Title: 7 Thin taskbar?
Post by: 8ullfrog on January 07, 2014, 11:04:49 PM
I'm running windows 7, and the taskbar is looking a little thick to me these days. I don't want to auto-hide it, I'd just like to cut that thing in half.

Is this a modification I can find somewhere in settings? Or do I have to download something? I know windows customization has been back burner-ed by Microsoft with Aero and in 8 metro.

Did you accidentally drag it to double layer?  If the toolbar is unlocked, you can resize it like you would increase the height of any window.  If that's not the case, you can right-click on an empty spot of the toolbar, select "Properties", and on the Taskbar tab, make sure "Use small icons" is checked.

The only other reason I think the toolbar would be distorted in size would be if you're running in a different screen resolution than normal.

More like lack of real estate. Stupid 1366X768. I already did the small icons thing and didn't even realize I had. I remember back on vista I had to use third party software, and that was kind of a drag. I guess I'll just have to roll with auto-hide for now.

To answer your question, it isn't distorted, I'd just like to slim it down further.

Yeah, at 1440 x 900 I auto-hide the taskbar and use small icons for screen real estate. How does the size of your icons and height of the taskbar compare to this?

 install a decent dock.

Small icons = small taskbar and more room for icons on one line.

I used to set small icons then make it a double-height bar.  Plenty of toolbar real estate that way.  I needed it cuz I also add the Address, Desktop, and Quick Launch toolbars to the main toolbar.  Now that I have a larger resolution screen, I no longer need the double-height.

I did use Nexus for a long while, coupled with Dexpot  http://dexpot.de/ (http://dexpot.de/), made the whole multi screen desktop a joy to work with.

What's interesting about that picture it the sash pockets are out and more than likely the weights too.  That probably means that the mac is really supporting the window.

Boring, I know, but it does make the image less 'staged' for me.

I SO love this. Sadly "the kid" is studying architecture and some of MACs software would be perfect for her. Thats what holiday savings is all about.

I bought my daughter a Mac when she was in college. It's old and outdated now and she built a Windows 7 gaming/video processing computer. She sent me this pic and said "I finally found a use for my old Mac".

If I had bought my daughter a <fill in the gap, but pricey object> when she was in college and she sent me a pic of it propping up the window with a caption "I finally found a use for my old <whatever>" then I would have had quite strong words with the young lady.

Or you could have sat on your porch with your blunderbuss.  That'd learn her.
