Scottish Music
« on: May 17, 2009, 11:13:33 AM »
I'm starting this thread as dedication to one of my most favorite things, Scottish Music, especially the folk music. I'll really appreciate if any of you guys would contribute to it.

Flower of Scotland - The Corries - 1975  :)

Tricia Corrigan - Suantra? - Abair Amhr?n ( Not Scottish Gaelic but Irish Gaelic)

I've heard enough Gaelic to know that she isnt pronouncing it correctly,  ;), (its more English sounding than Irish Gaelic)

There are many versions of these songs but I've found that "The Corries" version is always way better

..naw rough is good Although I liike mellow also. Either way it's hard to find people that have the get the sould of the music right. I tend to lean towards more of a tradional sound so I don't mind bands like the Chieftains (although they're Irish). It's hard for me to find the right mix of any band I'm in love with, so I'll listen to any you guys post. Most of the ones posted I have some songs by already.

Yup, their from Dunfermline, so where The Skids and Big Country.

No Mean City, that's Glasgow. AC/DC's founder members where born in Glasgow Malcolm and Angus Young, Bon Scott was also born in Scotland at Kirriemuir.

Both of these are in memory of Stuart Adamson, founder member of both bands.  :'(

The Skids - Into The Valley

Big Country - Look Away

I found this and it it is the only time I have felt ashamed of who I am. We were the ones doing all the killing (the red coats done their far share to), but this was father against son, brother against brother, Scot against Scot. Culloden

But then again it was revenge for what the "highland host"(those who are interested can look it up) did. There were gallows in the town square (in the main village where I live) and many a man danced a jig on that, they murdered, raped and pillaged and stole ever thing even the shoes off their feet.(this was highlanders not the red coats)

The Edinburgh Military Tattoo, my brother was in one of the Tattoo's after the first Gulf War.

Where they are playing is the approach to the castle. At the other end which you don't see, there are house's, you can see cannon ball's still embedded in the walls from bygone battles and sieges.

I love the way the big bass drum is hit with soft sticks, you can hardly hear it.

A contrast to that is when a Scottish Regiment goes to or comes home from war. There is a lot less coming home, than went away.  :'(

The Black Watch coming Home.
