Google Feedback.
« on: February 16, 2013, 10:57:16 PM »
For whatever reason, Google wanted my feedback. This was AFTER they made me watch an unskippable ad for miracle whip, and then demanded my real name.

*Note: Real name can not be set to golly YOU.

They require you to highlight an area of the video to give feedback on, so I circled will.i.am's head and said that he sucks, and that their real name policy sucks. I used less diplomatic words.

Nevermind all the buffering nonsense.

Noted.

Google has not become that abrasive with me, but the advertisements are annoying.  I have noticed it out of youtube though.
Diplomacy is a great idea, it's a shame I can't remember the way I originally say things, but it always come out best the first time.  Not to implement that you cannot remember your words.  I read it.

I think it's because at one time I had a few videos up, silly poo, but google considers me a director. There is an option to say you use two names, I'm going to have to check my gmail now to see if they appended my name to the account.

Prior to today, my google real name was "- -".

I understand google wants transparency so that you will be more valuable to their advertisers. I don't care.

You probably could have put anything that was valid alphabet characters and didn't contain the word "golly".  It's probably just a simple filter it checks through.

I have not encountered this phenomenon.  Could it be thanks to AdBlockPlus?  The linky sends me to the standard back o head shot I've come to know over the years.

I use pretty much my own name in my Google account as I need some of the services in real life.  I use a completely different name for my YouTube and Gmail account but have them linked back to Google. They don't seem bothered that I have aliases.

The name of my YouTube account is Spanish for "Iwon'tsignupforanaccount". Meh, sounds funnier in Spanish.

I don't use my real name on anything online.  My dad tried to tag me as his son on Facebook but I had to refuse cuz he uses his full name on it.

FB is the only place, but even there I have an alt.

The internet is glorious for its ability to afford one shape shifting alternative identities.

I use my real name on my school email ( no choice there) but my real name is ridiculously long, so I opened gmail account with shortened name, so when I have to give out my email address, peoples eyes can stop crossing over . It's just easier for people when I email them about jobs and other like non personal stuff, they know who I am right away…

I'm getting an ad on every video now. I am running ad-block plus.

It's not the text overlay ads either, it's full 30 second video ads.

I used to listen to a ukf playlist back to back, never had any problems with ads. Now I get one for every video.

Oh. I don't use YouTube that much , maybe that's why I can skip after five seconds of an ad.

It was only recently that I realised all the pages I view from Google searches, show as viewed on all my devices.  That's kind of neat if not a little spooky.

YouTube always allows me to skip after 5 seconds.  So far.

The cookie is now in their hands. In the old days you could nuke cookies by tracking them down and deleting them locally. Google for one, has realized that, and keep a copy of your google cookie on their server. This means lowered levels of privacy, as you can't just nuke it. They've made a copy.

You could try not logging in, but once you've logged in on a machine, google WILL recognize it.

AdBlock Plus isn't enough.  I installed an additional add-on for this purpose and never see youtube ads now.  I don't know if you are on a Mac, I assume not.  Here's a link to one for PC

I don't particularly mind, in fact, some things I have viewed on Screwfix and forgot to order, then show up in Ebay advertising banners etc and it obviously jolts my memory.

That's useful in my case.
