It said on the news that Disney have bought Marvel Entertainment, giving them access to Marvels characters. Expect a Spider-Man meets Mickey Mouse comic on the shelves soon.

The folks at Marvel are already doing a bang-up job at that.

But seriously, I believe this is a move to try and secure the existence of Marvel's comic books when the comic book direct sales market implodes as small businesses are closing their doors at record pace during this 'financial crisis'

DC's got Time-Warner behind it so they're already set, Marvel was just a bunch of investors/shareholders who are probably looking to unload the property.

As I am currently reading exactly 1 Marvel title, Jonathan Hickman's new stint on Fantastic Four, I can't say I'm overly alarmed at what might happen to the 'quality'.

I'm actually wondering what Disney get out of it in the short term. Most of the Marvel characters movie rights are already bought by their rivals, so I wouldn't expect to see a Disney movie featuring any of the major characters for some time.

On the other hand, Marvel merchandise has always been pretty shitty next to DC's, so maybe an upturn in quality is on the cards if Disney's going to sell it from their stores.

Disney already markets to girls (and creepy old men) with Hannah Montana and such so the marvel characters will cater to young boys (and creepy old men)

Like I said, DC is already owned by Time-Warner who has no intention of giving up a lucrative property.

Hell, the Batman franchise alone is worth keeping the company...

I've never seen Stan & Mickey in the same place at the same time, so I've always assumed they were the same guy.
