.

Every once in a while my daughter asks me to tell her (again) how when I was little I only had 3 channels in my city (2 locals, 1 national) and I only had 2 hours/day of kids' shows: 1 hour of cartoons and the other hour was maybe Zorro, Batman, El Chavo but not much else. No wonder I played a lot of sports back then.

We only got our 4th channel in 1982 and even Channel 5 that arrived in 1997, didn't work for thje majority of the country at first.  We used to get told of the TV utopia that was the U.S.A that had this magical thing called 'Cable TV', but quite honestly, I thought it was a myth or a wind up.

Oh, and TV used to close down at 12.30am on weekdays (perhaps 2am at weekends).

I forgot about that! Here it closed down at 12:00 and it was extended on Saturdays only if the movie or the boxing match was long.
I don't remember exactly when cable landed in my city but I was already in college.

On Saturday nights BBC2 used to run a double bill of old horror movies that used to take you up to about 2am. Ironically, they are the best memories I have of watching any movie and initiated my love of old horror film and most 'old' films in general. Had they been more accessible, I wouldn't have paid them much attention at all.

I have two clear memories of Sunday afternoons in winter when I was a child. One of them is my sister and I watching horror movies (I used to terrify her and she retaliated pulling my hair and biting me). The other one is football matches on the radio in the background.

I have a similar memory but it was early Saturday morning and it was Kung Fu Theatre. :D

The missus is poorly for the 4th day straight so no doubt I'll be nursemaiding for a few hours yet.

She's flued up unfortunately.

So you're only 40 miles or so up the road from London eh? I was at my Mum's today in Barnet and I could have got to Oxford in about half an hour.  Mind you, the amount my Mum fed me I doubt any form of transport would have welcomed me.

Yeah, I like Oxford.

Tonight I am planning on doing very little as I don't think I have had a quiet night since Christmas.  Next birthday in the house isn't until August, so I can finally forget about spending money and celebrating.
