Title: DayZ
Post by: tarascon on January 12, 2014, 08:32:37 AM
Is anyone playing this mod to Arma? http://dayzmod.com/ (http://dayzmod.com/)
I watched some walkthroughs on YouTube and it looks like it could be wacked fun once it gets beyond the Alpha stage.

Looks good. Tried playing DayZ, couldn't get through boot camp. I suck on a keyboard. Tried using a controller/mouse but that sucked. Can't see well enough either.

In the Borderlands

Sounds like you're talking about Arma (which I never played). In DayZ you're plucked down in the middle of a zombie apocalypse with nothing but your wits to survive on. It's ridiculously (step on a rusty nail, heal with the wrong blood type, and the sociopath bandit players) easy to die and the game glitches don't help.

::) Yeah, I just looked and I have the ARMA 2 free edition.

I think when DayZ works the bugs out I'd be willing to get the Arma package just so I can run DayZ.
The forum here (http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/7-dayz-general-discussion/ (http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/7-dayz-general-discussion/))has some interesting discussions. Check out the stalking behavior thread. It'd be funny if it didn't point to a disturbing trend among some players. I realize that all is fair in a survivor scenario but still...

DayZ is now a standalone product.

As to your disturbing trend indicator, this is the only way the game is being played right now.

There is a joke about Bohemia Interactive (Creators of ARMA) and that is "Bohemia Interactive. Forever in alpha"

ARMA III is apparently just as buggy as ARMA II was.

Day Z (In Development)

Day Z mod for ARMA II:

Arma II Combined Operations:

This is the original "Game" and it's first expansion pack. There is an additional version that includes some DLC, but you NEED combined ops to play the DAY Z mod.

I can't even see the Tangos watching YouTube vids . I doubt if a larger monitor would help (mine's 19'').

^^ I just discovered DayZ about a week ago--dint know it was standalone... missed the Add to Cart bit.
The DayZ site I saw had the game "free" if you have Arma.

Not Arma. ARMA II COMBINED OPERATIONS.

Yes, I know. I was just using shorthand.  ;D
So, have you played Arma and/or DayZ?

My machine can barely run ARMA II. I was playing some of the realistic stuff, but I was playing with actual military dudes. Just like in real life, they made me drive everywhere.

I think I'll make a thread about that as not to hijack this thread.

^ Perhaps you should. Perhaps this thread can use DayZ as an exemplar of the sorts of aberrant behavior one runs into in an MMO.

As a side comment on wierdnesses that can happen in the MMO world let me share that, in Lotro, I had a young man (at least he claimed to be a young man) who'd developed a crush on one of my avatars--an Elven fighter I ran. He harassed me every time that I ran that avatar... making comments about the tightness of my trousers, etc, that eventually I lost my patience and had him blocked. He was incapable or plain old unwilling to hear what I'd told him about game etiquette. The strangest thing is, since all the Elves tend to look the same (like 13 year old girls, lol), what had singled me out for this attention? I suppose I was simply "lucky" to have found myself sooooooo adored. It's a good thing Lotro didn't have a pvp mode.
Weird.

I caved today and bought the DayZ standalone from Steam.
