Similar TV series (Trigun, Dragon Half)
« on: October 26, 2009, 11:23:07 AM »
Are there any similar series to Trigun or Dragon Half? Thinking of watching Cowboy Bebop or Fullmetal Alchemist next >_>.

Thanks in advance.

I've not watched a lot of anime, but I do think Cowboy Bebop is definitely worth the watch.  I liked it more than Trigun.

Now Zoidberg is the popular one!

Haven't watched anime much either.

Dominion: Tank Police
New Dominion: Tank Police
Guyver
Cyber City Oedo 808
Devilman
Devil Lady (aka Devilman Lady)
Berserk (watched a few episodes)
Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis
Ghost in the Shell
Akira

Probably some others, I can't remember. There was one, it was like Berserk, but set in the future, the main character was insane, acted like he wanted to be killed. At the end of the episode I watched, the main character was impaled on a spear.

Any of you heard of Devil Man or 8 Man?

Used to watch Devilman, haven't heard of 8 Man.

I've not watched a lot of anime, but I do think Cowboy Bebop is definitely worth the watch.  I liked it more than Trigun.

Will see if I can find some rips; OVA or dub?

I personally don't think dubbing really matters, you still get the same story.  I watch it in Japanese with subtitles because I like listening to Japanese.

Now Zoidberg is the popular one!

Not much for anime but I do know I prefer subtitles to dubbing.

See, I feel the exact opposite.  I know I need to read the subtitles but after a while, it's just second nature and fluid.  For dubbing, the constant out-of-sync mouth movement and speech continually take me out of the feeling of the story.  Even with cartoons, the syncing of the original voices and the mouths are pretty decent so that dubbing still has the same effect.

I can't do dubbing. It totally bugs me.

Someone somewhere could bring up a decent example of a time it's been done well... But, in general it just ruins a movie for me. The same thing happens for me where the subs become fluid and I don't even notice I'm reading them. The only time it's ever and issue is if something is super plot heavy, and everyone is talking really fast. Then sometimes you just need to hit pause, and catch up.

Downloaded some Cowboy Bebop, pm for links ;) (RMVB format / RS).

*Edit: Found: Berserk, same format and host, took a while.

Depends on the anime for me, couldn't watch Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence with subs and OVA, but found Trigun with subs and OVA pretty good.

manga DOES kick ass

Well, not all of it, naturally, but the Akira and Berserk anime barely scratch the surface of these stories which is why I said that. ;D :P

I can't even get into what's missing from Berserk or we'd be here for awhile but suffice to say Guts' time with the Band of the Hawk is a very small potion of the whole story, and the Akira film ends roughly 1/3 of the total story and Akira is actually an important character and not just in pieces in jars. Basically the story begins anew with the flooding of Neo-Tokyo. I've loaned Akira to people who've skipped school and called in sick to work just to finish reading it.

I poo thee not.

I'm more of a comic person, so I tend to like the manga, so don't listen to me... :P

Has anyone seen/read Gantz?

I haven't seen the anime yet, but the manga is amazing...

^ Fullmetal Alchemist is the same way. Lots of anime get shortened, change, or follow only a portion of the mangas.

or Fullmetal Alchemist next >_>.

Thanks in advance.

Back in the 80s I read the Akira series. The anime was so much a small part of what went on.
Lone Wolf and Cub was a good one too.

Watched Berserk and just watching episode 26 of Cowboy Bebop, what should I watch next?

Episode 26 of Cowboy Bebop, there is a PSX in the background around nine minutes in to it. Its similar in shape and has the logos in the right place, along with the reset, on/off and open buttons, thou the controller port is in the wrong place.
