Roku won't connect to the Internet wirelessly
« on: June 10, 2013, 07:01:59 PM »
I got the roku and I've just now decided to check it out to see if it works. And the darn thing won't connect to the Internet and from some of the troubleshooting forums they say I should changed encrypt mode from mixed to just  802.11b but then I read some where else that it should connect  because its in mixed. Whatever that means.... So will  I break something if I change it from mixed ? Also I use wpa for password protection.

So its safe to assume that youve entered your router key/password in so the roku can have access to the router?

Yup. Did it several times even typed it in manual. It still won't connect. Just want to be clear by router key do you mean the name of my network? Then yes.. If you mean something else please enlighten me.

Name of your network is completely different from your key/password. If you have a windows 7 OS I can tell you a really easy way to find it if youve forgotten it.

1.    Click the wireless network icon on the taskbar (lower-right corner).
2.    Right-click your wireless network name, and then select Properties.
3.    Select Show characters to see the wireless network password.

I know the password to the network. Even logged in through the default ip add when hooked up to dsl box to double check. It was the same.

The reason I asked is sometimes it's easier to set up a wireless connection if you're wired.

Found a forum that should be able to help. I would think sharing the manufacturer of the router would help narrow down the issue when I look through the site.
