Title: Downton Abbey
Post by: ohcheap1 on August 05, 2012, 10:52:00 AM
OK, so Im a couple of years behind the times but I fallen completely in love with this show. I have gotten through the full first series and am half way through the second already. Even though I want to kill OBrien and Thomas, I think its a great show. Thoughts?

I have only seen bits and bobs of it as I haven't really paid it much attention when on. From what I have seen of it is is definitely a solid ITV production as the cast is well loved faces, but I feel that it not the sort of series you could pick up on half way through - is that the case from your experience?

Me too, I have already seen the 2nd season.
It has been a success here in Spain, waiting for the 3rd season now

I started from eps1 and worked my way through in a matter of days. Of course if you start in the middle you will not feel as close to the characters but its still a great show.

Im on eps5 of season 2. My daughter wants to go shopping and I keep telling her 15 more minutes..... That was 2 hours ago. Ha!!

YES!! September in the UK! I have to say that last night I THOUGHT I was done and I was reading some background info on Wiki only to find out that the "Christmas Special" was actually the last eps of S2. Thank heavens I saw that. I was clapping at the end. Well, for Mary and Mathew that is, not so much for John Bates. I am officially addicted.

I really enjoyed the first series, but the second was dire. You'd think with all that talent and money they'd be able to knock up something good and it still fell flat on its face.
Which doesn't mean I'm not interested in the third series, but in a sort of car crash kinda way. But who knows, maybe Toad of Toad Hall pulled his finger out and actually came up with a plot that doesn't resemble Swiss cheese.

It's always pleasure to see you.

Im glad to see her too even if she has skewed vision on tv shows. Ha!

It's good, although it feels like Masterpiece Theatre lite to me.  There's so much about it that seems like a period soap opera with a good deal of money thrown at it, but on some level, it seems too grounded in earlier series, derivative, perhaps, but at the same time, painstakingly politically correct.  My husband loves it, so there you have it.  When it's on, it's on.

Let's agree to disagree. I'll happily re-adjust my opinion if the third season turns up a corker (which I doubt, but that's theoretical at the moment anyway) :)
