Title: Fallout 3

Do not play this scallywag game!

You will get sucked in and many, many hours will pass and before you've realized it it's nearly sunrise.

My buddy and I dove in on Friday and I didn't go to bed until nearly 6:00 am...  :D

I am Level 19, good guy, a Saint, used the law Giver perk and I am now a Regulator. Don't know how many day's I have been playing, it's a lot of hours.  ;D

I am right into it now, finished about 19 quest's and still have halve the map to explore.

Got the dog, his name is "Dogmeat" and he will find you ammo and stuff.  ;D

We barely scratched the game, and if everything else Bethesda's made is any indication, just because you haven't seen half the map doesn't mean you're anywhere near the middle of the game.  :D

Dogmeat is awesome, he's even better than in the original games because he's actually more of a nuisance to the people you're fighting. It's awesome to have them distracted and be able to clobber them with a melee weapon before they know what's going on. Saves on ammo... :)

I keep Dogmeat in my house, don't want anything to happen to him.

Better with the Terrible Shotgun. It is in the possession of Smiling Jack in the Evergreen Mills bazaar.

Dogmeat dies pretty easily near the end of the main quest or on higher difficulty missions.

You can get a perk that animals will help you.

So Dogmeat will live in my game.  ;D

If you play it on PC you can hit the tilde key and enter this code:

Dogmeat will be set as an essential NPC which means he'll only ever go unconscious.

But that's only if yer into cheats... ;)

Honestly, the game still runs pretty smooth and is still very detailed even on the lowest possible settings. It looks pretty damn impressive actually, so unless you're a real stickler for high end graphics you should be cool.

If you just wanna play the game it will do you just fine.  ;D

I have replayed it 3 times, but I always end up making the same character :l

Small arms, repair, lockpick and stealth.

Big arms suck and melee is a waste of stimpacks

Bummer, I'm a ntural at melee in most games. It calls for that special kind of kami kazi crazy.
Title: Re: Fallout 3

melee is not bad, but since most enemies use ranged weapons like assault rifles and miniguns, betting close will mean getting a lot of damage and not using cover

No, you're probably thinking of Left 4 Dead or possible even the upcoming Resident Evil 5. Fallout 3 is a post-nuclear holocaust survival game.

The Fallout series has ghouls, but they're people who are kinda undead due to a mutation from heavy nuclear radiation exposure. They are intelligent and cooperative and do not eat flesh. ;)

The face kinda. Different beard.

It's funny how giving some water to a beggar in middle of the dessert can move you from Scourge of Humanity to Humanity's Last hope. That is the main problem I see with the karma system, it just doesn't affect much, specially the weak ending. And it needs more factions to join and do missions to, I think Oblivion beats that and I have barely done any of the quest while I have 20 on hold. It's funny how you can put apocalypse on hold to go pickpocket some woman.
Title: Re: Fallout 3

I prefer the genre Fallout 3 is in more than the fantasy element of Oblivion.

I still haven't finished Oblivion, that game is really bless'ed big.
Title: Re: Fallout 3
Post by: indie180 on February 13, 2009, 02:13:11 AM
I liked the level up system in Oblivion better then Fallout 3, instead of having points to dish out, it was the more you used a skill the better you got at it.

I had heard Fallout 3 was supposed to be even bigger then Oblivion, that's why I was disappointed with the level cap.

Windows Vista/XP
Processor 2.4GHz
Memory 1 GB Ram
6 GB free hard drive space
NVIDIA Geforce 6800

It's on the PS3 I have played them both, but I think there is a download for the PC version of Fallout to lift the level cap so you can get up to level 100 and max out all your skill's.

If you are thinking about getting Oblivion, get the Game of the Year edition it has the 2 expansion packs in it. Or as we are all members of another site, you should know where to look.  ;)

I just recently came across this place called The Sewer Waystation, which is just a little northwest of Greyditch (for those playing the game). It ultimately houses one of the entrances to the main sewer system running beneath the Capitol Wasteland, but otherwise it looks to have been converted into a teddy bear factory.

Lined up on conveyor belts are teddy bears, and on closer inspection of some of them, someone put a few of them in suggestive positions. Keep in mind I did not set these up, they were found this way in the game.  ;):

I was in there early in the game, so I just grabbed everything that's wasn't nailed down to sell, so I never noticed but I did wonder what all the teddies were for.

I have a much stronger character now after restarting the game and I'm back up to level 19

Yeah, I kept walking by the place, but wanted the XP for finding it so I went inside. I tend to scour locations so I found the bears.  :D

You're almost maxed out in levels then, it stops at 20. Are you playing the PC version?

You should go back and take a look at what the teddy bears are doing now!!

Maybe they've multiplied!

That for the PC version. ?

I would use that one as well as I don't think that really cheating, it's part of the fun of the game going up a level.  ;D At level 20 there are lots of new perks to choose from.

Whats the other one. ?

I tag Dogmeat as an essential NPC so he only goes unconscious and doesn't die. It's hard with not being able to change his temperament to keep him from getting himself in over his head, so that helps. Again, not really cheating, per se..

The '###' is the level you want the new cap to be set to - keep in mind anything much past 50 or so is going to be fairly useless... :)

EDIT: When I got enough XP to get to level 29, the game had a pretty bad bug that made it hang, so don't go past 28. ;)

And I just picked up a plasma rifle from a lone Enclave guy I managed to sneak-critical attack (had to reload a bunch :D), I can't wear his Tesla Armor because I haven't gotten the power armor training, but I can use the gun. With the plasma rifle, if you do a critical attack that results in the enemy's death, he will disintegrate into a pile of steaming goo:

The Merchant Empire quest got bent up for me as the some Death Claws got into town and killed a few people, one of which was the quest giver.

Still I found the "Lucky Shades"

Yeah, The Vault wiki (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Wiki) (an invaluable tool for the game, by the by) warns of that scenario - I'm assuming this is the quest from Canterbury Commons?

It says that groups of giant radscorpions or deathclaws will spawn near or in town and kill everyone there. This seems to me to be a bug or something, unless that's the ultimate upshot of getting the super-hero and super-villain to stop fighting is that the town becomes vulnerable to attack.

But it's got two mercenaries that live in it, can't either of them help out? It seems they aren't very god at what they do despite their bragging...  :D

I also have managed to discover these two obnoxiously powerful weapons:

Firelance

This one was a gimme. As I approached one of the power stations on the map, there was the sond of a jet flying overhead and a colorful explosion that looked like fireworks. As I stood there watching for anything that might be an enemy, these little glowing rods began falling from the sky:

They turn out to be 'alien power cells' and as I looked for them, I ran across that little laser pistol called Firelance.

This is apparently a once a game random encounter, so if you see it happen scour for the cells and especially the gun as it will not appear again.

If you have all the damage and targeting perks, this weapon is almost 100% critical and does over 500 points of damage per round.

Experimental MIRV

This is found in the National Guard Bunker in a blast shelter that can only be accessed after picking up tapes around the Wasteland that give you the access code.

The thing is a monster and it fires 8 mini-nukes at once! One blast from this thing will annihilate pretty much anything in the game, even Super Mutant Behemoths. Not to mention that it's virtually impossible to escape the blast radius or radiation damage effect (especially indoors).

It's a ton o' fun in god mode, though... :)

It was one of my mate's that told me about that quest. The thing that pisses me of is not having the traders repair skills going up to 85%.

Ol Painless is my fav and most used weapon, but I also have the Lincoln repeater which is pretty good.

Ol Painless can be repaired with Hunting Rifles, the Lincoln can only be repair with Ol Painless.

I also bent a few of the quests around Tenpennys Towers because I "Shot Em in the Head" as soon as I seen him and ended up killing the ghouls which I felt bad about.

guess you'll have to work on that repair skill yourself then, eh?

I don't think I've even seen those guns...  :-\

Ah, don't worry about it too much, if you'd managed to get Tenpenny to let the ghouls live in the tower it doesn't take long before they kill all the smoothskins anyway, so it's kind of a damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't kind of thing...

It's interesting that you can kill Tenpenny anytime and you'll get a huge Karma bonus...  :D
Title: Re: Fallout 3

I blow him away as soon as I meet him as part of another quest, by then it was to late, so I fecked at least one other quest and the outcome of another and getting another house, but I haven't been back so  ???
Title: Re: Fallout 3
Post by: JackFrost on March 10, 2009, 08:21:38 PM
You actually can't get the place in Tenpenny Tower unless you complete a quest for a guy named Mr. Burke who you can meet in Moriarity's Saloon early in the game. Burke is Tenpenny's right-hand man...

He wants you to blow up the bomb at the center of Megaton doing that will cause your Karma to fall to -1000 (bottom of the scale) no matter where it was before and virtually everyone will hate you. So as you can see, you'll be playing a significantly different game than the ones you have been trying to be the hero.  ;)

But if you do take the quest, apparently you watch the explosion from Tenpenny Tower, and Tenpenny might even let you throw the switch.  :D

I haven't played it that way, but I kinda want to...  :D

I nicked them the other day.

Great to have the level cap raised to 30, but I would mind it going to 40...

I traded it in to Game and got ?13, then pre-ordered the Game of the Year Edition from Game (online) for ?29.99 with free delivery. I figured that would be cheaper then getting all 5 DLC's from the PS3's DL shop.  :-\

If you order it on line it's free delivery.

"The price quoted for a preorder title is the anticipated retail selling price at the time of release. Should the price be reduced you will be charged the lower price at the time of your order being dispatched. Should the price increase - you will not pay any more! Money is taken just prior to release."

They can't guarantee what the price be in the shop.

You should set up an account and register your reward card online.

A lot of their games are cheaper buying them online, it free delivery and only takes a couple of days in the post and you still get your reward points.

You can't use gift card's online, but you can use your reward card.

You have to use a gift card within a certain time period it might by 2 yrs or it could be only a yr. I got caught out when I traded in a ps2 (can't remember how long ago) but the card was blank, no cash on it. So watch out for that, also any games you trade in go on a gift card and not the reward card. So you can only use gift cards in the shop.

During the summer steam sale fallout 3 was five dollars. I figured I'd just port my retail over. Nope, steam rejects the retail key. I hear they allow retail keys for fallout: new vegas, so I was confused.

I emailed bethesda support, and they claimed that the two versions of the game were incompatible.

So I dropped the six bucks. But I decided to try an experiment. I tracked down the folder where steam installs fallout 3. it's
Quote
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout 3 goty
for me.

Then I grabbed everything in the bethesda fallout 3 folder.
Quote
C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3

Dumped it in the steam folder, and fired up steam. Miraculously it claimed that fallout 3 was fully installed!

So Bethesda lied to me.

I'm rolling the maximum skill guide this time, and that ramps early difficulty up something fierce. I usually invest heavily in stealth and lockpick, and steal everything I need. I can still be sneaky, but I have to put more work into it with the lower skill. I'm at level 17 and it's just now starting to level out.

As to the infamous Teddy Bear factory, all those poses are intentional. You'll find small things like that throughout the wasteland. In the robco factory, you can find a voyeur with a camera, who was attempting to get toilet pictures. You can also find a robot on a toilet, who has crapped out scrap metal.

In the Chryslus building, you will find lawn gnomes in toilets, holding protest signs.

In Seward Square there is a man who has blown his own head off in a freight truck. Be careful, as he has booby trapped the location.

Almost forgot. If you pickpocket the weapons you sell to Protector Casdin, they are fully repaired. I took in 11 laser pistols, 30 rifles, and 2 plasma rifles. They're all at 100%.

It has been a couple months now but I was hunting Super Mutants for XP when I ran across my first Super Mutant Behemoth. Thought I was dead but he got stuck (running in place) behind a light pole. I had all day to kill him with a low level weapon I only picked up to sell. Got a good laugh out of that. I paid $20.00 for the Xbox GOTY Edition and would say it was well worth every penny.

Yeah, the GOTY version adds so much to the base game it's not even funny.

Still, I'm glad I got it on the PC as opposed to 360.

Fallout 3. Live the dream.  ;D

The original Bethseda Fallout was the first PC game I ever played and it taught me exactly how OCD I can get. I loved all three--even the somewhat lame Fallout Tactics. I have to warn folks away from getting the White Label release of these earlier Fallouts as it's a bit buggy.

Bumping the long dead, but well worth it. My dog is a dead ringer for dogmeat despite being a girl, and I was just thinking how much more difficult fallout 3 would be with her around.

Aside from the constant feeding, I'm pretty sure if you asked her to go get ammo she'd just stare at you and wag her retarded nonexistent tail.

About to re-launch fallout 3 after a long while. I played NV; and it was decent, but not as good as fallout 3. Maybe it is because the deathclaws are way way way harder...

8ullfrog, you still haven't played NV?

There are actually several portraits available, I saw them by going through the files for a mod. I'm not sure how they figure on James being black, considering he's one of the first things you see in the game.

so I am unable to do the anchorage glitch with gary 23. the wiki says to throw him in the pod, and look at him. then do the sim, and when the loading screen hits, look downward and hit the activate key (F)

Problem is, it wants me to look to the left every time I exit the sim, and am unable to activate the body.

Ideas?

I managed it, but it was a madam, you only have a one second window in which to pull it off.

I quick saved before exiting the simulation, but that was the point where I burned out on my second play through, as I missed an intel case.

The original Fallout was the first pc game I ever played. I remember it with fondness even though it made an addict of me.
Fallout 3 is great fun... and like an earlier post said, a real time sump.

nfo: I've never played any xbox or ps games; I'm willing to buy a used ps3 just so I can play Last of Us.
