "sticky". 1.3.x on the linux ones resolved this issue for me greatly. Different versions of the Synergy client can be used between the systems but, whereas 1.3.x clients connect fine to 1.4.x servers, 1.4.x clients won't connect properly to 1.3.x servers.

The night you had off you had the travel type earplugs to yourself and barring the building burning down, you were not to be disturbed. The following night you just had to grin and bear it, but the thought of your night off the following night was like a Trifle on the horizon.

I lived in the Boston area for around a decade and still feel at home in that city. I'm saddened and disgusted by the bombing of the Marathon. I still remember watching it live and cheering the competitors as they neared the finish. As a parent would you prefer to have a rich, important, famous depressive, or a poor underachieving happy nobody? (Assuming that the child has the skill to do either).
The trick at this point is raising them so that when they get to your advanced age they don't look back and say "I wish that ...".
It all went rather well with my son at A*, A and B GCSE level 3 years earlier than required. They suggested him doing most of his GCSEs early and then doing advanced modules before A-Levels.
The bad thing is: he could be much further ahead if he got his damn finger out. It's almost as if exceptional grades are actually "demotivating"?.
I think there is some truth to that. I drifted through middle school after working hard and being among the top students in my elementary school. I think that if your children get into a bigger pond with more competition, they'll adjust. It's hard right now, I'm sure, as you want them to go as far as their natural talents and hard work will take them, but lots of kids go through periods where, for one reason or another, they slack off. This is not uncommon, and I've had friends who had bright children who screwed around for a while only to get back their focus in a year or so.

They have a poison 10 to 100 times more potent than that of a rattlesnake. I've found a dying one in the back yard today. It's certainly not the 1st time. I both fear and hate those damned SOBs. They can reproduce both sexually AND parthenogenetically. I mean, come on! And this summer is raining quite often which washes off the insecticides.

They are promotional items, made by Aquila/ Montegrappa. I got mine on eBay for £20-50 (I also have a pair of rollerballs to go with them, in black and BRG)
I got them as an ostentatious addition to the XK8, so that everyone would know that I drive a Jag-warr, and to my surprise found that I quite liked writing with them (I hadn't used ink since school, where it was a new-fangled alternative to slate). I bought a couple of plungers and a bottle of ink (cartridges may be easier, but I can't abide going out to buy the fiddly little things every other week, especially as they aren't standard Parker/ Shaeffer ones), and irritate the rest of the office by splodging blots everywhere.
They write quite differently from each other - the black one has a soft nib that doesn't carry ink brilliantly (a line will sometimes have gaps in it), the white one is the opposite: it has quite a hard nib - feels almost ballpointy - but writes flawlessly. Odd, as the nibs appear identical. I am not sure what differences the manufacturer made in the promotional items, and it is almost impossible to find out, but it is quite possible that there are many different versions appropriate to different models of car (which may explain the huge price variations on eBay!)

Re: waking with headaches. I had that problem for a while until a perceptive dental hygienist noticed that I grind my teeth in my sleep. It could also be due to caffeine withdrawal if you haven't been drinking tea or coffee lately and customarily did have it to wake up in the morning.

If she likes mathematics you are all set, you don't really need tutors or assistance, she will find her own way. The trick that most schools (and parent, to be honest) miss is finding a way to make kids actually enjoy it - when they do, the job is mostly done.

We have rum in the cupboard from a visit to St. Martin over 5 years ago. It's rarely warm enough to have a rum and tonic here so it sits undrunk. I tend to drink wine more often here as it's plentiful locally and inexpensive because so many vineyards are near here.
I like to have a tot of rum as a sort of digestif. Whether it works or not is a matter of opinion but it's fun trying to find out.

I've read all your comments about Maths and kids and I appreciate them all. The thing is my daughter passed the regional stage and got to the nationals again. But the school director re-scheduled a 2-day school trip for the same 2 days when the Math Nationals take place. Apparently that woman has no notion of the concept of agenda. When I told her the dates coincided I SAW IT in her face she didn't take that into account when she re-scheduled. Of course she told me there were no more dates available for the trip and my daughter will have to choose between the two activities. Of course she picked the shool trip.

After 3 days of trying to figure out why my graphics card was not performing and the drivers crashing (completely uninstalled/installed the drivers several times). Thought my $630.00 card was borked. I tried my old card and the same thing. \o/ It wasn't he card. I finally figured it out. I bought <gasp> a Windows 10 Pro key ($32.00 USD). My first legit OS. Downloaded the .ISO from Microsoft, installed and activated it. My problem went away.

We haven't heard from my husband's parents since before the storm hit and the silence is really worrying. We try to call and get busy signals, but that's probably because the phone lines have been knocked out. We hear reports of looting. Even if they survived this storm, there are thugs about. And another hurricane about to hit them. The photos of devastation are overwhelming. He's a wreck and there's nothing we can do about it.
The storm has moved past my brother's area now but we haven't heard from him yet. I'm fairly certain he's ok, just busy with helping with recovery (either that or he doesn't have cell service). Right now, no news is good news.
My sister got through the storm relatively unscathed. Don't know how brick held up.

Have you checked under File Sharing, to see if your eBook program is there? If so, you should be able to drag-and-drop to it like before.
I think Apple just removed the "Books" section from the iPad devices section and moved the functionality into File Sharing instead.

so wednesday went hospital for a operation, turned up at 7.30 am seen surgeon and then waited till 12 am for the surgeon to walk and state

whilst this is happening, all around us the 6 nurses were writing on the bed plaques the pm shift surgery names ??? ???
At first I just didn't know what to say, so i just laughed and stated "unless the surgeon faerie could come around my house to perform the same operation I think you had better" then walked out.
Now have on the 23rd an appointment at 12.30. 2nd time lucky ????
In all after an hour on the phone persuading the appointment staff to give me a quick turn around I learnt that
A-am they perform surgery 9-12am
B-pm they perform surgery 1-3 pm
C-Surgeons then go to private hospitals
6 trained nursed for 4 patients on my the ward i was on ( they were lovely)
And they wonder why the NHS is failing.

I'm hoping the doctor will make it so I can walk again. My left foot is nearly unusable. I don't know why but putting weight on it causes great pain. I went for a long walk in the wrong shoes and it's been getting worse ever since. Nearly a month of this.Sorry to hear that Six. That sucks. My foot FINALLY healed up.
