Title: What video game(s) are you playing?
Post by: brickbatz on September 08, 2013, 03:45:04 PM
Playing Outlast (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YHi4-Nh6VY) with headphones, for effect. I'm waiting for it to get dark to continue so I get the full benefit of this scary game.

Quote
Outlast is a psychological horror video game developed and published by Red Barrels for Playstation 4 and PC. In the remote mountains of Colorado, horrors wait inside Mount Massive Asylum. A long-abandoned home for the mentally ill, recently re-opened by the "research and charity" branch of the transnational Murkoff Corporation, has been operating in strict secrecy... until now. Acting on a tip from an inside source, independent journalist Miles Upshur breaks into the facility, and what he discovers walks a terrifying line between science and religion, nature and something else entirely. Once inside, his only hope of escape lies with the terrible truth at the heart of Mount Massive.

I think Star Trek 2013 will be next.

Lately I've been playing a lot of minecraft. I bought a spot in a server and now I'm hosting it there... I've been playing that quite a bit.... I'll be playing Tera quite a bit starting this week now though

I hear Outlast is a good game. Not really my thing, I find myself only lasting about 10 minutes before I exit them.  ::)

All I play are Civ V and TF2 PropHunt. If I ever play anything else it's for the cards and then it's straight back to those 2.

This morning (3:00AM) I'm playing Outlast with headphones on, in the dark. My old lady sneaks in on her hands and knees, grabs me and screams AAAARRRRR. I nearly poo myself.

Finished Outlast. It had a strange ending. Just starting Star Trek 2013.

Just tried it on the easiest setting, I suck at it, closed tab.

8ullfrog was right, Star Trek isn't the best game I ever played.

It has 9 levels of difficulty.  Once I got over 100k on 4.  But since then, I've gone up to the speedy difficult setting.  It's hard to get over 30k there.  Tetrises are work 12k points, though, so it does reward you even as it makes achieving them nigh impossible.

There is a mission in Star Trek Online that is only available on Friday the 13th. It rewards you with an extremely useful adviser officer, and is horror themed.

I can of course, understand your aversion to the MMO experience.

I stopped playing Star Trek and started Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs.

If you ever decide to play STO, let me know, I can help you gear up regarding your career. You choose to be a tactical, science, or engineering officer. Tactical is probably the closest thing to easy mode, and playing an engi is a stone madam.

I have been playing Megarace.  I finished the first game and am currently stuck on the second game.  I started playing without cheating and after great effort made it past the Tibet level.  A few levels later, I became annoyed with my measly funds and started a new game with the "money speed map" switches.

I'm stuck on Tibet again.

I finally got around to getting back to Tera. I'm about nine levels from max level right now. My team has been slacking on me for the past few months so I haven't been able to get anything done there.

Yesterday I completed all 100 levels of Frozen Bubble.  It might have been cheating because I was playing the android version and using the stylus.  I recall the PC version being harder.  Anyway, level 99 was very difficult, the trick is to keep trying.

The 2nd free game from Xbox this month is TC's RainbowSix Vegas. Just downloaded that and I'm going to start it now. I played it on the PC but the big screen should be nice. I'm also playing Resident Evil 6 on the PC.

Dragon Age 1 and Majesty 2.

Mostly Rome II... a great Total War game but it still has a few weird bugs.
And replaying Bioshock, Telltales Games' Walking Dead (it makes me sad to see poor Clementine get abused by the world), Left4Dead. I really want to play Last of Us which is the smartest game I've seen. It's better than most movies (in the apocalypse survivor genre); it's like the real talent is working in the games industry instead of Hollywood.

Instead of movies lately, I've been watching walkthroughs on theradbrad's channel.
Currently watching Bioshock Infinite.

I enjoyed Skyrim except it kept forcing me into taking bad moral actions. If you want to complete every quest you hafta do stuff that sullies your character. I prefer to play the good guy...

I noticed that too working on the assassin missions and they give you some strange things to do in one part I had to lure a guy to some cannibals. I did and just before they killed and ate him I had a change of heart and they felt my swift sword of justice

I played the 1st part of Call of Duty: Ghosts then thought I'd try State of Decay after watching a YouTube video. I just figured out how to make a game save and quit without losing anything. If you change characters the game auto-saves and you can quit.

Yeah, I was mistaken when I thought this game was another Dead Island. I had Maya solo, running over zombies like I did in Dead Island. The Hoard came out, tore the car apart and killed Maya. The game then auto-saved. Next cutscene MAYA IS DEAD. I think I'll start over and not agro the Hoard.  ;D

I finished Skyrim and I have to say that Alduin was a big girls blouse compared to my character. It was fun, nonetheless.

Mashed up Dark Messiah of Might and Magic in 3 days (who'd pay for that?) and I am about to install Enslaved.  However, as I have the complete box set of "Monkey", I think I'll watch that that with the kids first.

Grimrock is much better as it doesn't claim to be anything else but a dungeon crawler. You can just get stuck in and wade through to the end.

I was so impressed with Legend of Grimrock, that I have started to play Grimlock II.

The first was low budget but immensely playable. The second instalment has much richer graphics but hasn't sold out and has kept the same straight forward controls. It does have deeper menus and controls over the characters, but I feel that was probably needed.

Been playing Borderlands 2 for over 2 years on the Xbox. I just bought the GOTY (Game Of The Year) Edition from Steam for the PC. Milady thinks I'm ate up with this game but she has all 6 characters maxed out on the Xbox too. I figure when she has the TV, watching Christmas movies on The Hallmark Channel  :P, I can play it on my PC. (USD $9.99)

Grimlock II was ok (not as good as the first) and if you didn't know of the true ending to it, the normal ending would have been a massive disappointment.

I think I'll get rid of Risen 3 before I move on to the big games I have waiting for attention.

When I first heard of Shadow, I thought it was rubbish and not very lore driven--just a run & gun with swords but it's actually a decent game. Assassin's Creed-like with an acceptable attempt to respect Tolkien's vision.

In Skyrim, I couldn't bring myself to do the assassin quests, especially when the target was a nice guy, or at least, apparently so.  I had the same feeling of guilt with the thieves guild, but the desire to "max out" was just too strong.

I can't find time to finish Risen 3.  I've built up a powerful character for the final battles but I'm still stuck clearing out the 'gators, apes, giant crabs and all the other annoyances.

I need a few hours to put the damn game to rest, once and for all.

Just Cause 2 on the 360. Mom picked me up a triple pack because it was the same price new as the game itself in used condition. I liked the Island of Panau a lot. The factions were not particularly sympathetic, and one leader, Bolo, managed to make my mom mad. The enemy patter also pissed her off. Some of the missions were repetitive, and the game uses the 3 factions to pad a fairly short campaign. One stronghold for the Ular boys was repeated twice, but that may have been a bug.

Commuting can be a pain, and missions often leave you twenty clicks out in the boondocks.

Buying vehicles is nearly pointless, as they don't last long and are super expensive.

Weapon upgrades are worhwhile, but choose carefully. I fully upgraded the pistol, and was disappointed. I next upgraded the smg, and was impressed.

Armor and health upgrades are pointlessly chained together, and to an easter egg hunt from hell.

Overall, the game is much like the first installment, a beautiful, empty sandbox. Can't decide on tomb raider or sleeping dogs next.

Wish me luck, if my medical results improve I may get to stop being a bubble boy soon.

Good luck, 8ully.

I have a habit at the moment of installing games but never starting them.  I'm scared of getting too involved.

I don't think that'll ever change as there is so much to do and so little time.

Sleeping dogs is really fun. I wish the writers were given a tv series, the coversations and mission flow feel organic and fun. I complained about how chore like Just Cause 2 was, the only mission I found frustrating was karaoke, but that had to do with the controls, not the mission.

Playing Resident Evil 0. It's a remastered version of the 2002 Gamecube version. Slightly better controls, resolutions higher than 1080p if you have the hardware for it. Small ass inventory that keeps you running back and forth dropping items and coming back for them later. It's still a fun game after all these years.

Quote
The story of Resident Evil 0 takes players back to 1998. Reports have been mounting about unusual murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. The city’s Special Forces division, S.T.A.R.S., sends their Bravo Team - including rookie cop member Rebecca Chambers - to investigate. On route, the team’s helicopter suffers engine trouble and is forced to make a crash landing, where they find an overturned prisoner transport vehicle. Splitting up to search the area, Rebecca discovers the Ecliptic Express, a train stopped dead on the tracks. Inside, she meets death row convict and ex-Navy lieutenant Billy Coen. Throughout the game, you will take control of both Rebecca and Billy, at times switching between both characters in order to proceed. Learning the advantages of each character is the key to solving puzzles and surviving the nightmares that lie ahead.

Unless you really want to organize raids and be the person who folks turn to for help & advice, I'd say the game is more leisurely when not running a kin. Obviously, it's your call.

I spent about six months on phone with no computer. Disassembling it to components and putting it back together bought some play time in july, and I also built a machine from the garbage. My STO fleet was gone. I wasn't removed, it was just gone. Kinda killed the mmo spirit. L4D is great multi fun, but I imagine after borderlands it could seem a bit simple. Sorry about losing your elf tribe b.

One neat or annoying thing in L4D, the characters don't know about selection switches, so most rifles fire in three round bursts.

Yes, and it was actually Hogwulf (Hogbro) that inherited the kin. My bad : ) It works out.  It's basically just us.  I'm still in the one Randeirum (know I'm spelling that wrong) with you.  & I"m in Under the Sunlit Sky with Miri, and I'm in a few more, yeah ;)

Man, 8ully.  I'dda quit too if I didn't have my characters or something.  It's happened only once where my VIP was up and had to cut two characters.
Everything went pretty smooth this time, and last time Miri logged them in for me, my friend from t and I's kin. the oldschool crew.

Batman: Arkham City.  I have Asylum, City, Origins, and Knight to play.  Hadn't played any yet.  Was going to try and play them in order (at least a little of each) but I can't get Asylum to start on my Win10 (throwing a .Net 3.5 error) so I moved on to City.

So far, I'm enjoying it a lot although I'm stuck on the GCPD building.  I'll figure out the right tactic but for now I'm just enjoying gliding around the city getting riddles and achievements.

I've been rolling through some tycoon app games, tattoo tycoon, city building ones ect.  Haven't found another I liked as well as tattoo tycoon, it was a fun couple hours.
I have an android now, so I am becoming accustomed to having dictionaries, translators, encyclopedias ect..  right on hand, it's fun.
I've also been trying to find interactive apps for the kids.  My son still likes angry birds and jetpack joyride the best, but I did get him to check out some doodle games & puzzle types.  He's not as interested in the flash card type reading ones though.  He knows words better than any 6 year old I know, writing them with ease as well, but trying to get him to use those words other than spelling and reading (language & speaking for instance) is difficult despite his responsive attitude towards phonics the last couple of years.
I'm always open to suggestions about anything: apps, autism, adhd, the children or their education.  For anyone who is interested in sharing.
I do watch their diets very closely & give vitamins to help their bio functioning.  I also spend the majority of our time together with them.  I physically show them their responsibilities, their independent duties & dependent responsibilities to speak up for themselves when they need something, respect & interact with others, and ways to interact with me and the home.
Mom and I are looking into therapies in the home.  Pretty extensive work and the therapy could become home school schedule based.  Which to me, if it's individual therapy based on ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) then I will be satisfied, for the time being, until I move to a town that has schools specifically for Autism (there are two about 40 minutes away) or there is a town that is better suited in activism and schooling for Autism just a half hour north.

I continue to play new vegas. I think this is my 30th character. I'm trying to do the bare minimum to progress my character and not redecorate the landscape, but it's freakin' hard not to. I tried to do a straight shot to vault 3 for package delivery and skill book pickup, but veronica ran off and assasinated cook cook. Yes he deserved to die, but I meant to do that later!

Also she won't take off the arclight helmet. Better than the bone skull helmet I guess.

Mage, fighter, assassin, thief, blade, pit dog, order member, knight (three types), merc, deadric lord?

I read an interesting story where a member of the dark brotherhood catches the player doing quests for the thieves guild, and bitches them out for being dressed as the archmage.

"About that..." replies the character.

Because you could lead all the guilds.

I actually found that fairly liberating. I gave up on Deus Ex: Invisible War because the game kept bitching me out for not specializing.

In NV I've been sneaking around with silenced weapons killing legion members while being dressed as a legion recruit, and it feels seriously OP.

I spent a lot to build my PC but games are so much cheaper on Steam, and those other sites we don't talk about here, than console games. There are several videos on YouTube that show how to build a gaming PC for ~$500.00. I just bought Shadow Warrior, a $39.99 game, for $3.99. It doesn't take long for the savings to catch up with the initial cost of building a PC.

I can hardly believe I'm playing Skyrim.

When it was first released I got bored with Skyrim pretty quickly. Played it on the Xbox 360. Just bought it and all the DLC on PC for about $15.00 (USD). On August 28 Bethesda will give the new remastered version to anyone that has the game and all DLC, for free. It's a PC exclusive. Console players will have to shell out the full $60.00 (USD) if they want the remastered version.

Why on earth didn't they remaster an older Elder Scrolls.  I couldn't really get into Oblivion and now after being spoilt by Skyrim, I doubt I ever will. Unless they remaster it, of course.

I liked Oblivion. There's a ton (tonne y'all) of texture mods to make it beautiful. Other developers could take a lesson from Bethesda and make modding easier.

I might give that another go.

The revamped Skyrim looks fantastic but I rarely play a game twice. As I'm more of an RPGer, the story is the most important aspect of the game and you can't un-know an ending.

I'll try it with you when I have another ps3, or internet, I figure it may be ps3 &ps4 only??

Got an email from Bethesda...

Gratz. I beat SR 3. You can tell when the publisher pressed the "golly you developers, it's done" button. During the development of the zombie part. They introduce the mayor (the game files show it was stunt casting) and during the zombie survival mode, they have two vehicles that make sense - ambulance, hearse, and generic gang truck. That was the line.

The DLC expansions were okay, but steelport was very empty compared to sr2. I'd say 60% of the cqmpaign was activity missions. Granted, some of those were the most fun I've had gaming.

Clearing the stag bases, murderbrawl, there was some inspired stuff in there.

I loaded up oblivion again because of course I did. Knocked a minotaur horn off a shelf and got suspended from the mages guild. Fuuuuuuuu.

Getting reinstated is one of the most horrible fetch quests ever. You're collecting pink and yellow flowers. Of which there are 50 in game, non respawning, and the entire area is different pink and yellow flowers. Collecting plants is never a 100% success rate. So you get that too.

And a rat bit me and it cut my carry limit in half!

And even after clearing everything up, people are dicks because I have 1 infamy and 0 fame.

It actually made the grinding from guild wars seem fun.

I'm playing a new release called Mafia III. It's locked at 30 FPS, it crashes for some, it's repetitive and the graphics suck. It's not worth the $60.00 price tag. 2K said they're working on a patch to unlock the framerate but that hasn't happened yet. That kind of poo seems to happen a lot when they port a game from console to PC. I feel for the people that bought the game. ::) Why they would release a AAA title in this state is beyond me.

I actually have a subscription to game informer because I needed the discount for my replacement 360 ($120) doesn't sound like a jet engine, won't rrod, got a new controller, and all I do is play oblivion again :P

Anyway, when I saw that they were trying to work in a multiracial cast while still keepin' it real TM, I knew the game was in trouble. When I saw a lot of the features were "poo the devs saw in fo4 and orgasmed over" I knew it would be a shitshow.

2k has really been phoning it in as well.

Frankly, Mafia was an ok gta clone that managed to avoid being tagged with the gta clone sticker by setting the game in ancient history, vehicle wise. The plot was surprisingly good, and the game was a hit. But I didn't really see a franchise in it.

[Forgot to mention, mafia is the ONLY time I have enjoyed the sawed off shotgun, or lupella as the game terms it]

I was looking forward to the second game despite that, but they turned it into a microtransaction poo show, so I still haven't played it, but I have heard some less than positive reviews to offset the glowing ones.

But yeah, the early look in game informer showed me that mafia III was going to be a mess.

So I started oblivion again. Why? I found out you can buy pre-filled grand soul gems. Before that I ground up to lvl 15 just so I could summon a master level shitghost to fill up soul gems.

I was in those not fun teen levels where bears OHK you unless you spam summons, and not having a  good time again, and then found out all I needed was 800 septims a hit.

Then I found out I forgot to save my lvl 1 sewer exit save, and cursed sheggorath again.

I'll probably get to skyrim when I'm nursing home age.

And I've been feeling an itch to revisit the capitol wasteland, need to kill that richard 3 dog again.

I like 3 dog as a DJ, he's a cool dude there, but the actual interactions and he wildly inappropriate vis a vis difficulty quest he assigns for bless'ed bread crumbs makes me feel like hitting gamestop and picking it up for 360.

Or I could tell mom to get rid of some furniture so I can set up my computer.

Dang 8ully, set up the PC. I haven't bought a game for my 360 in over a year. You know how much cheaper games are for PC. I buy games cheaper on G2A and activate them on Steam. I set up my old PC for my gal and we play co-op Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel. She can't use a mouse and keyboard but the 360 controllers work for most games. I know you don't pirate games but I'm sure glad I didn't pay $60.00 for Mafia III. I play pirated games and buy the games if I like them (Borderlands, BL2, BL The Pre-Sequel, Skyrim, Oblivian, Fallout 3-Vegas-4...)

Nice. I'm doing the Indiana Jones questline in Oblivion. Never knew the ayelid kings were vampires. That explains the fall of their empire.

I figure the orsinium invasion failed because all orcs are bless'ed rude idiots.

Aside from gram bro yogurt who runs slash and smash, I have little use for orks.

The book store in leyawiin is amusing though "buy a damn book or get out!"

I also like how he bitches while you ring up your purchases "all the other orks think I'm a wuss, screw them!"

Really surprised I never found the indiana jones questline before, but I bless'ed hate full map fetch quests, and the first part requieres you to hit up ten different ruins.

I did find it amusing when my employer said "it's clear you're not just a run of the mill tomb raider!

And of course, the thrift shop being called "good as new" is funny as poo. Bethesda must  be goodwill addicts like me.

I'm stuck. I want to get the achievement for investing in all the shops, but the next guild mission results in one of the shops exploding.

It's bad enough the fighters guild questline had me save a town, then get high on sap and kill all the residents (they appeared as monsters)

Leveling merchantile takes forever, and there is no fun way to do it. At least with the magic skill I could launch low level skills, but with merchantile, there is no visible progress between levels.

I hear blood dragon is good fun.

I've wiped out castle skingrad several times rescuing amusei from the castle staff, even picked up a title - slop drudge.

At leas t in bethesda games you can tell the npc to wait in a safe area, but sometimes you have to bear down with ammunition and be a moving wall of death.

In another thread, I talked about trying to power level the mercantile skill, something the designers seem to have discouraged. Rather than go by gold spent, they go by sales made. Not amount sold, but transactions. So 200 arrows at once would be one sale, when one arrow sold 200 times would count as 200 sales.

I read that the magic number is 25550 transactions. Thankfully, I already knew about the per item sales strategy, and power leveled alchemy.

I was sitting on a lot of gold, and a lot of dead bandit arrows. There are specific caves that only hold bandits, so getting 1000 iron arrows was easy. I sold arrows while listening to music, and eventurally crossed the invisible threshold where I can now proceed.

Not much fun, I'd rather do an insta-fail stealth mission or sneak some retarded npc's on a field trip.

I saw your tip qbout skyrim, but I've got it on 360 and PC. I'll probably play something a bit more modern, with guns and cars next, the olden times setting is starting to get to me, no matter how awesome my mage is.

What I'd really like to do is dump my mage in fallout 3. One of my starting spells would undo the main questline. Oh? You want me to irradiate myself to death while my supermutant or ghoul follower watches on? Summon skelleton!
 Flip that switch Mr. Bones!

I heard they really bent up on the port. Videogamdunkey tore them a new one by just showing water to that epic theme. It's true though, when valve ported hl1 to source they crowed about the upgraded graphics, but it was just the water.

I dunno, maybe developers have a hard on for water.

Personally, I don't mind fog as a draw distance crutch, but I've only given a poo about water in a game when it's a problem, like the murkiness filter in oblivion. Pointless layer of complexity.

I'm playing sr3 just to clear the mercantile burnout from obliv. It's a fun game, but heli assault is straight up cowpoo, and I'm glad I don't have to do it for story progression.

poo like heli assault makes me want to call someone and say "guy who came up with heli assault? Yeah, fire him. Unless he also came up with the septic truck minigame. If it is the same guy, he gets a raise, but has to eat cat food for lunch."

I think it was Saints Row IV where there was a mission where you had to follow and protect your crew, in a car, from a chopper with a rocket launcher, then when they were on foot with a sniper rifle. I got so frustrated I quit the game several times before I finally cleared the mission.

I'm almost done with Duke Nukem Forever.

Brick, 2 and 3 hae guardian angel, which is the mission you mention. It's easy as poo. Shoot the engine blocks instead of trying to plink the enemies.

The rocket launcher and car bit, always aim behind peirce.

I finally got to SR IV. Holy poo! It's like they took every 80's/90's blockbuster and jammed it together, the killbots even drag themselves along if you blow their spine out. It's true dedication.

Keith David is there, so maybe I can take out some aggression on the aliens from they live later.

I was under the misconception that the presidency was simulated, but it isn't!

So many memorable missions... and the shitty bless'ed pipe hacking from bioshit.

Yes, I know it's a homage to an older game. No, I don't give a golly. I actually preferred grinding and buying the stores in SR 3, it was like playing monopoly!

I just played through an MI6 agent's fanfic of a shitty vampire show. That is something I never thought I'd type, and I hope it's not too spoilery.

One thing I really like is you get to play all the good parts of those movies, and skip the boring messiah saga of self sacrifice... well, when you aren't mocking the poo out of it.

Seriously, the wachowski siblings poo the bed with those matrix sequels.

There was one poo mission, I believe it was called ufo frenzy, I'm finding myself avoiding vehicles.

I also hit a showstopper bug where a specific mission didn't load because I crossed an invisible checkline too quickly.

There were no tips to fix it, and many admonishments to people experiencing bugs in the game, apparently some self appointed justice league members are SURE it's piracy, but I'll post my fix here.

1) started the mission from the ship (you'll know it when you see it)
I WALKED to the bar. (Broken sheleighleigh) is a madam to spell. No sprinting, no NOS in the car, just gate to bar at a sedate pace.

And then the mission loaded.

Other than that, seriously enjoying the game, and avoiding spoilers is hard. If you can go in knowing as little as possible, you will be rewarded.

Dumped a 15hr save on fo3 because doc hoff ggot ganked, started over and used a guide.

Specifically, he said to go all fives (unmodified) for special, but take int to 9, because that will allow for the maximum number of skill points before perks.

Then you make a blind run from the vault to rivet, not fighting anyone, because you are avoiding leveling. I had a hell of a time with that because of raiders and talon mercs, had to use precious stim packs to survive.

Once you get to rivet, you head down to the lab and snag the intelligence bobblehead, which automatically maxes your intellitence to 10.

At that point the guide cuts you loose, only advising the educated perk.

I died a lot, because I was used to wandering the mojave with maxed out stats and weapons.

I also stumbled a bit because I was used to some weapons mods and repair kits. I am not enjoying having to carry around a nearly busted sniper rifle until I can afford a repair worker. At least in NV I could tote a pair of binocs.

Ah well, I AM having fun back in the wastes.

And I'm sorry, I know Kojima pushed the boundaries on phantom, but it's hard to say it's Kojima gone wild, given PT and Norman reedus vs. Flying sludge space babies.

I have a subscription to a game magazine where all the praised japanese developers (except  Miyamoto) bitched about people telling them to dumb down their weird poo

Hideki Kamiya talked about the hell of American focus groups, and how much he hated the spoiled little shits who hated viewtiful joe.

Someone really does need to let Kajima off the chain. I really wish konami and their pachinko cowpoo the worst.

And I loved konami games. For them to just shitcan all their goodwill and turn into the shitshow they are now is just baffling.

I'm playing Gears of War 4 on PC. My gal wants to play it with her son. It's a decent game (Same old Gears) but I had to buy a Xbox Live GOLD Subscription just for her to play online and the game cost $60.00. It's cross play with Windows 10 and he plays on a Xbone. I reckon it's worth it to her to play with her son. I'm glad my daughter and grandson play on PC where you don't have to pay to play online and games are so much cheaper.

He asked me if her PC would play the game. I had to laugh since he's playing on a console. "Does it have at least 2GB of VRAM?" Ahh, yeah it has 8GB of VRAM. "Does it have at least 4GB of system memory?" Yeah, it has 16GB...

One thing you might find interesting, microsoft was only going to put 256 mb of memory in the 360, but EPIC talked them into 512 with two demos, each designed around the memory limitations. The 512 demo became gears.

Gat out of hell was a lot of fun, but it was stupid short, and should not have been a standalone release.

I chose the retcon ending, which turns Johnny Gat into a cop, leaving everyone but kinzie kensington, Matt Miller, and Johnny Gat in limbo. Seeing as a good portion of the game is devoted to saving the president of the united states, it wasn't what I was hoping for.

Dane vogel, a former antagonist, never double crosses you, which really does make the game feel unfinished. As gat out of hell is the latest installment in the saints row series, one is left wondering if this was a goodbye to the franchise.

I'm doing the xkcd thing, playing games years later. Just started skyrim on 360, and my stock breton is Tony F'in stark, right out of the cave. I didn't know I had the fire spell (hands were bound) so my first spell was spark. Now I just need to paint iron armor red, and I'm there!

I have been playing a lot of lumines on the refurb psp I bought. They gave me a bunk battery, so I'm using one out of my old, dead psp, but even then the battery life is a dice roll. Sometimes I get eight hours, others two. I miss the days of double A portable gaming. That being said, I charged my DS lite ONCE and it started up years later.

There are mobile lumines games, but giving up the physical controls seems weird.

Finally, I've got stock sims 3 up on the laythy box, and I am a lazy sim.

Scorpions are not dinosaurs, they're demons straight from hell, like spiders, or lobsters.

I am digging the brutal kills in skyrim, it's like they said, "hey, we don't have vats, let's make up for it by having the pc break bandits sternums with a knee and punch a dagger through his eye."

Taking down a dragon was less epic than I wanted it to be, but I got a minion out of the deal.

Half way to not having to hobo it up in helgen!

I bought a Wii to play The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and didn't regret it. Don't know if I want to pay $360.00 + tax (7% here - $20.20) for the Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. :-\

$380.00 is a lot of money for one game.

I'm bless'ed pissed they went squidfuck with the controller again. I skipped n64 because playstation slayed the poo out of their controller.

Gamecube had a bless'ed stupid controller too.

The second wii classic controller wasn't bad, but it was too light, especially at the price point they went with. They could have filled the interior with delicious chinese lead for that much money.

But the whole "dead pixels are to be expected" announcement was horseshit. I'd flat out return it if I got one with dead pixels. I'd say it didn't turn on.

I actually don't care for the Special Edition.  I like the PC-based menus better.  Other than that (and with the better graphics mods), the SE doesn't really have anything over on the original PC version (my opinion only, of course).

Depends on the mods. Pretty sure skyrim has a launcher, which lets you decide what gets loaded with a simple checklist.

I started over and decided to level alchemy by making invisibility potions. Expensive ones use

1 Charrus egg
1 Namira's Rot
1 Luna Moth Wing

There is a cave called chillwind depth which has 43 namira's rot, and I picked up 105 Charrus eggs. Luna moth glow, and can be collected in fields at night.

I forgot how squishy a starter mage was. I died a lot and ended up sending Lydia in to go rampage on the falmer. Charrus hit like a mix between a cazador and a yao gui, but I have a self healing spell.

Lydia is gonna sue me for a literal unsafe working environment, but I eventually stopped putting arrows in the back of her head.

True be told, it doesn't really matter.  While it's the "main" story, with all the side missions and DLC, it probably factored in for me about 5% of the time...maybe.  Just enjoy and have fun.  Pick the style of play you like best and go at it. It's a HUGE game.

Same... I use it with Fallout 4 too. Haven't modded Fallout: New Vegas. Same as last time I played it I'm having a problem choosing a faction. I think I should try to kill them all. :-\

With Fallout 4 you can subscribe to mods right on the console. Skyrim is probably like that too.

Just wrapped up gta V, it was a blast, but I feel like games these days are intentionally short to pad out the dlc. Watching the credits, I saw places in San Andreas I never visited. The removal of los venturas and san fierro hurt. Really hurt. golly the fresno and salt lake they added, hell I'd be happy if san fierro got the North Yankton treatment. Just one chase across that bridge...

The heists were dope. I felt invested, and never cheated. Lester was a cold fool, but he pulled his weight.

Trevor...

Trevor never paid off. He went from a growing inferno to "maybe the other two should kill him off, to protect themselves".

His heist is pointless, and derails his dream, as described in the road trip to vinewood.

After that, it's just a grudge against merryweather security.

Franklin got the most payoff, and it wasn't even through the main storyline. By buying the cab company, he makes something of himself, and only has to work one day a week. Not bad for a "legitimate" business man.

Michael is a god damn tragedy. He realizes his true dream in life, finds the son he wishes he had, and then is cut off from him by success.

And if he lives, it's back to that garbage fire of a family.

Essentially, I wish they had just done franklin justice. The character swap was a gimmick, and often walled, with "exile" or "you can't play as him now".

Grove street though? That mission was amazing. The beating heart of GTA V.

And no bless'ed bowling! I didn't even have to golf, just drop a cab fare there.

So I took 8ully's lead and bought the first 3 Mass Effect titles and managed to get them for just £6.50 all in. Everything looked fine until I started the first game and I realised I had the well documented "stuttering" during gameplay. I have spent most of the day messing around with the engine .ini file and have tried a gazillion fixed suggested online.

Nothing has worked.

It appears that my hardware is too far ahead of what the game imagined and other than installing an old, crappy graph card just to run the game (that might not work either), I may have to skip the first game altogether.

Could try it on my laptop for kicks, though.

I've not encountered that error, but my computer was originally built in 2011.

I'd suggest the EA answers HQ, but honestly, it's mostly poo.

Did you buy the Trilogy pack? Or did you do the whole shebang with three purchases nonsense I did?

I just checked on steam, if you have Nvidia graphics you can use something called Rivatuner to fix it, but I have ATI.

I originally played Mass Effect on a 2006 MBP, and had no performance issues. I was kind of surprised how smooth it ran back then.

Bought a trilogy key from mmoga that was fine in my Origin account. Probably the first time I haven't moaned at the boy for his gaming knowledge.

Using a fat Radeon so the Nvidia fix won't work. I might be able to use my onboard graphics, but I'd have to move the smaller monitor back down and play it on that. Don't really have the Real Estate:

I've read some poo about processor timing, but I don't understand it. Apparently before 10 you could manually adjust it, but 10 does it better somehow?

Are you getting a constant stutter, or is it on the menus? because on the 360, I just learned to live with that.

Holy golly is ME a nightmare on 360, give me a mouse and keyboard any day.

The boy explained to me that RivaTuner would work with AMD and so I installed Afterburner which is the latest project that includes RT. It didn't help and you can actually see the stutter on the "press any key to continue" screen and apparently it is at its worst in the "citadel" which will mean far more to you than I.

With RivaTuner and AfterBurner running with an overlay, you can see the FPS drop below 35 at the stutter even though it's set not to. It makes the game completely unplayable as the audio also glitches (subs-on can overcome that issue though).

I have an i7 by the way. Quite dated too. Just built a better system around it.

Onboard graphics didn't change anything - at least, didn't improve the stutter although quality downgraded. Tweaking the processor didn't change anything either.

I think it's a futile endeavour.

I appreciate that but, for me, it looks like the party's over as I have to go back to work next week. That means I will probably have the time to play a computer game only after I retire.

It was fun though and there is a youtube vid that's nearly 4 hours long of every cutscene in ME. I'm thinking to wade through that and consider it done.
Title: Re: What video game(s) are you playing?

The cutscenes are pretty good, but you don't get a feel for being "The Commander" the way you would watching RED ALERT cutscenes.

Hell, I probably spent more time bless'ed around with the off road tank than I did on the storyline missions in the first one.

Honestly, Eden prime was the lousiest of the missions, because it's essentially the tutorial. You can steal the gear off the redshirt for the replay for some starter cash.

Since I bless'ed despised the 360 controls, I used the medical clinic money glitch, which saves a lot of time. The Fallout 3 money glitch was easier, but operates on the same concept.

And of course, you have to check out the "Mass Effect Gamer Poop" vids on youtube, where video editing makes EVERYONE on the Normandy inappropriate.

From Commander Shepard declaring his undying love for steak, his promises of "We'll bang, OK" to such later memes as "BattleTits", you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't check it out.

Mark Meer - who voiced Commander Shepard, regrets that "We'll bang, OK" is not a canon line.

I hate linking to a scab instead of the original content, but...

I restarted Oblivion, but I'm stuck in the character creator. I forgot how liberating the restriction in the fallout games is.

I just want to avoid tiny head syndrome or oversized head syndrome. It's almost impossible to tell in the horrible character creator.

I'm seeing a lot of tips online to finish the first dungeon and use the sewer exit as a re-do, but I don't remember having these problems back on the 360.

Glad to see you've been able to squeeze the marrow on Spellforce 2. Those games that you can stretch out, those are the best.

I'm surprised I missed that series first time round as they have my name written all over them. In truth, playing these first 2 are prep for the 3rd installment that came out in 2017 I believe. That has to be good but I am not even looking at gameplay or screenshots yet as I want to savour the moment (or moments before as it were).

Luckily, my client said that she was a little worried about the amount of COVID that was circulating so why don't I take another couple of weeks to recover. Not really "lucky" to have COVID around I know, but one way or another I would have had to go back later this week as contruction isn't really affected and my arms are stuck with the pain while I can't see a specialist so I should have cracked on regardless.

I'm terrified. I've limited my outings to CVS (Drug store, Chemist) and Grocery outlet (damn' food store)

Recently the CVS got moon suited.

I remember a few years back when a drunk managed to punch out power on one side of the town, and we had to go over to the other side to get so much as soda, I felt like that was society breaking down. Walking through my dead half town wearing a headlamp, and thinking "This isn't fallout fun, this is 'The End' ala Morrison.

I mean in my case it was snappy and crappy. We've dealt with worse since. SDG*E like to threaten safety shutdowns since they were held liable for a fire that killed a bunch of people.

As it, it really makes you doubt institutions, at any level.

Like if they won't enforce decency, where the golly are we, specifically.

I did actually buy a PS2 to be honest. For £30 from a friends and a few games. That was all I could afford back then but TNG loved it anyhow.

I'm actually going to tell you that I was. If for no other reason than to mess with your mind.

Well, finished Spellforce 1, 2 and 3 and that was some ride. I actually found 3 a lot like Dragon Age (with less dragons) and that has to be my favourite game so that was a bit of a bonus.

Anywho. Enough of wasting my time with stupid computer games (been saying that to the kids for most of their lives so I have to maintain it) and now I'll do something productive.

West Ham are playing Fulham today and there's plenty of beer in the fridge. You can't get more productive than that, now can you.

I've surely said this before.  . Minecraft, it really does sustain my relaxing parts of my day, a little game of thrones or disenchantment at bed and I'm good.

My son was a mod for that when it first appeared  :o . cost him about £10 or so to join.
He and my daughter still venture on it

It gets pretty deep with the mods and such.   I'm still learning how to use the wings that you find generally, not moded.  :) looks fun to fly a helicopter or something else, but I enjoy the simplicity of building in survivor.

TNG introduced me to allkeyshop and I get the games for just a few pounds.

And Windows. And Office. And a host of other stuff - all legit.

I'm wary of straight up keyshops, but good on ya if it works.

One thing I've seen is if you buy a steam key offsite, it can get pulled or rescinded.

All the games I've bought Steam has no problem with. Keys are legit and so I supposed they're just orphaned.

So after borrowing my sons Xbox I have been playing Modern Warfare killing time whilst recuperating from operation.
Love the original COD + Black Op's but boy have they moved on.
PC and Xbox play on the same servers and PC players kick ass all the while.
Cannot play the Battle royal as the thumbs not dextrous enough and get my ass kicked all the while. Like Plumber as at least I can move around the outskirts of the game to "Plunder", becoming very quickly decent at this( until i try to shoot someone).
Passes the days until I can back on my feet fully.

PC has more precision by default, controller can never match it. It's partially combatted by "aim assist", which PC players despise.

I can usually jump either way, but Mass Effect felt like poo on 360, and I loved it on PC.

As for the MW, I loved COD 4 and MW2, but I've never even played 3.

I've got black ops for the 360, but I've never played it, maybe I should dust that machine off.

Never really enjoyed the MP component, I'm more of a story player. I remember with MW2 in specific, being annoyed that the multiplayer and single player were separate clients, but you couldn't just buy the one you wanted.

Never realized it was the single player experience that would end up on the chopping block.

Son advised me the same ref PC precision and can see why they win so much, although my daughter during lock down learnt and can waste a lot of people playing MW.
Also still occasionally play MW2/3 and the Black ops for the Zombies (which is still going strong).
Have tried and enjoy 0 A.D and enjoy post the warfare ( crops and farms management ) but Windows 11 has removed for some reason ???
Of course Medieval Total War on steam

I want to, but it just seems so intimidating in this size. I've watched some Twitch streamers playing it and it looks fantastic. I've just never played a Dark Souls-type game before. Also, while "Open worlds" seems like they should be fun,  I get nothing done as I'm constantly distracted by other things.

My son had talked about this game as he said it was right up my street. He did also say not to expect Dark Soul games to be like Skyrim where you can just crash in and do your thing. He said these games are much harder and you have to really earn your progress.

Not sure that whether that puts me off or makes them more appealing.

They brought back the pain.

I read somewhere the reason regenerating health came in vogue is that the red cross got really shitty about health pickups having their symbol on it.

I don't mind outrageous difficulty in games, but I will always resent a timer countdown. I'll take an enemy that regenerates eight times, growing ever faster, over a damn "get to the docks in 90 seconds" quest.

I got the Yak pack on GOG when it went DRM free and went on steep discount, but I haven't played much.

The plot is nice and convoluted, but most of the gameplay is running down sidewalks and punching people. Further, it keeps chastising me for using mouse and keyboard. At least once per session a screen pops up, interrupting gameplay, saying "Real Yakuza use controllers".

I don't actually know where my 360 controller is right now. I don't think I could play yakuza with my SNES controller. (I have a usb adapter for it. Super Smartjoy)

Conquest is currently on 33% discount on steam.

I'd forgotten I bought The Fallen God expansion so I thought I'd play that to loosen up.

It's amazing how you can completely, and I mean COMPLETELY forget how to play a game once you stop.

I've been trimming up my wishlists of games to purchase.

Picking up older PC titles is getting GRIM.

Even on ebay, the two copies of Resident Evil 3 are substandard. One is french, and one is PLAYXPRESS.

Both are $100 USD.

All I want is the US PC copy. I don't want a localization, I don't want a "budgetpack". I've heard the budget version of RE3 straight out cuts the mercenaries mode.

I have RE 1 and 2. They're not exactly "fun" to get running on modern systems, but I'm just one game short.

I'm in the same boat with Scarface. Used copies are rare as hens teeth, and speculation has driven it through the roof.

I'm a little pissed off, to be honest. I didn't do my homework so didn't realise the Conquest of Eo was a turn-based strategy game and nothing like the RTS/RPG format of the other versions. Why the golly did they do that?

I have no problem with the format, but call it something else so there can be no confusion. I really don't have the time or patience to study the mechanics and wade through all the gameplay options just to play HoMM all over again.

Definitely and cash-and-grab version of Spellforce.

To be honest, I can't remember. If memory serves, I think that you actually couldn't go into a dark room without a light source and to justify itself the game said "It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue". But that may be me misremembering, and you may actually have been eaten by a grue if you did go into a dark room without a light source. And "you were eaten by a grue" sounds much better than "You are likely to be eaten by a grue".

Theremust be a browser version of Zork around somewhere that you can download and try, surely!

Judging by my reservations of Conquest of EO, I appear not to want to return to more a basic gameplay format.

My friend bought me Project Zomboid and I bless'ed hate it. I already had read that it is a survival game where non-survival is guaranteed. I had faffed my friend off saying I wasn't really interested in the title and he... just bought it for me?

I think he's looking for a co-pilot, but so far I hate the game. The Tutorial in particular was BRUTALLY meanspirited. The first zombie you encounter is your mother, which you are informed of AFTER you bash her head in with a frying pan. You then use a knife recovered from her corpse to eliminate a survivor, only to be informed that this was your father. Then you loot your father and go to his shed for supplies. The tutorial instructs you to break a window, which naffs up your hand, and you must rush through bandaging it.

After you leave the shed, you find two zombies eating... your sister. So, family elimination. Great, sounds like a fun time for someone other than me.

You are then instructed by the tutorial to consume an antidote. I knew they were going to do a meanspirited hook by this point, but I hit the button. You then scream, which draws every zombie in the area and you die.

Thus, confirming exactly WHY I did not want to play this game. Additionally, it had the same weird swirly mouse controls I didn't like about Yakuza 0. It's not a mouse precision issue, this thing is insanely responsive, and I love it. Blows my old naga out of the water.

I honestly wonder what this weird swoopy feeling is. Maybe I should load up an old favorite and see if I experience it there.

I bit the bullet and started to play Conquest of EO (apparently I've already amassed 70 hours game time) but I really don't like it. I have restarted a conquest 3 times, each time bringing to the game the experience (avoiding the same mistakes) from the last conquest attempt. But no matter what I do I still end up on the losing end.

First play I was at about 30 weeks into the game's timeline and the antagonists got too strong and started to beat me up. The second play, I played really sensibly grabbing as many buffs as I could, but by week nine, Rohan (scallywag mage) took my tower effectively killing me off.

This 3rd play (I'm not going to say "playthrough"), I am at week eight playing as strategically as possible, but the game isn't giving me much help so I only have 2 averagely buffed troops against armies of monsters.

What is this poo, chess or something?

Anywho. Should have beaten it by Christmas.

Bought Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare during the Christmas sale. I'd say it would have been a decent rental title, I beat it in just under 7 hours.

I had previously had horrible vertical tear issues and had put the game aside until I could be bothered to tweak fix.

Turns out I just had to run the game in safe mode once, and the problem vanished.

I really enjoyed the exo frames in this title, and really hated the legacy stuff. (You get knocked out about as often as James Bond, QTE's are inescapable, you have to throw a knife while prone, it's all stuff that's been done.)

Then again, I know COD is mostly purchased like the yearly sports titles for online, and some never even touch the campaign.

I managed to avoid downloading the multiplayer portion, and thank god, even the SP campaign clocks in around 50 GB. I know that's mostly texture information these days, but it still makes me wince.

The Kevin Spacey villain was fantastic, and the cutscenes were visually impressive.

My favorite mission was the villa infiltration, where you can use a grappling hook like scorpion to stealth kill enemies from the bushes. GET OVER HERE! I had so much fun abusing the mechanic, my commanding officer chastised me for killing so many people.

I'd say the ending was satisfying, but the game leaves you wanting more. Several years pass between missions, and it might have been nice to see what happened over those years. I also think it would have been rewarding to have the protagonist go through training, you're kind of dumped directly into the Korean war kicking back off at the outset.
