Title: Budget Bartender
Post by: ohcheap1 on April 06, 2010, 09:18:56 PM
One of my previous jobs, on and off for 25 years, has been bartending at a realatively high-end restaurant. To say the least since my unemployment adventure started my tastes have not changed but my budget definately has. Tonights creation was the discount white russian which consisted of:
-left over coffee from this morning
-mocha coffee creamer
-milk
-a butt load of cheap vodka
All I know is it tasted decent and maybe this should be my new career. The budget bartender? any other recipes you can think of?

I do have a few but I can never remember what went in them.  Usually Ice-cream and rum I know for sure, sometimes whatever fruit is available and honey if I have some.  Next time I knock something up I'll itemise the ingredients.

Well, daiquir?, caipirinha, mojito, etc can be very cheap as long as the alcohol source is inexpensive but this isn't very inventive I guess.  :-\
Anyway I'm posting to get other members suggestions.  :D

When I went to France for a school trip when I was 16, we tried to make screwdrivers but had no orange juice or vodka so we used orange drink and rum.  We never noticed the difference. :D

Me and the guys one time in the locker room were doing Canadian Mist and 7-Up.
Another is what we call a Sledgehammer ( and it hits you like one too) Sweetened iced tea and Jack Daniels.

One of my faves ( from the early days) was called a Purple Martian,,Md 20/20 , grape coolaid and a little everclear.
WHo cares if it tasted funky,, after a glass your taste buds didnt work anymore anyway.

What we called a Pain Killer was a little more expensive,, we got some Everclear,, and poured it over tinned fruit with some Sprite and a little beer.
Man,, that took the pain of living right away from you lmao.

Mist is out, to expensive for budget.

Again with the name brand liquors, go with a well whiskey/bourbon and this would work.

Similar to a Harry Buffalo but again.....not cheap. Everclear costs alot, now Mad Dog you could pick up for 2/$5 I think. But Kool-Aid is definately being added to the list. Cherry Lemonade Kool-Aid and vodka rocks.

I dont know what "tinned fruit" is? Like canned fruit? One of the funniest summer time things is Watermelon with alcohol injected into it. Awesome!!

I think with Budweiser, additional ingredients can only improve it *runs and hides*

I'm thinking of having it for our trip this May.

Mountain air, waterfalls, rivers, hot springs and spiders.

Vodka and watermelon cannot go wrong.

It's been a long time since I went camping but I like to drink whiskey, or cognac or rum in those situations, idkw.

One cheap drink from Argentina is sangr?a: red wine, lemon juice, sugar and ice. Cheap red wine of course. You can buy 1 liter of red wine for U$S 1.50 here.  ::)

There's many different versions of ghetto "sangria" around.  When I was at Olive Garden, our sangria was a red wine and some sprite.

Or put few liter orange juice without preservatives in freezer and wait until it's totally frozen.
Then let it melt and wait,it ferment without yeast, sugar, etc.

Easy and cheap to made it,but drinking it...

Won't freezing it kill off some and slow down all of the essential bacteria needed to make the OJ ferment?  I would have thought that leaving it out at room temperature would speed the process up considerably.

Trust me,it works after freezing without yeast etc.
After it's totally melted,it's almost drinkable.

Pure orange juice is "best" choice.

Letting in room temperature without freezing spoils it.

My pal comes back from Poland on Friday and I'm going to ask her to bring me some of that.  Sounds delicious.
