Very interesting SACPOP.

This study confirmed that hammerhead sharks have anterior binocular vision.

More extraordinary is that the position of the eyes allows the sharks to see through 360 degrees in the vertical plane, meaning the animals can see above and below them at all times.

"The body is a historical repository and remembers everything"

Quoted from here: http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/moral-landscapes/201109/myths-about-circumcision-you-likely-believe

Which is a testament on bias researching s.  I read a year ago, or so, that circumcision had an over abundance of positive feedback.

Recently, someone referred to me as the "Albert Einstein of Lotro."* A ludicrous thing to say to an utter stranger. I refuted this avowal by suggesting I was more like the Kurt Godel of Lotro... on the slim chance that this person finds his way to this site, I post the following.  :P

You couldn't pay with a card though, you had to buy some internet money, token type thingmabobs -- I forget exactly what -- and a friend of his was a regular customer for skunk weed so it did/does work.

Why do the links describe the "Original 1811 Edition" while the image you post of the title page bears the imprint 1788?  (MDCCLXXXVIII)

Among other nuggets, they have a term for short sheeting someone's bed:

Quote
APPLE-PYE BED. A bed made apple-pye fashion, like what
is called a turnover apple-pye, where the sheets are so
doubled as to prevent any one from getting at his length
between them: a common trick played by frolicsome
country lasses on their sweethearts, male relations, or
  visitors.

The British Library has a few pages from the 1785 edition.  Seems like Francis Grose was quite a character.

The officious bystander test:
Had an officious bystander been present at the time the contract was made and had suggested that such a term should be included, it must be obvious that both parties would have agreed to it.
Shirlaw v Southern Foundries [1939] 2 KB 206

The man on the Clapham omnibus is a hypothetical reasonable person, used by the courts in English law where it is necessary to decide whether a party has acted in the way that a reasonable person should - for example, in a civil action for negligence. The man on the Clapham omnibus is a reasonably educated and intelligent but nondescript person, against whom the conduct of the defendant can be measured. This concept was used by Greer LJ in the case of Hall v. Brooklands Auto-Racing Club (1933)

Both can be used still

I think barbie is fine. I had a bunch of barbie dolls when growing up and didn't feel like I had to look like her. a doll should not inspire your children to be thin or to want to be a doctor, a doll shouldn't be a role model.  I think it  comes down to parenting.

I'm late, I know...
BUT, why is it that internet laymen told me about this?  I'm guessing that it is because the heard about it through some 6.30 tabloid television show.  The thing that gets me is though, if all sorts of drugs are being peddled there, I hate to think of what else goes through the place.
There is the side of the 'net where people share stuff that usually is paid for, but really is not harming anyone besides over-zealous IP owners.  Then there is the side the police turn up at your door in the morning for.  I have a bad feeling that is the sort of thing that is moved on silkroad as well as drugs.
I don't want to go anywhere near such a place.
Sure torrents are used to move that sort of materials, but it ain't listed on any torrent site I use, and I refuse to use a site that could be used to traffic such material.

I watched the videos on snopes smokes, worth a try.  But I like to think of these stories as existent but only never for us to hear about.

....In Search Of is the poo!  Nothing better than Mr. Spock posing illogical answers to irrational questions.  Pure genius ;D

And the synth work is brilliant as bgm.  Loved that show as a kid (it was on every saturday afternoon just before the news).  A few years ago I tracked down the entire catalogue and started to rewatch them.  Interesting in some ways to note that the late 70's and early 80's seem a scientific back-water compared to now, and also to see the human imagination go wild with scientific discoveries, such as the advances in our understanding of genetics and what some thought it mean, cloning and such.

Snopes is a great site too, sorta the opposite of ...In Search Of.  But the thing I have noticed about learning about hoaxes and received consensus is that it only serves in becoming more frustrated.  Like when I am told I will blow the petrol station/airport sky-high if I use my mobile phone.  I feel like doing it, copping the penalty only to fight it in court and use facts to win and remove the ignorant rule.  But I know that in the end it will be won by the big-boys because they will point to the terms and conditions which don't need any basis in reality to be binding....

It's a new version of an old geometric illusion:

The hypotenuse in both the triangles look straight, but they're not.  Get a straight-edge and check.  Or use that trigonometry you learnt in school to calculate the angles on each of the two triangles within the larger one and see that they are not the same.  Or don't even do that, just note that the vertical side of larger triangle is 1.5 times higher than the smaller, thus the horizontal should also be 1.5 times longer than the small for the angles of the hypotenuses to match, which in this case, given that the smaller is 5 units by 2 units, should be 7.5 units not 8.

BUT lynx not maths.....

Maybe google is just poo?

I turned off the advertising on my new favourite search engine, DuckDuckGo (https://duckduckgo.com/), and they asked if I could paste some links about the place as a favour for letting me search the worldwideweb'net ad-free, so I had a look at the links and figured they were good.

120 days and I still think of this thread.
http://www.allmusic.com/
^I really like this one.  Lots of interesting news, and allows me to browse music without listening to it.  Lots of info on artists, but I am unsure of the accuracy of all these descriptions, much like Pandora.  That said, Official Band Websites would be the best place to read musician info.  Unless you're looking up the White Stripes:) Also fan websites, big ones, have a lot of stories and info.

I also like the Itcher website, I mentioned it in the apps thread. . I forgot the other movie comparison/recommendation website I used to use. . and it's not rotten tomatoes or IMDB (which I never use for movie recommendations. . it's the only website used popularly, which means it often recommends poo movies)

Star Trek? ("The Measure of a Man").

... but probably before.

I'm not sure about Brent Spiner in Outcast. He's gone all the way from pure logic to the spirit world.  Had his character been a cellphone or a microwave oven, it wouldn't have seemed such a stretch.

Not seen "Outcast". Didn't like the first 10 minutes of the first episode.

I like it.

One thing that is right about it where TWD fails, is that there is swearing in it.  I could never understand how someone could be surrounded my zombos while having their nearest and dearest munched on, and the worst profanity they can think of is "damn" (prolly more like "darn" now I think of it).

The air would be blue if it were me.

I've never seen TWD (not a zombie fan) but I know it's on AMC over here.  Normally, the new shows on AMC are looser with the swearing.  Not the f-bomb or GD of course, but most other words are on the table.

I don't think that is ever going to hit mass production as it is essentially a DIY tool.  A DIYer is never going to pay 60 bucks.
