The "I Dare You to Stay On Topic" Game
« on: February 06, 2009, 06:35:04 PM »
How long can you stay on topic?

Rules are as follows

1.  Your whole post must address the topic at hand.
Any side comments, tangents or non-sequiters within the post will
     result in a derailing.

2.  Posts may address the topic itself or be a comment on
something another poster has shared as long as said
     comment remains on topic.

2.  Emotions and web expressions like :D or LOL are
allowed, but not if they are the only thing posted.

3.  If you see something off topic, quote the infringer
and add his or her name to the scoreboard with a
     negative point.

4.  After the infringer has been brought to justice, post
     your own topic for discussion.

5.  If the off-topicness has been going on for two posts
or more, only quote the original derailer.  He or she is
the one responsible after all  ;D

The first topic for discussion is

Rude things you've seen people do

Just today I went to the grocery store and was
about to pull into a parking space when someone
swooped in and stole my spot.
Size, it doesn't matter to me so long as I get it...Gotta go now.

I have sympathy for the people who didn't notice the 10 items or less sign, but those jerks that KNOW, I have no sympathy for.
I've actually been the richard who says, "This is the express lane."  I guess that makes me rude  :-\

I always put the seat down, and the lid of the seat if it's there.
I read somewhere that when a toilet gets flushed that the
particulate matter in the toilet streams up into the air at
a distance that's frightening.

If there is a lid, it makes me happy to put it down
because whether it's man or woman, they both have to lift it up  :)

But did your last comment fall under Rule #2, or did you go off topic?

Or am I being too nit-picky?

(Are we still in the supermarket rude topic?)

Something rude people do:

When I'm talking on the phone, people come up and start talking to me.  And when I'm talking to the caller, they butt in on the conversation with comments, "Oh yeah, blah blah blah blah."

Indeed is rude, but sometimes necessary, like when they forget something to buy.

I'm gravitating more and more away from the TV since I can download a lot of shows and I can do other things while I'm watching them.

I spend far more time on the internet than I do watching television.
Currently the only shows I watch are 30 Rock and The Office, so that makes
less than an hour compared to the countless hours I waste on the internet.

Currently I don't even own a television, but watch those shows on a computer monitor  ;D

I actually watch TV on the internet using a little player.  If I ever watch TV it is always something I have downloaded off the internet so they are kind of inseparable for me, but as for actual broadcast TV; I only really watch the News at 10.

I spend way to much time in the internet, unless you count playing videogames as watching TV. I download the TV episodes from the series that I want to see, cause in my country the CW for example is not broadcasted. And anything else I watch on youtube.

The internet is where I spend much more time. There just isn't much on TV that isn't available online. Even local news can be found there, but for some reason I still tend to watch it on TV.

To clarify for cheapy, I only watch a few shows on TV, but I have to leave the computer to do it, so that should be the criteria for telling the difference. If you watch TV shows on your computer that still involves the Internets.

So having said that, I spend a lot more time online than in front of the set anymore. No commercials, too.  ;)

KA tiptoes in....takes a deep breath...checks the subject at hand, again...I spent most of yesterday in the chatroom, but the tv was on with no volume in the background. As my attention was focused on playing in the chatroom, and not whatcing tv, the internet still wins out for me. Although I did go offline to watch Leverage last night.

Next topic:  Vandalizing public bathrooms, WTF?

Next to the successful utilization of electricity, I think that the public
bathroom/loo/water closet/restroom/latrine/whatever you call it is one of the greatest inventions
of our times.  What I don't understand is why people insist on vandalizing
them so often.  Not just graffiti (which doesn't cause much harm), but
more so the clogging up toilets and sinks with paper towels, making fecal messes of
toilet seats, peeing on the floor and other disgusting behaviors.

I don't understand why anyone would want to ruin a place that should
be treated as more sacred than any holy site being that everyone needs
to worship there at some point, and I assume that everyone would prefer
that worship to be clean  :-\

Your thoughts as to why or simply rant about it.

Well, I work at a concert/sports arena and I can tell you there are some serious shenanigans going on in those bathrooms.

But the worst?

Cheerleaders.

Our maintenance guy has pulled all sorts of things out of the toilets after those girls swing through here. The maxi-pad dam is pretty routine, but there was a time when he pulled a pom-pom out of one and a full pair of jeans out of another.

I can understand the maxi-pads to a point, but pom-poms and jeans?

When I used to get high I actually looked forward to going into vandalized bathrooms and reading literally every post I could. The limericks were the best. Plus my favorite club had alot of artsy nouveau people, so it was fun. Where men bring their reading material into the stall we woman have it supplied for us.  ;D

Far as I'm concerned they would have to construct something better that tissue paper seat protector. It seems the only thing it is designed for is to fall down into the toilet bowl before seat meets seat. Oh! And the doors that never lock so you have to brace your feet against the door to keep the door shut. In order to prevent another person possibly attempting to enter the stall not knowing it's occupied.

Since there isn't currently a topic I'll start one:

High expectations of teachers in hard classes.

I have to learn the entire Geological Time Scale for a quiz on thursday. Also, I have to know the major events that occurred in each period... This is for a Biology class.

2 days. He gave us a chart earlier today, we filled it in, and at the end of class he told us there would be a quiz on the chart on thursday.

This class is reputedly one of the hardest offered at my school. People who get As their entire life take this class and get a B.

Damn that's tough.  Even if a person had prior exposure to those periods in other classes,
remembering them all with details in 2 days sounds pretty overwhelming.

I think that certain teachers like to be hard asses because they believe that being
that way will help students learn better.  I'm not saying there isn't any truth to this
ideology, but some teachers take it too far.

Yes, but this class has an insane amount of information that has to be learned in 16 weeks.

Its called "Plant and Animal Biology," which is a very broad range of topics, and a lot of information.

The teacher is actually really cool, and pretty funny. Its the class that is hard, not the teacher.

You assume correctly.

The pre-req is General Biology, which wasn't nearly as hard as this class is.
And on top of this class, im taking Calculus II, and a 2nd semester General Chemistry course. 14 units in 3 classes. 3 hard classes....

At the moment I should be going to sleep. But as you can see, I am playing here, at Dias, while doing some research for an upcoming meeting, and 'window shopping' at New Egg.

There are times I'll shut the phone off and try to sleep. If successful I avoid everything but my dreams....until I wake.

Devising methods to avoid something inevitable is unusual for me.

How long can you stay on topic?

No!!!

Just today I went to the grocery store and was
about to pull into a parking space when someone
swooped in and stole my spot.

I dislike going around supermarkets, moving out of the way of Sunday trolley drivers, some believe they have the right to block your way, with their trolley.

Some remind me of Zombies, just aimlessly walking around.

Something rude people do (often) in the supermarket is to scratch their balls.

But what if someone doesn't have balls, do they scratch their friends balls, or scratch the balls of a complete stranger?
