Almost Lost My Computer...
« on: December 20, 2009, 09:26:41 PM »
As the result of removing a trojan, my system completely shut down last night and I tried all day today to make a system restore work.

Finally at about 8:00, I was able to restore the thing to last Thursday!

Merry Christmas to me!

 :D

Atleast the os on a mac is more stable than the os on an IBM compatable.

Knew a guy one time that was talking about how his pc kept crashing, another told him his didnt crash at all.
First guy asked him how he did that, second guy said he bought a Mac. lol

Spoiler (hover to show)

this is what happens when you get hit up the ass in a car accident.
his insurance firm insisted he claimed for whiplash ( which he never had) from the other company.
?1500 later and a lot of grief from his wife about what he was to spend the money on , he takes the plunge.

When I had an accident,, the guy hit me from behind. I had whiplash, and my car was concidered totaled.
When the insurance company investigated, they tried to meke it look like I intended to be hit, even after the police asertained that the guy that hit me was in the wrong.
The insurance comapny then dragged thier feet, and offered me 1100 dollars for my car since they found a wrecked one like it in a junk yard.
I fought it for nearly two years,, I finaly got an out of court settlement for 10 thousand.
Next thing I know, MY insurance company raised my rates by 25% a month.
Turns out the guy who hit me was insured by a sister company to mine.

the insurance company insisted he claim , he wasn't that bothered.

its a big thing in the UK , where's there's blame there's a claim.

a hint of sarcasm I think. They are all crooks and make the rules up as they go along.

You know, this whole Obama Health Care bs that he is saying is for our own good is only going to help the insurance companies.
Insurance companies have a license to pretty much print money as it is.
It wouldnt hurt my feelings if they all went tits up and died.

I have done no research either way, I'm just going to wait for the Michael Moore documentary :D

My laptop nearly died earlier this month, he was still in warranty though and the man said it would have cost me about ?400 if I didn't have warranty.  They replaced the motherboard, USB thingies, DVD drive, the monitor cable and it's inverter.  Turns out they don't actually test any of the components, they just replaced everything I said was broken.

It would be nice if it DID work. Here I mean.
Obama wants to charge us,, then us get private insurance too.
We pay too much in taxes as it is ( 15% of my paycheck is taxes).
Yeah, not as much as you guys in the UK,, BUT,, our prices are alot higher too. This is just going to make it harder for millions of people who cant afford to live on what they are taking home as it is.
My mother who is disabled ( she has alot of things wrong I wont go into) cant even get on his health care thingie, and her insurance she has is being changed around so that she has to get supplemental insuronce she cant afford).
The only people that can afford this mess, are those making 40k or more a year.
Alot of people outside larger cities dont make that much, contrary to popular opinion.
The median income here in this part of the country ( the average person) is about 20k or less a year.Mostly less to tell the truth.
Id like to know where the news gets its information about income at.

i think my pc is poorly  :'(

today it just wouldn't start  :-\
all was ok until it got to the xp loading screen ( you know with the bar that moves across )
then it closed down and restarted.
after about 30 mins i tried every option going but all with the same result.

all of a sudden a chk disc screen appeared and now all ok.
well this morning is going to be back up everything i can find (just in case)

i've a inkling that it may be my graphic card because when the pc first starts up all of the bios is in the center of the screen  ???  it is a pretty old card but i cannot think of anything else.

bugger

I guess I'm in the minority.I'm very happy with my Windows Vista PC. It doesn't matter how many graphics and things I've got open and working on it has never yet showed any strain...if I'm not heard from here or elsewhere for a while you will know I should have knocked on wood or some other superstition before I said that. :D

the joys of Microsoft M.E.

really , i don't have too many problems but there isn't  alot of alternatives out there.

apple - expensive to start off .a whole new way of working
Microsoft - hackable / virus's / popular ( its all you get on a purchased pc)
linux - you have to work at it.

that's all i know

This computer is a dream. I know what you are saying about bugs and a good kick helping. Every machine I've had before seemed to be a series of one problem after another. But Firefox has been the only thing to give me any problems with this one. Vista does require some resources, but then it outperforms anything else I've used in the past by a long ways. So well, in fact, I still haven't installed the new Windows 7 I have. :)

supposedly windows 7 is less demanding than vista, so you might see some performance gains there.

Still, upgrading windows is a dangerous game. Sometimes it works fine, other times it deletes everything. Enough that most computer professionals will tell you to run a clean install.

I did manage an upgrade from XP to vista, but your mileage may vary.

One thing I learned in computer repair - never swear at or hit a Macintosh computer. It will remember, and it WILL get you back.

Yeah, I have a sweetly created Windows 7, but am just too complacent with my Vista to bother. The promise of less demands on resources is neither here nor there to me as I don't have any problems with it now. I got lots left no matter how much I'm running at once. I do admit being enticed by the goodies included in the one I will be installing.
