Suspect Asus?
« on: December 17, 2014, 10:38:32 AM »
I can't remember if I mentioned this at the time, but in August I bought my son an Asus computer for his school work.

In no time at all it had developed this strange fault whereby lines emanated from on screen windows and icons etc. I had considered that it was most likely a driver or OS issue. We updated both but the problem remained so I told my son to install Linux and see if it persisted - he did and it did.

I haven't seen this fault before and I can't seem to find anyone else who has. Anyone here seen this?

I am trying to get Asus to sort it out as it is obviously under warranty, but communication is not great.

looks like a faulty unit to me.
well you could complain on their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ASUS I had success with my Utility provider with this sort of complaint.
Or try
Mr Benjamin Yeh   Managing Director  [email protected]
Lay it on complying your son is missing out on his education etc etc. Previous items purchased were fantastic etc etc  ;)

If from a shop go in at the busiest hour and have a rather loud complaint to the staff again quoting son missing out on education etc etc. Previous purchases from "shop" always been dealt with quickly etc etc.

if purchased online quote "Consumer Contracts Regulations" http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-contracts-regulations  quick guide.

Or get in contact with "credit card" and complain to them. normally insured with credit company ??

keep us informed

I have to admit I was surprised that i couldn't find another instance of this fault anywhere on the net. Perhaps my search terms were off or too generic.

Asus have told me to get to a service center and they'll address the problem, but I think it may better to get Xmas out of the way as parcel deliveries are hot and miss at the mo'.

I am keen to find out what this fault is for nothing else but posterity.  I wonder if I ever will.

RMA that poo ASAP fool!

on the iMac, I managed to get that madam in the day before warranty expired.

Granted, I had bright lines on that display, but it seems a very similar fate.

As it was, the Apple store were shitty assholes every step of the way, and now the iMac suffers the mummy's curse, in that every bless'ed part in the machine passes inspection, yet the goddamn thing does not boot.

Do not put anything off, this merely makes decisions come down against your favor.

Get that poo out now yo.

Is that an All-in-One unit?  It looks like either out-of-date/corrupted drivers or more likely a defective screen (I concur with christ).

It looks like a crap screen. And it may be that it doesn't crop up elsewhere on the web is because other people that buy crap screens don't consider it to be a fault? They all prolly think that is what Windows is sposed to look like.

It's a Asus Notebook X552EP and I bought it here:

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Asus_X552EP_Quad_Core_8GB_1TB_Windows_8_Laptop_in_Black__X552EP-SX023H/version.asp

As it was a gift for my son's 12th birthday I had to refrain from buying him something in christ's budget - maybe i'll do that for his 15th.  It seemed a pretty good all-round machine for the money, and suited him down to the ground.  It is the first Asus I have bought (although I have had to fix few) so I am only moderately familiar with them. I'm hoping this is a blip.

Maybe I should have left it to Santa.

They have been prompt in agreeing to take it back and fix it, but that doesn't detract from the machine breaking within 5 minutes in the first place.

My Samsung on the other hand is magnificent.  Perhaps I should have stayed/bought within the manufacturer that I trust.  Like christ does.

laptop was only 10 month's old. it then broke with same problem 6 months later, no joy on another repair

I'm not going to have it collected until the new year as I just don't have enough time to entertain them at the moment.

Hopefully, the process won't be too painful.

They picked this up on the 6th of Jan and then I heard nada for ages.  Then, all of a sudden, I get an email telling me the part has been delayed and it won't arrive until the 27th Jan. Then I get another email telling me they're picking it up the next day (say wha'?) and then a little later an apology saying the previous email was sent in error (you don't say..). Then I get another email shortly afterwards telling me they cannot give me any updates on the state of the repair, which is odd considering the first mail sent?

Then shortly afterwards, and for every day since, I have had a duplicate of the email telling me the part is arriving on the 27th.

What is even more confusing is that LetMeRepair UK picked the comp' up, but it has been Asus that has been corresponding - albeit confusing correspondence.  I really have no idea who has the laptop and when I am getting it back.

When you sent it to Nigeria, did you enclose your bank details?

It was worse: it was Scotland!

Got another email now saying the part they need won't arrive until the 2nd of Feb, then a few minutes ago I had parcel force here to pick it up?

It isn't really going that well for Asus.  I am now convinced that they are a company that should be steered clear of (sod the preposition).

Firstly their hardware failed almost immediately, then they can't seem to get the parts to have it repaired or even have their system keep track of it.

The word "farcical" comes to mind.

Now no emails, no computer, no nada.

Lucky my son has a back up as his old laptop should have been his mother's by now. Justifies him dragging his feet getting it ready for her.

I vaguely remember something about 10 working days when organising pick-up, but that deadline past a fortnight ago.

The worst case scenario email said the part would be there tomorrow, so I'm hoping that's somewhere near being correct.

I wouldn't put money on it, though.

Got the computer back today which is well over a month from when it was despatched.

The screen error has been fixed (new screen was needed) and they did some other bits and bobs that I wasn't aware were faulty. I'm not complaining about the extra work, but considering the unit is almost new you'd have thought the components would last more than a few months.

The big issue is that they wiped the HDD.

Why did they do that?

I don't believe it's new as it still has the same partition - it's just wiped.

I shouldn't grumble too much as it's working well, but I think I'll ask for an extension on the warranty considering how long they had it.

I think I'll let it slide unless it breaks in the month following the warranty expiry.

I bet I just tempted fate.
